Mozzer Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 roar of the rover is right.. petrov only did well because he was against zurab-who is slow and is a centre back in the second half he wasnt half the threat he was in the first half..emerton moved to right back and petrov hardly did anything.. bolton dont really have any quick left wingers, so zurab at right back wouldnt be such a big deal..

Roar of the Rover Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 He put in some great crosses when he got in the positions. Bianchi missed a sitter - and I'm sure he put in another amazing cross in 2nd half. He only got into them positions because Zura wasn't fast enough, once Emerton went at right back he was alot quite.
nicko Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 just been on ssn that were after cisse aswell as koumas. any truth on cisse nicko? Cisse is for sale - at the fee mentioned about a week ago - and I don't think it is a priority right now. If the price came down or he was available on loan that might change. Obviously if Jason Roberts even finds a new home it would become more interesting. The fact no-one had met Marseille's price means he is still up for grabs, so it's a wait and see job.
Mozzer Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 is the fee 7.5million?? as far as your concerned would we need to sell mcarthy to raise that, or just roberts.. a strike force of cruz, mcarthy , cisse and derbyshire would be exciting..
tcj_jones Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Doesn't Petrov rip everyone to pieces though? To be fair I don't think any of our defenders could have stopped Petrov that day. Petrov is a very good player and had a blinder in the first half against us, but as soon as Emerton was moved to right back, he didn't have nearly the same impact as he did before. Zurab doesn't have the pace, but what makes him such a liability in that position is his dreadful positional sense. I'd give Kane the nod in this instance.
Roar of the Rover Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Nicko, did we make any approach for Anelka?
rebelmswar Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Nicko, did we make any approach for Anelka? I believe Hughes drove by him in his car once.
Roar of the Rover Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 I believe Hughes drove by him in his car once. Aha! so that must have started the rumour?
Dunnfc Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Tugay,Emerton are definatley out! Reid 50/50 Ooijer 25/75 But Dunn and Cruz are back. Article - http://www.rovers.premiumtv.co.uk/page/New...1212458,00.html Wonder is Dunn will get booooed?
rebelmswar Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Wonder is Dunn will get booooed? Why would he?
philipl Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Can we have some level headed reality on here. 1) Cisse is rubbish. He was poor at Liverpool, terrible at Marseille and now he has been dropped, the biggest club in France is beginning to pick itself up from the bottom of the legue. 2) Fletcher- see Richardson. Or rather you didn't see Richardson when he was playing for Sunderland against us recently. Fletcher is OKish when playing with Man U players, hopeless when not. I really do want to keep our hands firmly in our pockets if that is the best that is available in this window. I might be wrong but the only player to have moved to a Premiership club so far this window who might have improved what we have already is Anelka who has just cost Chelsea £15m and is a sulky so and so who will be on his way again within 18 months.

nicko Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Nicko, did we make any approach for Anelka? Directly or indirectly? Officially or unofficially? I'll let you answer that yourself. The best shot was hoping he did not go to one of the big four. Chelsea couldn't get who the first choices they wanted and had to pay through the nose.
G Somerset Rover Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Exactly Ffan. Fletcher would easily be one of ours and your best players. I'd imagine that we'd have to pay through the roof for anybody who has came through the ranks at OT however.
1864roverite Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Might be the biggest costliest stop gap ever Phil. Dogbreath, sahar,Kalou, chevy chase,Pizzarro and now Anelka. Thats 6 top class centre forwards and they can only play 2 at any one time. I just cannot see cfc having the othr 4 on he bench every game so something has got to give. I think that once the ACN is over with a fire sale is going to be on at Stamford Bridge.
Dunnfc Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 We never get a straight answer from club press confrences however ive got an idea to solve this! Nicko - Apply to be the clubs PR guy! Your qualified i mean you give people a straight answer. Do you always know before Rovers sign someone - or occasionally do they surprise you by signing someone you didn't know they were after? I'm clutching at straws here! Yes...

Tim Southampton Rover Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 He's been over for a week and I believe it went well enough. If it is all agreed I think he will be sent out to Cercle Brugge until he gets a permit or whatever. So he won't be around the first team just yet. What if we sort out an arranged marriage to a UK citizen? Anyone drunk enough to agree?
rebelmswar Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 What if we sort out an arranged marriage to a UK citizen? Anyone drunk enough to agree? I have a thing for Asians just the wrong gender this time, sorry I am out of this one.
ihateburnley Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 I have a thing for Asians Let's hope Valeri does whilst he's over here!
Lathund Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 I've had my suspicions that we'd try for Fletcher ever since it became clear that Savage was on his way out, think I mentioned it here at the time. Seems to tick a lot of boxes; The Man U connection (Plus the convenience of not having to move house), he has the kind of work rate and engine that Sparky likes, not too dissimilar to Savage really, and he's 5th choice once Scholes is fit and they're not short in numbers. (Scholes, Carrick, Anderson, Hargreaves ahead of him, Park can play there too I think, and one of their youngsters (Gibson?) is highly rated at OT) I certainly wouldn't mind that deal happening. Though the obvious downside is that as someone who's featured quite a lot for United in recent years (40 appearances last season I think) they'd be in a position to demand quite a large fee I think. Though there's absolutely nothing solid linking us to him, it just hit me that it'd be a good match for all parties involved. If Bolton can get Elmander to replace Anelka they'd do very well. He's not the type of predator Anelka is, but is more like Roque. Not as good in the air, but is a very powerful runner and has the same kind of work ethic, would be a fan favourite anywhere really due to the way he plays.
Jimmy Jupiter Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Why would he? Think he means by the Bolton fans, as he was close to signing for them not us.

I think that once the ACN is over with a fire sale is going to be on at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea's front two is an easy choice for me: Drogba and Anelka, which is possibly one of the best forward combinations you could muster. That said, Drogba will be off at the end of the season. Sahar has barely made an appearance for Chelsea, Shevchenko has been largely poor since signing while Kalou has poor finishing and often plays on the wing in any case. Pizarro looks a good player, but not world class. If I were Grant, I would pull out all the stops to keep Drogba, retain Anelka and Pizarro, flog Shevchenko, Sahar and Kalou and bring in a player like Villa or Berbatov. That could be one of the world's best attacks.
neophox Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 I would love a strikeforce with Santa Cruz and Johan Elmander. Nicko is there any possibility Hughes would be interested by Elmander? Bolton is I think?
