herbergeehh Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I am certain that an approach will be made by Monday and that Hughes will want to join them. He has built something special here but I feel that the financial resources of Newcastle will tempt him as he will believe that he can take them to the next level. Now I am worried.

SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I hope to god I'm wrong but the main fear here is that the board at Ewood are about to pay a high price for their tight money policy.Hughes has (clearly frustrated) repeated many times that the club needs financial support. Fat Sam for Ewood anyone?...................FFS!
modes98 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Hughes has now drifted from evens to 2/1. While Shearer has gone from evens to 3/1. Keegan has fallen from 10/1 to 8/1. I can understand why Hughes would think about taking the job but it will set his managerial ambitions back by a few years when it all goes wrong, which it will.
SuperStella Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Tight money 'policy' - is that a new word for preventing funds be made available that done EXIST?!
Paul Mellelieu Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Oh dear. Those of a religious persuasion may want to starting praying.
ffan Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Nicko, are Fulham interested in the Valencia midfielder, David Albelda?
Guest Kamy100 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 The problem is that if they offered the job to Shearer he would it to hard to turn down, but the Newcastle board have said a couple of times over the last few days that they are looking for an experienced manager. It is also been reported that Ashley was very impressed with Hughes when he met him through the Lonsdale sponsorship of Rovers. All the noises that I have heard that Hughes was always going to be a serious target if Redknapp turned them down.
nicko Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Nicko, are Fulham interested in the Valencia midfielder, David Albelda? Dunno...but I will tell you what centre half you are signing... In the soaraway Sunday People tomorrow. And it's not Henchoz...yet.
philipl Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 In many ways it is a win win for Rovers fans. Hughes is surely going to make demands to stay and if he goes there are good managers around who would give the team the boost they need right now. My gut feel is that Hughes is too calculating to take the risk of going the same way as Ardilles, Keegan, Gullit, Dalglish, Robson, Roeder, Allardyce (I must have missed somebody). Spurs was safe compared with Newcastle. Its in the balance but if 'Arry turned it down, there's got to be a very good reason as well as the obvious.
RevidgeBlue Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 It makes me laugh when the Newcastle job is referred to as "a poisoned chalice" in the context of Mark Hughes. What on earth is being manager of the only Premiership Club without a workable transfer budget? A career ruiner in the long term if ever there was one. Clutching at straws I hope Newcastle have someone else in mind other than Sparky. Otherwise I fear it will simply be a case of dotting thei's and crossing the t's.

USABlue Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 If you look at someone's eyes if they are lying they tend to look up, saw it on 24 or CSI or something CSI, must be true then. I thought it was you look left if you are lying, right if you are recalling truthful events. But that was on CSI too, nowt like educational TV is there?
nicko Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 i want some comforting words from nicko Pillow. Blanket. Seriously, I don't think Newcastle will come for Sparky. Ashley will have to do something about the Shearer issue first. He either needs to rule him out and say why or get the slippery bugger to say 'I don't want the job.' I still don't think he fancies it and the rumour about his interest is a bit of mischief. Until that is resolved Ashley and Newcastle are stuffed. Of the other candidates, I think he will have to go major and stunning. I know people are reading things into the manager's facial expressions. I was there and saw someone who was a litle resigned to his current fate, little money and the same old headaches. However he is a man with a bit of bottle and enough faith in himself that a top job will come one day and maybe soon. I am not sure he would see Newcastle in that light. I hope, for his sake, that he doesn't. No manager has a chance with Shearer lurking and 60,000-plus Geordie worshippers waiting for the Messiah to return.
nicko Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 can you tell me pwetty please, won't tell anyone i swear. Is it boumsong/hypia/haangeland? I might have, but your three guesses have just gone...and they are wrong.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Hughes happy at Ewood 'on a shoestring budget' GET THIS CLUB SOLD WILLIAMS AND GIVE THE MANAGER THE BACKING HE DESERVES.......GETTING SICK OF THIS NOW!
ffan Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I might have, but your three guesses have just gone...and they are wrong. ok but in your opinion will he be a decent buy?

BUT I have a feeling that Hughes ticks all the boxes for Newcastle and they will come in for him.
Paul Mellelieu Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Typing in capitals won't make it happen any quicker.
USABlue Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Now I am worried. Been worried all along. The time is right for Sparky to leave, I think he is losing it here and to prevent damage to his hitherto excellent reputation getting out now is a good idea. People are talking about poisoned chalice but imagine the boost to the CV if you can say you succeeded where all those other "big names" failed.
nicko Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 ok but in your opinion will he be a decent buy? Yes. Very decent, what you need.
USABlue Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 What on earth is being manager of the only Premiership Club without a workable transfer budget? A career ruiner in the long term if ever there was one. Oh come on Rev that is a ridiculous comment and you know it. To build a competitive side without spending huge amount of cash can only boost a persons career. Scraping the barrel a bit there to have a dig at the trustees for us having no dosh.
USABlue Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 there's good managers around but would any of them come to rovers? hell if hughes left in november then i feel we couldve attracted better managers but right now with our recent run of form, i think the general consensus is that things could very easily go very wrong for us. which they could. harry probably turned it down because he's at a club with a supportive board with plenty of money to spend and relatively low expectations. hughes has two of those things at blackburn but not the money to spend part... Plus Harry is very happy in his personal life, enjoying where he lives and all. I think some of the good managers would come here due to this being a football first sort of club, Souness used to praise us that way. However, if by top manager we mean those who have to spend to be successful then obviously those types of managers will be non starters.
