nicko Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Nicko, surely this speculation won't be helping us in our efforts for new signings? I know things were quiet anyway (before Sam was sacked)..... The truth is there is not much money for the manager to spend. That's one of the reasons why he has an eye on the exit door. I have to say I don't blame him for that. The two 'live' targets from what I can gather are Koumas, the Bulgarian striker and Faye on loan. Koumas wants to come, obviously to play for the boss. If he left for Newcastle that would hit the fence. The Bulgarian striker would, justifiably, be a little puzzled just now. Faye may or may not be up to the job. I don't think it would matter who was in charge. The Newcastle talk isn't disrupting that badly because there is not much to disrupt.

nicko Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Souey then? I hope so. I would like to want my country to win again...and with a bit of a snarl and a swagger. There will no doubt be the usual whingers, but compare his record to these guys: Tommy Burns...remember him at Reading? Billy Davies...boss of the worst Premier League squad in history. Mark McGhee..don't mention Brighton. George Burley...still can't organise a defence. Pass the port!
EwoodGlory Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Souey is miles ahead of the others, imagine of much passion he could install in an international team, quite frighting really. I wonder if he would come back here
LeftWinger Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Billy Davies...boss of the worst Premier League squad in history. Mark McGhee..don't mention Brighton. George Burley...still can't organise a defence. Pass the port! I'd take all 3 of those over Souey! Davies - took a terrible squad into the Prem remember! McGhee - Decent club record Burley - Ipswich into Europe in first season in Prem
Nelsta Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Is this the same Souness that slagged of the scotish national team and siad the current Scotish generation of footballers is the worse they have ever produced?
Tim Southampton Rover Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 How come Kenny Dalglish isn't in the running for the Scotland job? Surely his record in managerial positions speaks for itself.
EwoodGlory Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I'd take all 3 of those over Souey! No chance, he did a brilliant job here, shame it seemed to go a bit sour in the end, he should be remembered for getting us promoted, winning a cup and European qualification. We played some really good and attractive football under him, shame he left, then Bazza did. If they stayed we could have done well.
Rover down South Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I'd take all 3 of those over Souey! Davies - took a terrible squad into the Prem remember! McGhee - Decent club record Burley - Ipswich into Europe in first season in Prem McGhee took Brighton into the championship with absolutley no money for buying players......granted he didn't keep them there long!! but that was an achievement to get them there. They had a funny song for him which ended "drinking pints of whiskey Mark McGhee"
LeftWinger Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 We played some really good and attractive football under him, shame he left, then Bazza did. If they stayed we could have done well. He did a good job - but to suggest it was a shame he left is ridiculous! It was a miracle we got compo for him - before he was sacked!
EwoodGlory Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Still think he would of turned it around, there was time.
LeftWinger Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Still think he would of turned it around, there was time. We'd just come off the back of a terrible season - when he picked "that" team against WBA in first home game of season. He'd lost the plot by that point. His reign of us what about 14 months too long - before that I admit - he did a superb job.
EwoodGlory Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 He was my hero when I was a kid watching him player manage Rangers, supposed i'm a bit biased.
Dunnfc Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Nicko - You can be our next manager if Hughsie goes. My brothers mate whos cousins dad was told by his wife who was told by the postman who was told by his boss who was told by NICKO that Hughes will be staying haha Souey was good for us but ended up losing it when he ran out of money and played matteo left wing lol. Billy Davies should get the Scotland job because his post match talks are brilliant! It was men against boys out there
Jan Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 For Scotland- Anyone but Souness. Preferably McGhee. Souness' time has passed (thank god). And as for him coming back here- thank god the Board have more sense than you lot. The only way I'd want him back here is when they sprinkle part of his ashes on every ground he managed at.
American Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I must admit, that in meeting Janice she is a very nice lady, but I'd still love it if GS became manager of Scotland just to get her goad.
BiggusLaddus Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Still think he would of turned it around, there was time. He may well have prevented relegation that season if left to it, but we were going backwards very quickly and there was no way he would have turned that around. Although the board deserve a lot of criticism during that period IMO. Assuming that because transfer fees had cooled down a bit for a bit that £17m was always going to scare people of was a big mistake, but even worse was allowing our record signing to leave on a free transfer 2.5yrs after joining the club.
Dave S Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I can't be doing with all of this friend-of-mine's mate-who-does-his-dog's-hair routine. It's now over to Mike Ashley to make the next move. Until he sorts out the Shearer situation the job is impossible for any other manager. It makes me howl that the Geordies want Shearer...it's like Spurs fans screaming for Hoddle. And look what happened there. IF - and it's a big IF - your manager does go then that's just the way it goes. I can think of several who could keep the club in the top half on a limited budget...and maybe even win something. The Shearer situation must be addressed. As soon as a new manager has a bad run of form the spectre of Shearer appears. I honestly think it would be a good idea to get it over with. Give Shearer the job, a populist appointment, if/when it doesn't work then the next manager will have a fresh start without the rantings of the Geordie Shearer brigade.
tony gale's mic Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 it's looking like a dead heat 50-50 whether hughes will go or not at the moment...
Mozzer Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 nicko..just wondering if theres anything in matthew etherington to blackburn??? someone on the other thread mentioned it was in the standard...
BiggusLaddus Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 it's looking like a dead heat 50-50 whether hughes will go or not at the moment... The longer it drags on for, the better it will be for him to leave. If Mark Hughes treats us to any more non-committal interviews like the one before the Bolton game then it will start to sour things between him and the fans IMO.

IMO we will know almost certainly one way or another in the next two days anyway. ashley will be back from hong kong tomorrow morning and i'm sure he'll be wanting to put the wheels in motion as soon as he can.
USABlue Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 It makes me howl that the Geordies want Shearer...it's like Spurs fans screaming for Hoddle. No, more like a Scot wanting him for England manager, now that made me howl You are not suggesting he is not up to the Newcastle job after you backed him so much for the England post are you Nicko?
USABlue Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Extract from tomorrow's edition of The Times. Seems like speculative reporting. Blackburn and Williams are eager to retain the services of a man who has lifted them into the upper half of the Barclays Premier League, they are unlikely to stand in his way if and when Newcastle make their move. For his part, Hughes is said to be keen to embrace a new challenge and is privately intrigued by the prospect of working on Tyneside. He is not, however, set on leaving. Huh?? What the hell are they trying to say exactly.
USABlue Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 The Coyle Man is not one of the five. Remember, he has his first mission to complete. Yeah but what I want to know is if Sparky buggars off to Newcastle, as it seems he will, will Coyle Man be dropping his CV off at Ewood on his way to work. Now THAT would be class. Sparky's off, I can feel it in me water.
thenodrog Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 We played some really good and attractive football under him, shame he left, then Bazza did. If they stayed we could have done well. You must be stark staring bonkers. Those two stiffed BRFC big time.
