I find it hard to believe we have NO money for transfers, wasn't it less than a month ago, on this thread, we were supposed to be interested in signing Anelka? How were we supposed to afford him then?

We don't need to be signing LOADS of players anyway, just to fill in where needed, i.e, Right Back, Centre Midfield & possibly Left Mid if we can offload Ped for a decent fee.

We are lucky enough to have top quality players like Friedel, Samba, Bentley, Reid, Santa Cruz & McCarthy (although he needs to start performing)

Other clubs would love to have these players in their side. We are just missing those few final pieces of the puzzle.

One thing that annoys me a bit & that is if you go back on this thread to the summer, we were all so against McCarthy (Chelsea) & Pedersen (Spurs or Liverpool) leaving, for what would of been considerable fee's no doubt, if only we knew then what we know now!!

Makes you think, Diarra, Sidwell etc. would of been realistic targets now maybe??

probably reliant fully on a big money offer for McCarthy and the sale of savage

reid is our best central midfielder when fit, why would we even consider getting rid of him...

Have you not considered that it might not be our decision mozzer. Maybe Reids informed the club that he will not be signing another contract when his current one runs out. Reidy might be just another Le saux / Barry Ferguson who stays just long enough after a serious injury to get his form back and attract buyers.

A point Tugay4England and myself have made on here. Buy cheap, develop and sell dear. We have very limited options for making money. Becoming a selling club is prob the best one.

As I have mentioned before, no need for complete panic yet. A lot of clubs have yet to bring in any players so far this month. Hughes actually said on Friday, do not expect to see any arrivals this week.

What I find worrying, is the comments coming from Hughes recently. He keeps banging on the same theme, how hard and frustrating he is finding it in the transfer window due to having a lack of resources. It does seem to me that in the past he found it challenging, but maybe now he is finding it an impossible task. People who are saying we must sell our best players to raise money should understand and realise this won't happen under Hughes.

I know it is hardly a surprise that Hughes has made these comments (because it is true). However, the frequency of them makes me think that his time here is coming to an end.

It isn't that long since he demonstrated his commitment by signing a new long term contract is it Gordon?

I think it was the summer before last at the same time Neill was messing us about "keeping his options open"

Agreed john, Sparky seems to have changed tack completely recently.

When he joined us and up until recently he's been very bullish, stressing how targets have maybe been set too low in the past to make people look better.

All we've heard recently is how we've no money and are competing in different markets.

Very disappointing he's being put in a position whereby he's having to say these things.

How was saying "I'm not going to sign a new deal here" messing us about? Hughes was the one who decided to keep him the extra 6 months because he needed him.

Stop the crusade, Torquemada.

I'm not questioning Reid's loyalty as there seems to be no reason to. Complete hearsay and speculation.

Didn't Reid sign that new contract when he knew he had a serious back injury?

Just a quick word on Steven Reid.

Wigan were looking at him - there is absolutely no suggestion he wants out.

Let's nip that one in the bud right now.

No word on Levski letting the striker go, I find that unlikely although it would be a good result for Rovers.

From what I hear the lad would not go straight into the side just now anyway.

He didn't say that, he said he was keeping his options open.

If he had have done, Hughes wouldn't have handed him the captain's armband in an attempt to get him to stay.

Precisely. Reids 20 months into a 4 year deal. He still has value. Be bloody difficult selling him in another 18 months.
