RevidgeBlue Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I still don't believe Ashley would have potted BFS without having a verbal "yes I'd take it" from someone, be it 'Arry, Sparky or indeed another candidate.

brian_gallagher85 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 From what we've seen over the last 48hrs...maybe he had one from 'Arry?
Rover down South Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Mort statement reported on SSN IF Mort, Williama and Hughes are all telling the truth then perhaps Hughes is not even a candidate at this stage. Mort saying he has been speaking to candidates suggests the candidates are either talking with the permission of the clubs involved, not currently in a job or he's tapping up. No evidence to back this up, it's complete hunch, but I reckon they'll go for Martin Jol. They won't have to pay compensation for him & he is regarded quite highly within football. really can't see anyone else giving up a job to take it, they will be jobless in 12 months if they fail, what has Jol got to lose, if he failed he would get a big pay off. I think he is their best option. Whoever it is, good luck to them. If it does turn out to be Mark Hughes, all the very best to him, he has done well for us. Then I'd like us to go for Jol.
Roar of the Rover Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 So, any news on some players coming in?
thenodrog Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 No reason for this at all but if I was a betting man I might put a shilling on Houllier.
Nelsta Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I got told when sam got the boot was if i was to put money on an outside then i should stick it on Jol.At the time he was 12/1.I hope he gets it.
Brownie Posted January 12, 2008 Author Posted January 12, 2008 I think Jol too, they couldnt take the embarrasment of being rejected twice so Jol would be a safe option and he wants the job, plus no compensation Jol now 6\1 from 10\1, Hughes 4\1, Shearer 5\1.
T4E Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 There's clearly some money to be made on this, has anyone got anything concrete?
DanLad Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I still don't believe Ashley would have potted BFS without having a verbal "yes I'd take it" from someone, be it 'Arry, Sparky or indeed another candidate. No, no, no! That's not the Newcastle way. If they did that they wouldn't end up floundering around and looking stupid. It's just not the way they operate. A fortnight to get a new man in as it turns out *shock* no-one wants to drink from the poisoned chalice. No time to scout players. Mega-money panic buys at the end of the transfer window, all of whom fail abysmally and/or get injured. New man gets potted, probably two hours after the end of the transfer windonw at the start of next season. If I could put some money on that?
Mozzer Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 maybe our board could actually get some cash together and back hughes... the only reason i would see hughes leaving blackburn for newcastle is for the chance to spend any amount of money on a player-which he cant at blackburn for now.. nicko, i know you was checking the kewell to blackburn rumour-have you heard anything back??
Beta Ray Bill Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 We're now at page 400. Any chance of closing this thread, starting a new one with a brief summary of anything of note from this one?
nicko Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 nicko, i know you was checking the kewell to blackburn rumour-have you heard anything back?? Liverpool won't let him go just now while they are in Europe - and there has been no contact from Blackburn according to people in the Kewell camp.
revolutionrock! Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Liverpool won't let him go just now while they are in Europe - and there has been no contact from Blackburn according to people in the Kewell camp. So Nicko. Whats the deal with Newcastle/Hughes now?
nicko Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Jol is going to be favourite soon..... Just a thought on that one. Mike Ashley is a big pal of Paul Kemsley who also advises him on football matters. Kemsley was the guy who orchestrated Martin Jol's departure from Tottenham. If he goes favourite, lay for your lives.
nicko Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 So Nicko. Whats the deal with Newcastle/Hughes now? As far as I know there is no link. I'm sure some will write that there is in the Sundays, but I think not. I have heard a name but cannot stand it up yet, so I won;t be putting that one out until I do. Just saw Everton and Man City today...the top four is within reach of anyone who wants it.

1864roverite Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Just a thought on that one. If he goes favourite, lay for your lives. Just gonna run that past my wife !!!

nicko Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Just a Sunday People plug... There will be a bit of news about a potential arrival, tied in with the selling club trying to raise money. The target is not my idea of good news.
T4E Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Might be an idea to keep the smugness in check until they have someone in place who doesn't answer to the name Mark Hughes. You know what comes before a fall.
John Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Just a Sunday People plug... There will be a bit of news about a potential arrival, tied in with the selling club trying to raise money. The target is not my idea of good news. What position does this potential arrival play in? Potential arrival meaning a bid has been made, or we considering one?
