So Nicko, have I got this right? Santa Cruz had a representative discussing terms with Rovers? Wouldn't that need a go-ahead from his current employers?

I'd have thought Bayern would be only too pleased to get him off the wage bill given his recent record for them.

A good shout, but he'll be too expensive for us, I'm sure Boro will need £10m+ to let him leave, and that struggle is before actually trying to agree terms with the player.

Yes, Rev, but if the price is around £4m, surely they would need some sort of bid or contact from Rovers before letting him speak to anyone?

However, Nicko - have you heard anything about a retail outlet with multi-storey car park being built on the carpark of the Blackburn End should the American Consortium take over the club? That is a rumour i heard in my local over the weekend. I do not believe it myself.

Let's hope it's a suitably tasteful development with premium outlets which sit comfortably side by side next to such a prestigious brand as Sports Soccer.

We don't want them lowering the tone of the place.

do you seriously think rovers haven`t got `big aspirations`?granted rovers finished mid-table last season but we had an awful first half of the season due to injuries.it was very rare we could play the same 11 players two games on the trot until january, yet we only finished 8 points off the spuds!

i think a lot of rovers fans under-estimate how good a side we are/can be.

Where in the hell did I say that? In order to turn us down for Spurs we have to make an offer for him.

I reckon we'll offer 45k, take it or leave it
To quote youandwhosearmy

what makes you say that?
That's a serious wage! Especially on a player with a dodgy record.

Wouldn't that need a go-ahead from his current employers?

Yes ;) I doubt that's an issue even with no transfer fee being agreed, sounds like they just want rid given all the new talent they have in.

erm post 945 ring a bell? the way you have phrased it you make it sound like defoe wouldn`t swap fighting for a first team place at spuds, as opposed to coming to rovers where he is all but guaranteed a place in the team.if i have mis-interpreted this then please accept my apologies, but imo we aren`t that different to spuds with regards to standards of players and should class ourselves as a top 6 side, who are on a level playing field with spuds career-wise,with trophy winning potential.

I would take Defoe, though in the past I have made no secret of my admiration for Keane Defoe would do, ain't gonna happen.

I think we are all getting a little desperate now, sanctioning paying 45K/week for a player who has really proven nothing in any league let alone the bump and grind of the Prem. Personally I would be happy to go into the season with what we have rather than pay the exhorbitant prices being bandied around now.

If we stay free of long term injuries and all players perform to expectations then there is no doubt in my mind we are a team to be reckoned with.

Again, I said he has stayed at Spurs the last couple of years to fight for his spot. He never turned us down, but I remember him turning down a team or 2 that were mid-table. I said he hasn't swapped fighting for a place at Spuds over an opportunity that we have NEVER even thought of giving him, but he has for other teams.

Apology accepted.

Some news.

I believe an agent in the Roque Santa Cruz deal was over last week, discussing terms with the club. The Paraguayan is looking for around £50,00-a-week.

That woulkd explain why that one has gone quiet over the past few days and why James Beattie's name returned. Everton are looking for a big fee for Beattie despite the fact he has struggled, so that is the hurdle there.

It's proving hard to find a striker at the right price and who is not on silly money.

£5k a week doesn't seem that excessive to me :P

does that mean we will not be after him beacuse of his wage demands

West Ham are reported to be signing Roque Santa Cruz.

This is the third player we have lost to the Egghead. Jim Devine has cost us and Sheffield United horribly (although Lucash was already a goner in all fairness).

There is nothing illegal about agents meeting clubs to discuss possible transfers. It saves time. Rovers now know what Santa Cruz wants, Bayern Munich are also willing to sell at £4.5 million although that may be negotiable. It is better to have all the information as you decide who to go for and whether they want to come.

I saw the West Ham reports too. That is possible because they are selling Marlon Harewood - to Villa now by the looks - and need a replacement. They have the money to pay the fee and the wages if they want.

Manchester City are still major players in this although there are so many names being bandied about there just now that it is hard to tell if THEY know who they want.

The fact that Rovers have spoken to an agent in the middle of it tells me there is still a live interest, but I don't think it is one they want top plunge into.

Beattie is obviously easier to do for many reasons, but that will depend entirely on the price. If Everton want too much it won't happen.

I have not heard about the superstore rumour but I will check into that one. Interesting thought.

I would doubt that Smith rumour.

Man U want cash - and thought they were getting plenty from Middlesbrough. But he does not want to go there.

A lot of other teams wanted to buy him, including Aston Villa, but he likes being a Man U player - even if he is not playing.

It's always possible on August 31, Last Dance at the Disco time, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Has there been any more news on Roberts ? I can't see Fulham signing him now they have got Healy. There was also a suggestion that Roberts may used in a swap deal with Beattie.

if we swap Roberts for Beattie, everton will come out of the deal the better in my view. I would much prefer us to keep Roberts then replace him with Beattie
