Regarding the Newcastle job, there is an uncomfortable silence for my liking.

I am still not relaxed about the situation, and probably won't be until they have actually appointed a manager.

The media have been going into over-drive over all of this, and it is easy to think Newcastle have dropped their interest in Hughes. I think they are just looking and evaluating all of their options, putting a plan into place, before they make their next official approach.

However, one thing remains constant. Newcastle are interested in appointing our manager and by the looks of things, he wants to go.

The Times have postulated that Newcastle were so embarassed by the 'arry fiasco (being bent double on wages and compensation only for Pompey to finesse them after the deal had been splashed all over the media), Newcastle are currently only considering people not currently managing other clubs.

The concurrence of the sacking of BFS with the transfer window potentially makes the legitimate claimable losses for a Manager tempted away during the narrow January window far higher than just the value of the Manager's contract.

Even if Hughes doesn't go (and I would say we only start worrying if Deschamps and probably ANO say "no" making Sparky 5th choice at best), Rovers have probably lost a week of the Window through those dumb barcodes distracting the club.

The midfielder's agent Willie McKay...

How many players do this guy work for?? The midfielder is Faye by the way.

I go to bed with a big hope you are right, Philipl, you and the Times. Or better yet, let them make us an offer, make the board donate an extra 5 millions for Hughes to spend in the transfer market, which again makes Sparky turn the barcodes down.

Nicko, is there any chance that Hughes, the clever manger that he is, is playing a number of games (ala Sir alex) His vagueness when questioned about the job could be in order to get what he wants without undermining his position at the club i.e.

1) Trying to push the board into giving him the funds to buy players

2) Taking the heat off the team for recent bad performances by stoking the fires

3) Raising the profile of himself & our club by getting us on the backpage every day (in the eyes of potential targets & fans!)

After everything calms down he will turn around & say he is happy here, still has a job to finish & pulls off a huge signing!?!

Just a thought but it is realistic, knowing hughes past!?!

I THINK HE KNOWS THERE ARE VERY LIMITED FUNDS, SO THAT IS THE REALITY HE FACES AND WHY HE IS HAPPY TO LET OTHER CLUBS KNOW THAT HE COULD BE READY TO MOVE ON...

2) Taking the heat off the team for recent bad performances by stoking the fires

NO, I DON'T THINK THAT FITS. HIS MODD WAS DIFFERENT - HE WAS MORE RELAXED - WHEN HE THOUGHT REDKNAPP WAS GETTING NEWCASTLE.

3) Raising the profile of himself & our club by getting us on the backpage every day (in the eyes of potential targets & fans!)

HE CAN'T MANIPULATE THAT AND I DON'T THINK IT'S HIM OR HIS STYLE TO TRY.

I THINK THERE IS PROBABLY LESS MONEY TO SPEND RIGHT NOW THAN THERE HAS BEEN BEFORE...BUT IT WOULD BE NICE TO BE WRONG ON THAT ONE.

The Times story I have just found is very dull, a mish-mash of agency stuff and with no insight.

Deschamps is definitely talking to them and to be fair he has a great CV...but very little personality. I hear an intriguing name as his possible assistant who would make it a sexy ticket.

However there will be others, so don't relax just yet.

But I can't see them going for Mark Hughes unless they plan to offer him the job. There is surely no way that he would have an interview. It would ruin him at Rovers if he did - and was then overlooked.

Etherington is playing with West Ham just now. There is no way they would let him come up for training...why would Rovers need to?

I think somebody is way off track with that info.

Nicko,

Is there any news on a takeover at the moment ?

I wish.

There is no news or progress as far as I am aware.

The sadness is that the current lack of spending money proves that the time is right for someone to come in and take over...but all we have had is people coming up short and not delivering.

It's easy to be critical of those who have flirted with the idea and I have not been, but I do think that potential bidders have missed an opportunity - and are still missing it.

This is a season where investment could take the club into the 'free money' of the Champions League. I felt that would be the case last summer and it definitely is now.

Man City do not have the money, Everton do not have the money, Aston Villa have not spent, so a cash-rich Rovers could have cracked it and won the pools.

Shame.

I will, but I would be absolutely amazed. He is a proven player...why go on trial?

The Cobham Chronicle?? Romford Recorder?!

I'm starting to think that your 300+ posts on this thread are all a p!ss take!

Did the Romford Recorder carry the ruse about Ginola and Houllier being brought in to save Northern Rock, but Alistair Darling is going to nationalise NUFC and put Tony Blair in charge?

i cant see him coming to train aswell..he is a proven player as you say..

im going off the other forum(rovers main site), and someone off there was saying its in them papers..

are we signing lance davids by the way-hes away at the african cups of nations tho isnt he

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11676_3050021,00.html

I'm not sure Lance Davids would make a big difference. The fact that there is an interest in Faye on loan tells me that he is probably favourite for that place in the squad.

I know it's not exactly inspiring news, but it's what it is.

The only plus is that your top-four rivals are not making signifcant captures either.

Yet!

Well many apologies. Has Google made it to Blackburn? I need to know because I'm going to move from London to Blackburn in a fortnight, and if Google doesn't work there I may have to reconsider.

The Romford Recorder is full of Blackburn transfer gems this week, but the top football story involves ... erm ... Romford. Where the refs are as unpopular as they are at Ewood, judging by what their manager has to say ...

Reed fumed: "The referee played a major part in the game, it was scandalous.

"If we'd got the penalty and scored it, Bradley Jones wouldn't have gone committing a needless foul for a second booking to get himself sent off.

"The referee totally lost the plot and it's down to him that we're out of the cup. It was very disappointing - I've never experienced anything like it as a player or manager."

Boro host Stansted tomorrow and Eton Manor on Tuesday.

(here)

Who knows what might be in the Cobham Chronicle ... personally I don't even think it exists. I'd stick to the Bank Top Bugle if I were you Mozzer - you can't go wrong with that.
