revolutionrock! Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Left winger - in on loan this week probably. Striker - bid in tomorrow. Midfielder - bid already in...an alternative in on trial this week. Centre half - one in on trial this week. Coyley did not rate Chaplow at that price. I tend to agree. The one he wants is better and cheaper. But , are they well known players?

Hasta Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 No to Jol...if Kemsley is still advising Ashley. He was the man who was behind Jol's knifing at Tottenham. Burnley are trying hard. Four points off the top six, remember. If they get the left winger, striker, midfielder and possible centre half they are after they will go very close. I watched them the other week and I agree. If they get a goalkeeper, four defenders, two midfielders and couple of wingers and some front men they'll go close.
mattjansen Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 But , are they well known players? According to swedish papers this weekend a swedish forward called Olof Guterstam is currently on trial at Leeds but people from Burnley are supposed to be watching him to, he is 25 and plays for Brommapojkarna in the swedish second league. Not good.
Mozzer Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 nicko..can you not tell us the midfielder that is coming in on trial with a view to a loan move.. im sure no other paper will nick your story(there probably getting published now)...lol.. is hughes having second thoughts on allowing jason roberts to leave?? hopefully he is..
Lurid Coat Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Nicko - care to comment on the lists they_think_it's_all_rover and I made earlier today concerning the "half decent" midfield target? Link 1 Link 2
T4E Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I think you can only come to the conclusion, from Hughes' comments, that he would, given the right terms, take the job. I think Philip's spin is wide of the mark. That's because, as usual, he's being ridiculously over-optimistic despite all evidence pointing in the other direction.
Taggart Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Spot on. Personally on the hughes to Newcastle saga - i think he will remain with Rovers. I agree that his comments have been far from conclusive in denail for the job and they are certianly open to interpretations, but there are a couple of quotes which sway me in the direction that he will remain at Rovers, and will have put pressure on the board to release some funds for improvement to drive for the top 6 / top 4. Quote from skysports "It's got nothing to do with me - as a professional football manager then speculation surrounds each and everyone of us when a vacancy comes up. "But all I can do is work extremely hard like I have always done at Blackburn Rovers." The fact that Hughes states that it has nothing to do with him, would suggest that : - a) there has been no approach if there was an approach then its up to the board to allow him to leave / speak to NUFC c) he is saying that people will always speculate, but it doesn`t impact him as the situation has nothing to do with him And he states that all he can do, is to work extremely hard, if he was goign to leave, then he wouldn`t say that all he can do is work hard for Rovers - plus if he wanted to go to NUFC, then it certainly would have something to do with him - contracts / club ambitions etc etc Thats my take on his comments - an di would be very disappointed if th eboard allow him to move, and if he did in fact go to the barcodes. He has always done well by Rovers and i have faith that he will yet again try to finish what he is doing at Ewood !
Rover 'til I die Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 People are moaning about Hughes' comments so far but footballers are always coy and I expect manager's to be the same. I mean, Harry Redknapp came out and said a lot of things about how happy he was at Pompey but still went to meet Ashley so even if Hughes had been more forthcoming with more 'postive' statements it wouldn't have meant anything. I just hope Sparky heard the fans at the end chanting his name and realises how much we want him to stay. I hope he takes on board the reasons Harry gave for turning it down and hope that Newcastle will look to some so-called big name to take over. I can see a few things to be postive about here 1) Mark Hughes isn't exactly the fan's choice and they can put a lot of pressure on the chairman. 2) After the weekend results he would be walking away from a team just a win off 4th place and into one that been whooped 6-0 and going nowhere fast. 3) We are half way through the transfer window already, would he have enough time to get the players in he wants? 4) Hughes has recently signed a new contract. If this was a close season thing it would be more tempting but Hughes may just want to finish what he started this season with us; we've just turned the corner and if he walked into Newcastle now he would have a goalless season really. Come on Sparky do the right thing and stay.....

nicko Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Is it Gravesen? No, he's on the bench at Everton. Saw him yesterday. Looks like a cheerleader's role is the best he can achieve just now.
John Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Nicko, do you have any insight to why John Williams's has not said a word on the Newcastle speculation.

Somebody shrewdly mentioned that he is obviously not in the Premier League just now, which is one reason why he has to prove his fitness first... Is it GoldenBalls and he is a journeyman as he has travelled all the way from LA to train with arsenal !
nicko Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Nicko, do you have any insight to why John Williams's has not said a word on the Newcastle speculation. I suppose the chairman has no need to comment because there has been no approach. However the manager could stop this whole thing with one statement - 'I don't want the Newcastle United job.'
philipl Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 That's because, as usual, he's being ridiculously over-optimistic despite all evidence pointing in the other direction. Show me Newcastle wanting Hughes or that any manager of Newcastle will be allowed to manage on Hughes' terms. I am not saying it is impossible Hughes will go there. Newcastle missed a window of opportunity to grab him when Redknapp turned them down and the fact they did not move then must make Hughes question taking it were if it ever to be offered even more as he is clearly not foremost in their thinking. Pompey are busy issuing hands-off Redknapp statements again and 'Arry has been quoted as saying he was mad to turn it down. There are reports that Mike Ashley is going to see Redknapp personally when he gets back from Hong Kong on Tuesday to get him to change his mind. Here is the first of the dailies- was Oliver Kay of the Times at the press conference nicko?. Scroll down to the stuff in the right hand column as well.

John Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Redknapp also ruled out any chance of him joining Newcastle should the club renew their interest. "No, not a prayer, I couldn't do that," said Redknapp after Portsmouth's 2-0 defeat at Sunderland on Sunday. "I said I'm going to stay at Portsmouth. I wouldn't be able to show my face again, I'd be finished
nicko Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 The Times guy was there. He obviously got the gist. The point remains, the boss had the chance to put this to bed, to a specific question giving him that chance...and he did not.

Usually, I would be delighted after 3 points away from home, but can't help feel down.
revolutionrock! Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Yes, good ones. Il belive it when i see it . I think this is your bet on the scum to go up talking!
nicko Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Il belive it when i see it . I think this is your bet on the scum to go up talking! Believe, believe. If they get the left winger it will be one hell of a bit of business. The others are good too. This is perhaps not the time to be having a go at another club signing players...
Plastic Head Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Yes, good ones. Why would a good player go to Burnley? Name one good player to play for them in the last 30 years.... (OK Gazza was decent at one time but he was on 30 pints a day at the time, had he been sober he would have noticed some of the fans had 2 heads surely)
