but then again smartass would any of thos eplayers be available for 15m ? Think your looking at 150m for Messi and somewhere in the region of 76m for ronaldo !

No, they would not and I never stated they could be purchased for £15m! I simply suggested that Bolton will struggle to attract (decent) players as they are pretty average, managed by Gary Megson and play pretty average football. Which I think is correct and I will be proved right.

Anyways this is Nicko’s thread so END OF THIS SUBJECT NOW.

Of course not. We were simply debating the 'principle' of being a wealthy club. Why am I the only smart one around here?

I disagree with your general point. You are implying that money is the only factor in a player's decision to move and I think the name and heritage also matter (or at least are a factor).

If Bill Gates took over Bolton it doesn't mean they'd get say Kaka. Even if they offered a billion pounds and AC Milan accepted I still don't think Kaka would go because of the name.

That's why (as sad as it is) most clubs have a glass ceiling where no matter how rich (or even successful up to a point) they are they'll never recreate the respect that a club like Man Utd or Madrid have. Of course if Bolton won the Prem a few times and a couple of CLs then Kaka might sign but not just because they have money.

Think about it, have any of Chelsea's buys been huge? Shevchenko was I suppose but that's it and players like Ronaldinho and Kaka have said in the past how much they appreciate the prestige and respect of clubs like Barca and Milan.

If Money was the only issue why don't Chelsea just buy Kaka, Ronaldinho, Henry, Messi etc?

Shame Ashley didn't consider buying us, Rovers would of cost less than just the debt he's paid off at Newcastle

Redknapp is still the bookies’ favourite to replace Sam Allardyce, with Blackburn boss Mark Hughes as second favourite. Rovers used to be sponsored by one of Mike Ashley companies and he often turned up at games at Ewood Park.

He met Hughes and has always been impressed by the job the former Manchester United, Chelsea and Welsh striker has done on limited funds with Blackburn.

Nicko, any idea who the player Bolton have supposedly had a big money offer accepted for is.

Its not a striker according to Megson, also said the deal wont go through until the selling club find a replacement.

There was talk of Elmander for £9m but I think he's a striker so that probably rules him out.

Glass ceilings are there to be broken- Rovers did it in the early '90s after appointing Kenny.

The trick is having the right weight of hammer.

Did we though? The players we bought may have been the better players in the league but we didn't and wouldn't have got the likes of Stoichkov or the World class players at the time.

Shearer was the best striker in the world bar none. Nobody else was approaching his near goal a game record at top league and international levels.

Summer of '95 we had first chance of signing Bobby Baggio, Zidane and Dugary.

So the answer is an emphatic yes. We broke it then decided notr to go through the hole.

The glass ceiling as we now know it had not been established back in 95. It has come to be due to the money the Premiership brand has brought into the game. The established top 4 has only been such for around the last 5 years, and it has never been stronger than it is now.

In 95, anyone with a bit of money would have had the opportunity we had. These days, a comparative amount of money is unlikely to lead to comparative success.

Um no, Shearer was a very good player and to many English people was World Class but he was not considered World Class by the rest of the World when he was at Southampton. Remember we talking about him moving to us from Southampton and not after he joined and became a better player.

It's been a busy day.

NEWCASTLE - as told here repeatedly, it's Redknapp's if he wants it. I think he is swaying that way.

SIGNINGS - none by the weekend and few in sight.

KOUMAS - it's a possible, but hopefully they can do better.

MCFADDEN - why?

BULGARIAN STRIKER - doubtful...Rovers want him to stay longer, he is fed up waiting on an answer.

ANELKA - a lot of money, Chelsea forced into a corner...and Sparky admitted his love and respect for him today. It is little consolation.

BOLTON SIGNINGS - nothing by Sunday, they fancy Elmander but have only bid HALF of what Toulouse want. Talking big about spending. We shall see. By the way, Anelka to Chelsea for £15 million and on a four-and-a-half-year £15 million contract first appeared in the Daily Mirror on November 20, 2007 for those who feel the need to check.

KEWELL - dunno, checking, find it hard to believe.

FLETCHER - interesting thought, but Man U need him for the Champions League.

Well its all pretty academic about a nebulous concept.

Back then, we hit a ceiling when we offered for Lineker and weren't so much rejected as ridiculed. Dobson and Livingston arrived then the break through appointing Dalglish which meant we could buy anyone in the UK.

In those days, the world elite clubs were not in England but in the summer of '95, both Man U and Rovers could have joined that elite. Some of the world's best players were offered to Rovers.

Nowadays, the door to joining the world's elite is at 4th place in the English Premiership. Only Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, the two Milan clubs and perhaps Roma and Juve can live in that company.

Not busy in a good way then :(

Unfortunately, as predicted and as feared.

Mind you, I believe the team news for Sunday is more encouraging and it will be a stronger side than first imagined.

But no Tugay, the mystery injury was serious after all.

He can forget it then! If he doesn't want to give himself a better chance of getting a deal then he can go back to his micky mouse league.

Liverpool are always linked with rovers players nicko and Kewell would be a useful make way in a deal for MGP or Bentley. Get his wages off their bill and bring down the transfer fee.

How serious? Surely we need to buy a central midfielder!

Two to three weeks. You will have two senior but slightly injury-prone central midfielders in your team on Sunday, so I would agree that one or even two midfielders is an absolute must.
