Any word on Hughes and/or Moyes for the Geordies Nicko?

It appears he's the favourite for the job with the Newcastle papers! :(

Um, the more I think about it the more I am worried. Moyes and Redknapp have quality sides so will not want to leave unless they are absolutely crazy.

Hopefully Hughes feels the same way about Rovers (I am sure how much money he has available is a big question) and also isn't fond of having a very unstable board and fanbase behind him.

I would say Jol is the most likely appointment as he is free. Hughes has to be next after that. Again not many candidates around.

Ont he bad side of things Newcastle do have, from Hughes' point of view:

a) a much larger profile

B) a much bigger fanbase

c) much more money

With us out of all the cups, our impetous challenge to the CL in tatters and without much money it could be too much of a draw.

Come on Nicko, what about the scoop for the NEast press about HUGHES

You really should read the Mirror. ;)

That paper had the right name at 6pm last night...and the first editions of the Sun and Mail had Shearer first time and then had to change.

I think they have already been scooped.

It's Redknapp's job...if he wants it. I believe he does.

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has also been linked with the job but has insisted it was pure speculation.

"There's nothing in my being linked with the job. I am happy on the south coast," he told the News in Portsmouth.

"I have not spoken to anyone from Newcastle. I really do not know anything about this."

When reporters interview managers about potentially moving to manage Newcastle, they should start it with;

"Are you stupid enough to...."

If i was going to improve the amount of money i'm currently earning plus add some extras in that arent currently available and know that what ever the length of the contract i aint going to see it out, but i'm still going to receive the full amount of that contract, then yes, I'm with stupid.

I'm not that worried about Hughes going. After all, he distanced himself from the (better IMO) Tottenham job when he was named as a possible candidate and made a big thing about how he's not finished at Ewood yet. Although that could be because he thought he wouldn't get offered to him anyway. I know footballers and managers are a fickle bunch (Bellamy) but I can't see Hughes being stupid enough to take it after what Sam went through.

The Toon fans want instant success, they want a Man City style revival and push out anyone who doesn't give it to them within their first season. I'm glad Shearer said no, they would ruin his legendary status.

Finally, the fact he's been sacked so suddenly makes me think Newcastle already have someone lined up and let's hope that's true and that it's not Sparky.

P.S. It would go also against Hughes' notion of managing clubs he's played for.

On Harry Redknapp...

Do you expect him to say 'Yes, I have been tapped by Portsmouth, there is a lot of money there for me and for new players. I've taken this Portsmouth mob as far as I can and I'm getting out pronto.'

Never believe a word some people [managers] say. A week ago I broke the story that Everton were taking Fernandes back. Sky asked David Moyes about and it he said 'news to me.'

Would that be Fernandes I see having a medical at Everton right now?

Rover til I die hit the nail on the head in his post when talking about Shearer.... anyone that goes there gets their reputation ruined!

Fat Sam was talked about being the next England boss when he was at Bolton...

Cant see why Harry would go to Newcastle - he is building well at Pompey and the Geordies want instant success! I think they would be best going for Mourinho and saying from the start that he has 2 years to hit the top 6.

Any news on Rovers Nicko? Hope we are not after Koumas!!

Here's why he won't go Niko. From the Portsmouth Evening News (Our Local Paper).

A massive barrier in any potential switch to St James' Park would be Redknapp's reluctance to leave his Sandbanks home.

He has been settled in Dorset for decades and turned down the opportunity to work at Leicester in the past because of the distance involved.

That factor was today backed up by Redknapp's brother-in-law Frank Lampard Snr.

He said: 'I don't know if he would leave the south coast, to be fair. He's settled down there. He likes taking his dogs for a walk along the coast. But only time will tell, I suppose.'

Money talks. And, by the way, there are fortunes going on him at the bookies...

Sad to say, I've not had a penny on it myself.

But I should stress he has domestic issues. However two or three years at £3 or £4 million-a-year may just cover the housekeeping.

Betfair looks similar to when he went back to Pompey

I remember reading a while ago when he retires he wants to buy AFC Bournemouth, if true then another big move with signing-on fee and big wages would help him.
