I am a Thistle fan but I only get to see them a couple of times a season. So it's a long-distance love affair these days.

If you had seen them lately that's not a bad idea.

Everton and Alan Smith was a pretty intelligent guess.

Maybe people should read the thread fully.

Hahahahaha, some chance, unfortunately. It irritates me too when people ask a question that was answered in the thread. No one seems to bother checking, though (something that's not limited to this messageboard!)

On Alan Smith...

The price is going to be steep. I reckon he might even cost £8 million, just because Man U are [a] holding out for cash to pay for their signings and they just got daft money for Kieran Richardson.

I am not sure he is worth that as he does not score enough goals and may even fancy himself as a midfielder. He is OK, but it's not one to break the bank for.

If Everton want to pay that much, best of luck.

and Bolton are signing a very strange one

If it's Heidar Helguson your talking about, I think given a decent chance and a run in the team he will score quite a few.

Thats who I've heard it is anyway, £1.2m is the fee, not bad I think

Manchester City are making a £10 million bid for Nery Castillo, the Mesican striker at Olympiakos. He is a player, quick and skillful. City have confirmed they are about to put in the offer and I know the Greek club are aware of the interest.

Bolton are signing Heidur Helguson. I don't know how that one come out before the papers. But still... Think that is odd as he is so like Kevin Davies.

And Everton will have a go for Alan Smith, which makes Jasmes Beattie's position interesting if they get their man. At 14 to 1 that's ridiculously good value.

Now that's enough giving away stories for one day.

Good night.

Castillo is as exciting as hell. I'd absolutely love to see him play in our shirt.

Thanks for the PaddyPower link EwoodGlory. I've put a swift fiver on Smith to Everton. Would be a lovely £75 if it happens.

Looks like we wil have a chance to see if he's any good then. Or a Borgetti style let down. Good.

Looking like nico's most recent run of tips is coming true.

Little Fat Sam is compiling a team of Little Fat Sam look-alikes at the Breezeblock.

Alan Smith has reportedly refused a move to Boro for £6m opening up the Everton move if Everton are willing/able to find the dosh (cue Beattie/Rovers?)

Man City reportedly going for Yakubu for £12m (that'sa nice chunk of the £50m out of the way), WHam are reuniting Bowyer, Dyer and Bellamy in the same dressing room- sweet!, whilst there are so many stories around Anelka I think the likelihood of Notlob hanging onto him is dropping fast.

Taking a snap shot of squads right now, I'd say Boro, Man City are deep in the mire, West Ham (Quashie injury lay-off extended as well as Faubert's achilles rupture) and Bolton look weaker than at the season end whilst Sunderland, Wigan and Reading don't look to be in any great shape. Emphasis on how it looks today- plenty of transfer time left.

Most clubs treading water in my opinion- Rovers advantage is they are treading water without having participated in the £280m spending spree. Man U, Chelsea (when they add Drenthe and keep Robben), Liverpool (but lots of ifs there), Fulham and Pompey (particularly squad depth) are the clubs that have advanced.

I would add my voice to those urging Rovers to go for Rossi if Man U are letting him go. Only problem would be is he's not a big brute of a forward.

nicko is the striker man city after jermaine defoe???

on man city forums it says defoe due in carrington tomorrow for medical with a fee of 12million been agreed...

it'd be a major shock if he linked up with sven, after he left him out of the world cup squad.

Damn - fancied putting some money on this - and they've closed the market. Probably took a few large bets from people on here and became suspicious!

The most they would let me bet on smith going to Everton was £10.12

I was going to stick £10 on workmates account this morning, but becuase it was in one of the papers this morning they took the market off.

Suspect I must have been a few mins after you EG! Max it would let me bet was £10.11! If he ends up at Everton, I owe you a pint (or maybe only a half since it was a tenner max ;) ).

He was very good for Charlton and after his mystifying decision to join Fulham he got quite a serious knee injury if I remember right. Then Coleman got sacked...

He didn't actually look that bad coming back from his injury - he scored on his comeback match I think. I've always rated him quite highly, he can take a decent set piece too. maybe those in the game know that his knee isn't up to it anymore?

HE is a rather talented player I think albeit with limitations. Seriously lack of pace!

He is training with Lyngby in Denmark. It is his old club that sold him to charlton. So he has basically been let go by Fulham....
