Dunnfc Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 My guess is Teemu Taino, but hes only had Spurs. in truth its probably Quashie, who id hate to have here (n.o)
T4E Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I think we can all stop guessing players that currently play for Premiership clubs. We wouldn't be taking someone from another Premiership club on trial. Must be currently abroad but has been around the Prem a bit. ...................oh (Please don't use that word again), Nolan just scored
modes98 Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I think we can all stop guessing players that currently play for Premiership clubs. We wouldn't be taking someone from another Premiership club on trial. It very well could be. As mentioned it's to check his fitness, etc. As he hasn't been involved much.
philipl Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Yes...well-known...but only a Premier League journeyman. Still, it could be an extra body. No need for panic. To help those who are not playing the right game.
Rover 'til I die Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 To help those who are not playing the right game. Robbie Savage?
T4E Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 It very well could be. As mentioned it's to check his fitness, etc. As he hasn't been involved much. I can't see another Premiership club letting us take one of theirs on trial. Likewise us letting a player from a rival club train with us for a few days. I'd be surprised if our management were happy with that arrangement.
Dunnfc Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I wish Hughes would say no thanks to NUFC, i mean why cant he give a straight answer to a straight forward question? Do you think hes playing our board for more money?
EwoodGlory Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Hopefully he just wants his name to be linked with it for as long as possible and if offered it, to turn it down. This could help his profile. Watching the interviews is quite painful though
Nelsta Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 There talking bout Hughes' interveiw on Talksport and there saying it's a reply to suggest he would go if offerd.
JAL Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 There talking bout Hughes' interveiw on Talksport and there saying it's a reply to suggest he would go if offerd. If hes desperate then fine, but as nicko states hes down the pecking order. If Hughes cant pull in a quality central midfielder then its probably time for Mark Hughes to go we wont do as well next season and Hughesy reputation will suffer.
T4E Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Hopefully he just wants his name to be linked with it for as long as possible and if offered it, to turn it down. This could help his profile. Christ on a bike, you're clutching at straws there. Face it, he would go to Newcastle if asked. So would most of our players.
Paul Mellelieu Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Nelsta, Get a grip. We're in the mix for Europe and you're worrying about next season!
Darwen Rover Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Couple of things: Hughes to Newcastle - Brave man if he takes the NUFC job, another one on the long list of mgrs who have tried and not been given the time! Roberts - There have been a few spells where he is been outstanding, IF hughes can get him to be consistently as good sa he clearly was today we should keep him! If Hughes is not convinced of his consistency, we should cash in... Only Hughes knows.. Midfield - We clearly need a midfielder or two.. I think Fletcher / Sidwell would be awesome to patner Reid (as i belive he is getting better and will soon be back to his best!)
Mr. E Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 except for money, for the life of me I do not understand why any manager would want to go Newcaslte. They are far from "one of the biggest clubs in England", the fans turn on the manager after a few games of no results, there is a serious problem with the unity of the players that no one has managed to solve. It's a lose-lose situation for everyone.
revolutionrock! Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I think Fletcher / Sidwell would be awesome to patner Reid (as i belive he is getting better and will soon be back to his best!) Amen. Lets sort the midfield out and qualify for europe.
Nelsta Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Nelsta, Get a grip. We're in the mix for Europe and you're worrying about next season! Ehhhh???? Pardon?????? where have i said anything about next season?
Lathund Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I can't see another Premiership club letting us take one of theirs on trial. Well if they really want rid then perhaps they would (Although that would raise the question of *why* they desperately want rid). Though if it's more of an extended medical than a more traditional trial then it doesn't seem like such a strange idea.
Darwen Rover Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Amen. Lets sort the midfield out and qualify for europe. Actually guys, would LOVE for us to buy Emre, the guy oozes class, perhaps Toogs could have a word?? Dont think he was playing against man U was he?? So.. Buy Emre outright, I reckon NUFC will sell for £4m and look to loan either Sidwell and Fletcher as I dont think either Chelski or ManU will sell??
philipl Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Do you think hes playing our board for more money? Yes Turn this around and look at it from the Newcastle end of the telescope: - at the moment Hughes is not even being discussed by either the press or the NUFC discussion boards - Hall (who is life President) has mentioned Houllier and Martinez (Swansea) - Souness' attack on Fat Freddie is getting a lot of plaudits and his availability getting a surprising amount of support - There is only one name really; Shearer, either on his own or in tandem. One eye-catching comment I saw was that Hughes will be critically dependent on Ferguson's backing to get the Man U job and therefore would not go against Ferguson's opinion about Newcastle's behaviour.
herbergeehh Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Well, unless Hughes CLEARLY would like to make people aware of just how unlikely it is for him to accept a request from Newcastle, I can at least see why he could not give a definitive negative answer. But I have had a sneeky feeling all along, ironically the fact that so many managers have failed to make Newcastle a decent side - actually so many managers have made them a ordinary at best-side - can attract the likes of Hughes. Money on top, and he'll find the temptation hard to resist. On a side note, Gary McCallister pointed out how Liverpool was a deadly side with Gerrard and Torres, and nothing more than ordinary without them. He actually used the word "ordinary". That 4th place is still within range. Which says it all, barring in mind our poor Christmas period. Three Prem wins in a row now by the way, onwards and upwards!!
Paul Mellelieu Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Ehhhh???? Pardon?????? where have i said anything about next season? Sorry, I meant Jal.
nicko Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Interesting day. Shame about the half-time full-time bet. Got to say the manager's comments about Newcastle United are a little bit strange. He had a specific chance to nail it in the press conference and wouldn't. I think he would take it if he was asked. However, as I hear it, he has not been. There will be stories tomorrow, I fear my paper among them, saying he is getting the job. I am yet to be convinced, but he could have killed this thing once and for all.

Well if he goes the he goes....BUT it would be a huge mistake in my opinion. But if he does go it isnt the end of the world....the new man would be inheriting a strong squad. Cant for the life of me think who we would be interested in though!
philipl Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Setanta- Hughes happy at Rovers Sky- Hughes coy about Newcastle But thankfully Sir Bobby has just come out in full on support of Shearer and that's likely to be the headline grabber.
