I think we could get Jol. He managed a very similar club (Not a "big club" but a massively over acheiving one) in AZ Alkmaar and after being very badly treated at Spurs he could fancy it if JW said- "ou run this place exactly the way you want".

The only problem is if he has no money availble it becomes extremely undesirable. How much compensation would we get for Hughes- 5m?

there's no way we could get anything like the kind of money he spent at spurs though. and 5 million for hughes would buy one player....i think he knows theres clubs in europe with much more money than us who will want his services soon enough.

Apart from that il be crying and gutted if Hughes left, BFS would never be welcome here, id hate it if we appointed him.

Id like Jol but he wouldnt come here maybe go for an unknown or Aidy Boothroyd.

Rovers showing a real lack of unambition if Hughes leaves and for me hes an absoloute hero.

what would happen if newcastle made an approach and the board denied them permission to speak to him? surely they can do that?

i think hughes would be reasonably happy to stay at rovers, he's just very tempted by the lure of more money to spend, the challenge etc etc at newcastle and would say yes if the opportunity came up.

The board can reject any bid but Mark Hughes can talk to them and buy himself out of his contract, i think.

Dont panic lads he aint going! When Newcastle have made a bid for him then panic until then keep your fingers crossed.

Mark Hughsies blue white army!

I heard a snippet of a sniff that Hughes had said something to the team tonight about his future, hes was supposedly seeing J Williams after the match also and Shearer is going to have talks tommorow with Newcastle United.

The board would block any move for Hughes but then it's up to Hughes to either accept the boards decision or come out and say he wants to go to toon land, all things considered and work he has put in I would like to think he has the sense to see the job through at Blackburn.

But if Hughes wanted to go, lets go for Mourino, and see how good a manager he is with hardly out to spend :P

Hughes needs to decide quickly.

The board can't sanction any money for the manager to spend when it's uncertain where his future lies.

If Hughes does leave, by the time a new man is appointed there won't be much of a transfer window left for the new manager to make new signings.

If that's true back now on Betfair and get laying tomorrow.

Betfair price on Sparky was 5.9 when Nicko posted earlier , currently in to 3.95

Sparky now 2.68 on Betfair.

Bit of free money there from Nicko but it's not looking good.

He said before this job came up that he has unfinshed business here, that still the case?

I think if he goes to Newcastle, hes used us big time. I wouldnt mind him going to OT but to St James Park thats a step backwards for me.

Where was Newcastle 3.5 years ago, nowhere! We took a chance with him id like him to repay the loyalty.

Simple fact is, he is roughly 6/4 to go to Newcastle on Betfair.

That is odds against which means the bookies think he is more likely to stay than go.

This despite tomorow's media frenzy.

Despite this I have bad vibes ..................

The bookies don't have much say in Betfairs price. It's just punter against punter. Be more ineresting to see what the traditional bookies do early tomorrow morning. At the moment Hughes is still around 3/1 as he has been all day.

Of course youre right, posted before I thought that through but Betfair is still a much better indication as to whats happening than the traditional Bookie.

Betfair will give the signals before any newspaper or announcement.

Lets not forget that Hughes is still very much odds against and Redknapp was 1/5 at one stage so here's hoping.

He didnt seem to celebrate the winner like someone who knows he's leaving

Trying to read about Hughes but some butthead kept asking questions about the dingles. Dingles are going up by the way, nicko is right. The time for shift in power is nigh in East Lancs. Sparky off, Dingles gain the ascendency, now where's me rope.

Alarm blares out:

"ATTENTION Philip reversing, ATTENTION Philip reversing...................."

Hughes was pretty outspoken on Friday, not so yesterday.

Newcastle have not offered and are over a barrel if they do as they will be talking to the same agent who negotiated for Redknapp. He will take the Redknapp deal and up it for Sparky almost certainly demanding conditions of employment which would deny Mike Ashley his fun.

It is quite possible that the Newcastle board are in such a tight corner that they have nowhere else to go except for Sparky just as a previous Newcastle regime were so cornered they went for Souness. But Newcastle haven't made a move and are unlikely to do so before Ashley is back in the UK. The perfect press storm breaking today might blow out if Newcastle do take their time about it as Mort has said they will now.

The wild card in all this is how the Rovers owners and board will react. In this respect you have an entreprenurial heavyweight up against a legal/managerial heavyweight and other than the entrepreneur chucking endless cash at it, I'd ordinarilly back a team of city-trained Jersey lawyers to prevail over an entrepreneur playing in a world he doesn't know as well as he thinks he does.

How does Jack's Will read in the circumstances of the club potentially being jiggered and needing bailing out if Hughes goes if Hughes staying is fixable with a budget? There is a potent question of what Jack would have done in the current circumstances and the people who knew him the closest in his business affairs are bound to be asking themselves the same question.

What happens if Rovers decide they could trust Mark Bowen to step up to manage? Hughes came with his team to Ewood, would he go to the lion's den of Newcastle on his own?

Top and bottom of this, we are talking Newcastle United.

They have never done anything slickly and professionally and they are unlikely to change the ingrained culture on this one either. The culture has clearly infected Ashley/Mort and Ashley's declaration of abandonning the terrace for the board room shows at least he has recognised that. But whether he can put up a convincing case minutes after a personal conversion remains to be seen.

Hughes is a lot closer to the door than he has been at any previous point in the past 4 years but his going through it is by no means certain.

If Hughes did end up going to Newcastle, and the replacement manager turned out to be fat Sam, I'm afraid Rovers would be getting my season ticket back in the post because I would never watch them again

Both very good points...I sense Hughes is playing a card here in order to try and drag something out of the board moneywise.

As for a possible replacement should he go I see no reason as to why Mark Bowen shouldn't be offered the job.

I'm nervous with all the speculation but I'm not panicking just yet.

Because we'd be as stupid as Bolton, Wigan and countless other teams who thought promoting the assistant would continue the good work of the last manager. I'm hoping we learnt our lessons with Harford.

Regardless of Hughes Guardian the headline, Louise Taylor spins in every direction

Mike Ashley favoured Hughes and was dissuaded by Kemsley.

Newcastle examining several CVs in a shortlist.

Shearers people are in negotiations and Shearer has said he'd only go as number 2 to Keegan, otherwise he's got to be the boss.

So Hughes would have two ghosts on his shoulder; Kemsley who eventually got Jol sacked and Shearer. Sparky going for a knighthood before he gets the ManU job with those odds stacked against him!

What that article re-enforces is that Williams and Ashley have crossed swords before over the club shop so they are familiar with each other's negotiating styles. Whilst Rovers got a completely dud retail outlet out of the deal, we also got a phenomenal amount of cash on a long term basis which must be losing SWI a small fortune.

I think its rather unfair to determine his possible ability for the job alongside the likes of Lee and Hutchings. As for Harford he wasn't short of previous managerial experience and was hardly a youngun.

Bowen has served a useful apprenticeship and would be a worthy candidate should the job become vacant.

Won't matter much as Sparkys staying  ...who am I kidding I can't sleep.

If the worst comes to the worst, we should look at ambitious, aspiring managers of the ilk of Newell &/or Grayson, who also know the club from the inside. Regarding a steady hand to keep the ship on an even keel for a while, Peter Reid is available & might do a job for a couple of years. As for Allardyce: don't think we need another manager that's under investigation for alleged dodgy transfer dealings by Lord Stevens.
