Just heard from a normally very good source who works in the game that it is looking more and more like he's off to Newcastle. I just hope we can delay it long enough that he can't take half the 1st team with him...

Is that from the Blackburn end or the Newcastle end though?

Until Newcastle make an approach i'm not sure about it, Ashley said he wants to bring the fun times back to the club, if true i'm not sure Hughes would be his man.

It's all talk about Keegan up here at the minute, lets hope they go down that road

Just a thought.

How did Sky TV know to have a cameraman and a reporter at Glasgow airport early today to get that 'accidental' interview with Keegan?

I think Sky are trying to push Keegan and Shearer as a double act...and one of their head guys is a huge Shearer fan.

And, for that matter, how did the 'Shearer would take the Toon job' story break on their programme on Friday night.

There's some shenanigans going on here.

The idiotic reporter Alan Oliver is back on tv live with a headline stating that Shearer WILL take the job although there is a half page photo of Mark HUGHES !!

Oliver said Shearer wants the job...slight difference.

See above.

There is definitely a campaign among some Geordie media men to get Shearer the job. Possibly with Keegan.

Oliver just said 'I haven't a clue' which is about the truest thing he has ever said.

Nicko, have you seen the alleged pic of Alves at the Riverside. Football365 have it.

I know you had an article about it the other day, did his contract dispute get sorted? Would seem he would be a good signing for them.

Looks like him.

It is him.

Boro will try and get him a work permit - and hope that he fact he signed a paper with AZ Alkmaar will somehow go away.

The game has gone in all areas, by the way.

Is this going to be another mikel situation with a payoff for AZ? Disgraceful that players/clubs can sign contracts and agree deals, then just back out of them for cash.

I find that article quite funny. It sounds like Rigters thinks he can tell us whether we sell him or loan him. :rover: Having seen him against cov i don't think he is worth keeping but rovers staff rate him so maybe loan swap him with Charlton for Faye.

Lee Grooby on the official message board has just written saying that Ashley was never personally involved with the SWI negotiations with Rovers on shirts, club or shop and he doubts Ashley has ever been to Ewood- even when Newcastle played here a few weeks ago.

That puts a huge hole in the credibility of those "Hughes is Ashley's real first choice" which the story about Ashley bering impressed by the Ewood set-up accompanied.

There is an alternative view to all this and I don't think it's been said. Hughes is in an embarrassing position. For whatever reason, he refuses to rule out the possibility of moving to St James' Park, - in the same way he did when the Spurs job became available. His reasons for taking this stance may not necessarily be because he wants the job, - we don't know. It could simply be the Man Utd upbringing in him.

However, if it was a player staying non committal, some of us would help him through the door. Managers would always say that if a player wasn't committed to a club, he was better off moving.

Why should it be any different with a manager?

I'm usually a bit doom and gloom about these things but something doesn't feel right about this and I'm not sure Hughes will leave at all. I think he's playing a very good game in order to sort himself out personally and the team with extra funds.

You can look at it this way - Hughes signed a new deal in November but if the likes of Redknapp is only on £800k per year and Moyes on less than that, then Hughes will be in that bracket.. and Newcastle are offering £5m a year, you'd forgive Hughes for saying to the Rovers board that he could earn more money managing a less-successful club and that they need to pay him more money (and give him some transfer funds) if they want him to stay.

It could well be a tactic for him to try and get the board to release some funds, especially after these comments last week:

Fingers crossed that Shearer and Keegan get the gig.

I've just watched the Rovers World post match Hughes interview and he didn't sound like a man who is about to leave. He consistently used "we" and "us" when referring to the future and how he wanted to push us on. When asked about the Newcastle speculation and if he was bored of it, he went quite coy and his phone rang (his wife). He always leaves that seed of doubt but he looked happier than in interviews on sky.

That interview was done on Friday when he thought Harry Redknapp was getting the job...

I will be gutted if Hughes Leaves! And I think if they come calling, then there is a very good chance (after yesterdays interviews) that he would take a chance at Newcastle.

He obviously believes that he can be a success at any job and unfortunatly I think he would be swayed by the large amounts of cash on offer for players.

IF Hughes goes then il be gutted, as will be most and our Board must do everything in their power to persuade him to stay - simple as that. I hope JW has convinced him in their meeting this morning that this is the place to stay for the next 2 seasons.

I just hope this doesn't drag on, if newcastle are going to make a move then get on with it because all this speculation will unsettle the players as well as everyone else at the club.

I'm sure it will affect potential signings as well because they won't want to join us if they think the manger is going to leave.

but you have seen the press conference where he was asked real questions... ;)

Speaking of real questions any more interest in our saviour Jason Roberts? That goal can't have done any damage.

Also any more on Koumas or is that still waiting for Brucey to get an answer from Brum on Kapo?
