guys come on be realistic. i cant see rovers even enquring about defoe. god knows how mcu hspurs value probably around 10 million. which i cant see us forking out. united probably wouldnt sell smith for less than 6 million. he dosent have the best goals scorign record. looks to have lost his goals scoring touch. could be approaching another serious injury. and im pretty sure hes not on sparkys wanted list. so theres no point going on about players who are not going to come and who rovers arent at all interested in

Defoe would be an obvious target BUT only if we were to sell McCarthy imo. Defoe has much quality but his size lets him down somewhat. Jol never seems to have rated him and his career has dipped lately. If I were his agent and the above scenario were to come about I'd offer to bring him here in a wheelbarrow if need be. Hughes and Co could revitalise his career big time.

I suspect he thinks he is better than he is. He started off at Charlton as a youngster, but as they were not big enough for him he moved on as a youth player to WH-I remember seeing him at Ewood and he was certainly better that Ben Burgess. Then on to Spurs, where he doesn't seem to be that highly rated. Was Sven right to take Woolcott last summer? I think he was right to ignore both Bent and Defoe as neither is an obvious England choice.

i totally agree,really players like defoe who are sort of on the verge of playing in the starting 11,but aren`t the first name on the team sheet, would be better coming to rovers to get themselves more noticed with regards to playing for their country.

hopefully stephen warnock should get more of a chance to play for england now he is playing first team footy all the time for rovers. something he would have thought about when he signed for us.

As for being "right" about Beattie, just because we're after him a full year after you said so, doesn't mean you were right at the time.

not pulling rank on it, to be quite honest i had no idea we would be going after him this summer, i was just saying whenit was mentioned last year people were incandescent and saying "we'll never sign him back etc..."

on us being after him, MH does seem to persue his targets over a longer period than most (returns to them e.g jeffers, mccarthy etc...)

on that note, i hear west ham are persuing gudjonnsen and if they dont get him, they'll return for benni.
