I don't really fancy this Cruz for 4 Million, no concrete reason why it just doesn't feel right. I am sure Sparky is smart enough to stay away. Could be a case this season of our Graeme's weeing with the willy we got for the most part.

Some news.

Blackburn sent two scouts - probably the most senior available - to watch Everton at Preston tonight. I think it is fair to assume they were hoping to see Beattie to check on his form and fitness.

The big lad came on early because James Vaughan was injured in the 15th minute.

He didn't do a lot but that has been the case since he joined them. He looks fit enough but needs to move. I think he has lost faith in the style of the team's play and the management have lost belief in him.

The Vaughan injury is a bad one, a dislocated shoulder that will put him out for a month or more...which is a shame as he could be a top player. It is also good and bad news for Rovers.

Everton can't let Beattie go now unless they get a replacement. But the injury may focus David Moyes's mind and make him go out and buy a striker. That would mean spending money - and possibly selling Beattie to raise the cash.

PS - I don't know of any incarnations on any other websites. This was totally unplanned. But it's a good giggle.

I met Egil Ostenstad in the Burton-in-Kendal Services on the M6 (he was standing off-side at the time), but he still didn't fill me with confidence...

He didnt fill you with confidence? Is this because he was filling your car up with petrol :P

Once again, all quiet on the East Lancashire front. Lots of names being banded about but I don't have interest in named individuals... I had never heard of Nelsen or Samba before, but they aren't half bad. I would be delighted if Rigters goes on to become as good as these two, and I would like to see Hughes bring in two or three more unknowns. The problem with signing players like Santa Cruz is that you tend to have inflated expectations of their abilities. I trust that whoever Sparky signs will be right for the club. I was unimpressed by Bentley at first - how glad am I he proved me wrong and became easily our best talent.

Nicko - i agree and disagree with your previous comment about Beattie. He has not done much lately for them but he was their highest scorer one season with 12 goals in all competitions. I know that is not brilliant but with the service we can offer from bentley, bert, gamst and warnock. He could well be a decent addition if the price is right.

your right there, with the quality of delivery that pedersen and bentley have and with the strength to get away from defenders in the box would be good. pretty good in the air to :rover:

i hear everton are also set to sell mcfadden, to derby. that'll probably slow the 'beattie transfer' down even further.

nicko, i dont suppose you have you heard anything regarding claus jensen and ibrahim toraman ?

it's looking like they've not gone further than 'the enquiry stage', at the moment.

From what I hear Zamora is not available. West Ham just sold Harewood and think they need a new player rather than selling another.

On Beattie - I would take a chance if the price was right. But Everton were playing hard to get and will probably play even harder after the Vaughan injury. However if they wanted to fund a big-name buy then Beattie could go.

If you watch the market this summer it is like an old-fashioned 'house chain.' Most clubs only sell when they have a replacement coming in. Like the Barton - Parker - ReoCoker- Davis sequence we had recently.

I believe a new right back is a possibility, but not a priority. If Ooijer fits in there it makes less of a potential problem.

Claus Jensen, a 30 year old midfielder thats been released by Fulham...

(can't see it happening we already have two 30+ midfielders)

Ibrahim Toraman, a right-back that is vice-captain of Besiktas

(can't see him giving up Champions League(?)/Uefa Cup, as a vice-captain to tussle with Bert for the RB position)

personally, i wouldnt mind getting jensen. he wouldnt be a starter, but he would add depth to our midfield - at very little cost. i always maintain that brian kidd thought he was signing jensen, when he bought per frandsen.

on toraman, you never know. premiership is a better standard, both footballing and moneytery wise and ,as well as bert played last season, i still see him as a winger.

agree with u pleasure. he would give us more attacking options than the axe. on a free to. but defiantly not a first team starter maybe could be an option for the bench though. though i also think sparkys happy with his midfield :rover:

nicko, just wanted to ask when u said a new right back is a possiblilty, did u mean you think that we should get another right back or do you mean rovers are looking at another right back :rover:

I think they are looking around for a right back who can also play centre half, a squad man, probably a young one ideally.

Just heard that the Turkish lad is unlikely to be one of those targets.

And he is certainly not being pushed by Tugay.

you may be right , nicko. although..... Toraman is 25 ish and can play CB and RB.

i was being ironic with the tugay comment. although....he might've played in the same turkey side as him.

on another note, you used to be on century fm, on a sunday afternoon, with paddy barclay. have you anything else like that in the pipeline ? it was a very entertaining show.
