The quotes attributed to Ashley over the weekend about it being "time for him to take his shirt off and enter the boardroom" make me believe that he has been listening to the barcodes, (don't ask me why ) and that he feels that only Shearer and/or Keegan would be the only way for him to please the fans if/when he fails to get the "big name" he wants!

I also wonder if your source is the trying to get the "story" into the media even more so than the coverage on Sky <_<

Just seen Keegans interview on Sky again and he seemed to be content with discussing the job up until the Shearer co-op question arose.

Any chance of Bentiez getting a look in? B)

WITH RESPECT, I WAS THERE...AND EVERY OTHER NEWSPAPER SEEMS TO HAVE NOTICED THE SAME.

Also with respect, journalists are paid to make the most of a story. Any refusal to rule it out would be seen as him wanting it to a red top jounalist. Afterall "Sparky happy at Rovers" won't sell as many papers as "Sparky wants Toon job". I'm willing to bet that even if he did say that he directly say that didn't want it the papers would spin it anyway.

Besides, if you use Newsnow for Roevsr stories they seem to be split 50/50 on Hughes' comments with nearly all the sensationalist papers linking him away and all the more grounded media saying he's happy at Rovers.

THERE NEVER WAS A NUMBER TWO CHOICE...SPARKY KNEW THAT REDKNAPP WAS THE ONE AND ONLY. YOU RULE YOURSELF OUT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GO.

He was the bookies' number 2, and now he is the bookies' number 1 and that is all that has changed. I am assuming that there has been no contact from Newcastle in which case Hughes shouldn't know anything other than speculation. That speculation was there on Friday and it's here now.

Unless Sparky has very close ties to the barcodes' management how does he know who they have as number 1, 2 or 3 choice?

THAT IS PLAIN DAFT.

I am used to papers assuming that players would trade Ewood for a bigger club and making a story just from this assumption. I think Hughes' name gets mentioned a lot because some people assume that he would trade little old Blackburn for big Man City, Spurs or Newcatle just because it seems "logical" to want to manage a "bigger" club. If Hughes sees us as more than little old Blackburn I could see why it would frustrate him to be constantly linked away.

HE KNEW THERE WERE OTHER PEOPLE LINED UP FOR THOSE TWO JOBS...RIGHT NOW NEWCASTLE HAVE NO PLAN B.

Again where does all this knowledge of other clubs come from. Hughes seems to know exactly what the boards of Toon, City and Spurs are thinking according to you? All Hughes should know is speculation and book makers odds on these matters, none of which are enough to start talking your way into or out of jobs.

SPARKY HAPPY AT ROVERS WAS IN THE MIRROR ON SATURDAY, SO THAT KIND OF FLATTENS YOUR POINT. HE DUCKED THE BIG QUESTION ON SUNDAY. ACCEPT IT.

PERHAPS YOU SHOULD READ THE LET AND THE VERBATIM INTERVIEW AGAIN.

I THINK I POINTED OUT TWO DAYS AGO THAT THE AGENT DOING REDKNAPP'S DISCUSSIONS WAS ALSO VERY CLOSE TO YOUR OWN MANAGER.

YOUR MANAGER IS A VERY BRIGHT AND WELL-CONNECTED GUY. HE KNEW ALL ABOUT MAN CITY AND SPURS AND WHAT WAS GOING ON. I WOULD THINK THAT IS BECAUSE HE HAS HIS FINGER ON THE PULSE. AND THAT IS ALSO WHY HE HAS KEPT THE DOOR OPEN TO NEWCASTLE TOO...WHEN HE HAD THE CHANCE TO SHUT IT.

If Mark Hughes has no intention of leaving then I can only see on reason that he would say "Its not up to me" He would say this because he has told the board he needs more money and if he doesn't get it he will look for further backing elsewhere.

Or it could be that he just signed a new contract where the first 2 years aren't rolling. Therefore he may be saying that if the board don't want him to leave he won't.

All the papers are jumping on the "never say never" line (which by the way he has said in the past by admitting he would like top manage clubs he's played for) but not many are picking the but about this not being up to him.

If he is being sincere then I can't see the board letting him go.

If the transcript in the LETs right he didn't say that anyway. He said "never say"

From some anon on 606, anything in this nicko?

There is a three man list. That list is Mark Hughes, Steve Coppell and Kevin Keegan.

Keegan will be approached this week and they hope to appoint him by the weekend.

I'm a Gooner btw..... I have no agenda, just a mere passing interest and a few decent contacts.

He is now the first choice.... and if Newcastle are asking him back can you imagine Keegan... a character for whom heart rules head, saying no?

"When you do that with footballers like he said about Leeds; and when you do things like that about a man like Stuart Pearce. I'm I, I, I've kept really quiet, but I'll tell you something: he went down in my estimation when he said that - we have not resorted to that. But I'll tell ya - you can tell him now, he'll be watching it - we're still fighting for this title, and he's got to go to Middlesbrough and get something, and... and I'll tell you honestly, I will love it if we beat them - LOVE IT!."

It's a no brainer. What on earth do they want Mark Hughes for?

Which player is getting the ban then?

I'm not saying anything as I don't know if the player I've been told is 100% true... but I heard about the players problem earlier on today... but I'm not sure if it's him who's been banned...

Thats why I was asking Nicko if I'm correct about the club he plays for...

No approach.

Nice to see Williams coming out and stating that they haven`t had an approach, and why would he want to go anyway ? Don`t think Williams would come out and say something like that, if he thought there was a chance to have egg on his face, so to speak !

I will respect and admire Hughes all the more, if he does rule himself out of the job, and if he is approached, i will be p133ed off at the board for sanctioning it !

Lets not play any guessing games. I've already put out one warning about this already and at least 1 messageboard has been closed down due to legal action as people were incorrectly named. I've also heard rumours from more than 1 club.

He said: "It's the same for a player as it is for a manager I guess - a manager wants to coach the biggest and best he can. I think Mark Hughes, no disrespect to Blackburn, has got the potential to coach a top Premier League or European club."

Guess who? Captain Fancashtic.

From Setanta.

I thought that'd be the case, thats why I didn't mention the players name.
