Now would be the best time MH could ever leave us...

Why??!!

He will leave us at some point in the next 2-3 years...

Right now there is the best replacement we will EVER get.... Sam Allardyce.

People may jump on me for saying that, but it is absolutely stone cold fact.

Are you on glue? The best replacement we will EVER get............ come on....you are taking the p#ss aren't you?

What do you base that on - keeping BWFC in the prem? Spending a lump of geordie cash on new players and then blaming them for not being good enough to turn results around?

Thats a great CV eh?

I don't want Hughes to leave but money talks and he may be ready to move on. What concerns me more is the fallout vis-s-vis the club if he did- Coaching staff, our better players, usually some of them get poached by the ex-manager.

On the plus side if he did go now a new manager would have the rest of the season to get their feet under the table without massive expectations, and barring an absolute disaster we'll still end up in mid-table.

I would be happy with Martin Jol, not happy with Sam Alardarse !

Dark horses, Ian Dowie, Paul Ince.

Caretaker, get Tony Parkes back from Blackpool !

The Fulham bid for King is mad. If they want to splash 4m they can have Roberts (not that I want him to leave by the way but we all know he is on his way out)

Do you think there is no way we can convince Roberts to stay? I mean as a utility striker he is great.

The Brazillian kid if Fulham signed him would go on loan to Germinal Berschoot (sp) in Belgium for three years so he could gain Belgian nationallity then come over here in the UK and play as hed have EU nationallity.

Fulham currently have three Ghanians all midfielders I think out on loan at Germinal already, they are only 17 but you never know they could be brilliant.

Roberts is a better player than King, so our £4m asking price is justified in my opinion. Dont know where he will end up, but hope we get a good deal for him.

As aforementioned i think Rovers will take care of business towards the end of January. Hughes has stated previously that he lets the big boys make their signings and then we press ahead with our targets.

I am totally discombobulated with regards to which new players will be wearing the famous blue and white halves come February 1st.

Quite a few bookies have stopped taking bets and with those who still are Redknapp is odds on and Hughes has drifted back out to 5/1.

However BBC headline is pompey insisting they want to keep "valued manager" Harry Redknapp. Sounds like they are trying to convince someone!

I followed the betting on this pretty much all day whilst at work (nowt better to do all day!). Got a little worried in the morning when Hughes dropped straight from 6/1 to 11/4, then 5/2, but then he hovered around this level most of the day. It got suspended about 7pm

Interesting. Seems most of the papers are going with Redknapp getting £20m in transfer funds instantly and the cost of sacking BFS and get Harry would be around £9m.

Also reporting that Harry will only go for it if Ashley agrees to fund him flying home, not sure how often that would be. Just buy him a private jet Mike.

I must say i am feeling alot happier about this now. Just hoping to wake up to 'Harry says yes to toon job' and that'll finish it off nicely.

Sorry. Can't agree with that...Portsmouth aren't a more attractive proposition than Newcastle at all.

Newcastle are a far bigger club with a large ground that would be filled with fans. There always remains the potential there which could attract many a manager who believes they could be the one to finally get the club winning a trophy again.

If Redknapp goes to Newcastle then I think we can rest easy.

The Guardian are bigging up Hughes this morning, it seems he's got itchy feet. Even if he doesn't get this job he will obviously be a contender for the next " big " job that comes along. I don't think we should really be suprised, the silence from Hughes at the time of the Spurs and City vacancies was deafening ! The club's response wasn't too impressive either.

... and who will Pompey go for?

Now that would be a real kick in the teeth. Pompey fans seem to be resigned between "he's mad to go" and "anything's possible after the Southampton shuffle." Newcastle fans are on there begging 'arry to stay at Pompey! As for'arry after life, they think Allerdyce or giving Adams a run as caretaker but what the Gaydarmuks would want is anybody's guess.

The most salient post I've seen came from a Bolton fan- BFS made more from 20 weeks at Newcastle than in his entire careers with Bolton.

Anyway, Louise Taylor of the Guardian is doing her best to flog Hughes to Toon. The blog responses could hardly be less supportive! She also headlined an article all about Redknapp with Hughes moving into contention!

Anyway, all the press are agreed that Ashley will hand over the £6m, £8m, £9m, £10m, £12m (pick your number) and free flights to Dorset to get Redknapp.

A little final para in the Telegraph says Newcastle will consider a foreign manager if they don't get their target and seem to doubt Hughes' position as number 2 on the want list.

Martin Samuel heaps derision on Mike Ashley if he fails to parade the new man against Man U.

I'd agree with you there, if you were a manager and thought you were good then Newcastle is a fantastic prospect. Yes, many managers have gone there and failed, but it has pretty much everything in place (apart from the squad) in order to be a top side and the person who achieves it will be a god. I think most of us probably look for a challenge in what we do, if you were in football management then that is one of the biggest in England. I'm not sure I'd leave a fairly safe job at a top-half side to go there, so seeing as Harry already has a good squad and money behind him I'm not sure I would make the move, but I certainly understand why it would attract anyone.

One thing to remember- Newcastle are simply three managerial failures on from where they were four years ago when they eventually landed their seventh choice Souness.

It is a well known fact that Ashley will sell Newcastle for the right price so an Allardyce-situation of not being the new owners' man could easily happen again to whoever gets appointed.

Won't take much or any length of time before it won't be particularly safe for Ashley to join the crowd in his replica shirt.

Nicko, do you know if we have shown any interest in James McFadden? I personally think he'd be an excellent signing. Any idea what Everton want for him?

Also, is there a possibility, Man Utd would let Darren Fletcher out on loan? He has started only once in the league for them & four times CL.

McFadden would be a interesting one, never really know his postion though? Is he a forward or a winger?

I dont personally rate Fletcher, i dont think he's better than any midfielders we currently have, but he might be worth getting on loan while we have these injurys etc.
