philipl Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 As at 16.15 GMT, the word Hughes does not feature once on the Newcastle newsnow page.
garnersfags Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I wouldn't argue with that. One point that was overlooked after the Bolton win was the lack of pace in the Roque-Benni partnership is becoming obvious. Jason Roberts looked good because he ran at people, if he did that all of the time he would play every week. Lita wouldn't be a bad shout. I think we need to understand that Roberts 'does' do that most, if not all, the time. He has started ONE game all season. He has only been injured for a few weeks. There seem to be many myths abounding about him. He may not be the answer but we need to give him a chance before writing him off. McCarthy out. Roberts in. Any chance of a vote on how we all feel about the last statement?
Mozzer Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 with everything that happened in the summer with mcarthy-i got the feeling he didnt want to be at the club..hes been pretty poor this season-bar about 4 games..its been about 2months since he last put in a good performance.. jason roberts should be given a chance-especially with mcarthy underperforming.. roberts offers us something we dont have in cruz and mcarthy-geniune pace..
they_think_its_all_rover Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Hughes seems focused on Rovers here; talk of the future; http://www.rovers.premiumtv.co.uk/page/New...1215536,00.html
philipl Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 All's well with the world- nothing''s happening so we are back to bitching about Benni!
SAS Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I think we need to understand that Roberts 'does' do that most, if not all, the time. He has started ONE game all season. 1864roverite Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 For me the worst thing about Roberts or was I should add, was when clean through against Brum he fluffed his shot completely and injured himself in the process when the keeper showed him 3/4 of the goal !! I accept he is fast and powerful but his finishing stats go against him.

Hasta Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 The only reason I am dubious about Koumas is because if Hughes really thought he was good enough we'd have made a move before. (that's dubious about being good enough, not whether were interested) When Sparky first took over at Ewood wasnt Koumas rotting on loan at Cardiff? Surely he'd have been quite cheap then. His value only shot back up after he was back in favour at the Baggies. Edit - and to back up SAS above Roberts' finishing is suspect but I still reckon if he had started as many games as Benni he'd have scored more than 3 from open play.
USRoverME Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Nicko: re Johnson and the permit, I'm not sure. It may be an issue, what are the rules work a permit these days? He got a good run of games in under Arena in the WC qualis before 2006. Would 31 caps in ~3 years before turning 24 count? I was amazed that the MLS rejected selling Twellman at almost 3 mil USD (with some incentives) but apparently the new contract makes him more expensive I guess. However, unless it was re-negotiatied in England, I'd have thought a goal poacher like him with his bit of class (on less than $8,000 per week) would be attractive. Not sure exactly. Then again New England wants him (and frankly needs him) to be their man and lead their line...
Lurid Coat Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I would have moved heaven and earth for Steve Coppell. He's probably taking a break when he steps down as Reading manager, though. But I agree, he's a very talented manager that I'd love to see at Rovers if Hughes went.
modes98 Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 so are mccarthys ATM considering about half his goals have been pens Roberts is a lot like Kuqi. Granted he does a good job when he comes on against tired defences but given a start i don't think he would have the same affect. Most of his goals have a slight bit of fortune about them. He struggles with Barn Door Syndrome more often than not. What is his career assist level like? I can imagine that he sets up plenty of chances but never quite scores enough for the impact he appears has. Benni has been well under what we expect from him this season but i still would prefer him starting with Cruz and then Roberts or Derbs coming on and hitting the tired centre backs with 10-20mins to go.
herbergeehh Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I agree with you there, Christian, but Roberts' strength and pace can make a difference the first 60 minutes too I think. He is an impact player, but so can Benni be (re: Arsenal) and I really think Roberts will demand to leave if he is benched against Boro. Not that he should be able to force himself to the teamsheet like that, but it is what will happen in my opinion.
USRoverME Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Another thought... what happened to the costa rican kids that were supposed to come over in December.... did that ever happen. that young attacking midfielder might have had some promise...
nicko Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Another thought... what happened to the costa rican kids that were supposed to come over in December.... did that ever happen. that young attacking midfielder might have had some promise... Celso Borges - the very good midfielder - has been playing for Costa Rica's under-23s and is captain of the side at the age of 19. He is obviously a good one, but the work permit problems may be curbing Blackburn's enthusiasm. Likewise Kendall Waston, who now seems to be playing as a striker in the under-23s, has troubles getting into the country. I would presume there is still contact, but it's a bit frustrating when they cannot come in.
unleaded Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Mark Randall Of Arsenal is the player that is Pure quality.............If theres any chance of Rovers grabbing him on loan sparky should snap him up.................The guy is so skillful and very carm and sees the play ahead very quickly...........Ideal player.................What do you say Nicko?
CAPT KAYOS Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Lita wouldn't be a bad shout. Mentioned previously some time ago on here.... would also come at a decent price I presume Certainly made a difference to Reading when he came on against earlier this season.

nicko Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Huge news. Newcastle United are talking to more than Houllier, that is for sure. I have the name of a top boss they have approached and may even be meeting tonight. Forgive me, but I will have to keep this for the morning. It tells me this whole race is far from over...
Tim Southampton Rover Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Hitzfeld with Klinsmann stepping up early
Tony Diamond Inc Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Chris Casper has just become available!!!

There maybe clues in Nicko's writing here, for one he says they have approached the manager and not his club, a top boss, surely we can work this out, how many top bosses can be available that speak english?
