Some news...

Roque Santa Cruz has dropped the biggest hint yet that he is on the move. He is quoted in Germany as saying this:

"It is hard to imagine staying longer. The club who is buying me wants me to integrate with them as quick as possible. I hope the transfer goes through this week."

Manchester City still have him on a big hit list, we know about the Rovers interest. I understand that Porto and Galatasaray are also in the hunt.

The 'this week' reference sounds a bit optimistic. But he obviously wants to go.

What's up with you? This is the best thread that's ever been on this board and a real coup to have a reknown, working Journo on board. Nicko dosn't have to contribute and probably wont anymore if you keep posting miserable sh 1te like that.

Oh! Well thanks for that Ozzie, but I have to confess that I have never been any good with puzzles. Mainly because I always see them as a waste of time. I know; boring, intolerant, etc, etc.

Optimistic for whom Nicko?

Is this guy really any good? I'm not really into stats on their own but his don't install any confidence and say waste of money first off, but as I don't know anything about him bar what's been said on here (which has not entirely been encouraging) I just don't get why all the 'interest'

Optimistic because it may finally come to a head. I hate it when they drag.

From what I hear Manchester City are still in there, but they have so many balls in the air that it gives Rovers a chance.

The jury is out on the player. He has always had talent but has yet to deliver. If he was as good as he was supposed to be then he would not be going anywhere for £4.5 million. It's a gamble, but they all are.

Anyway the manager fancies him and the chairman has met one of his 'people' - and they are the people who matter in this one.

I hope it gets sorted out fast. Then he comes and we see for ourselves or he goes elswehere and it's 'move on' time.

I think, because of the money involved, that he will probably come to the Premiership. I don;t think Porto will pay a big fee and Galatasaray/Turkey is not the most attractive move for a South American who thinks he should be playing at the top.

IF we do get Santa do think think that Hughsie would automatically drop Roberts for him? Roberts has been our best player at the end of last season/ start of this pre-season. Plus I'd like Derbs and Rigters to get a good chance to play this year. However if Benni got injured / sold then its another matter.

To be fair although we don't strictly need another striker one would be useful as with the Uefa cup etc in the new year/christmas period we will need to rotate. I also suspect that Hughes, although he doesn't want it to happen, is anticipating that there is a possibility that Roberts or McCarthy will leave. And, despite recent poor form, Cruz is proven quality (he was highly rated by pundits and fans alike in Germany until last season). People had their questions about McCarthy, Bellamy and Roberts but Hughes has shown every time his faith was perfectly justified. Cruz could, by previous examples, come in and be outstanding- and unless there was a possibility of that I doubt Sparky would pay 4.5m.

Incidentally Hughes seems to have real belief Derbyshire can play the right wing slot. Jeffers is a goner, but Gallagher must be for the chop too if a decent offer come in.

Well Porto should be minted - after all they have sold Anderson and Pepe. (They probably have at the very minimum 20million Euros from their sales).

I do agree that Turkey isn't the most attractive place to play, but they do have some decent players, they can pull off some notable transfers (e.g. Anelka).

Santa Cruz has told the media about his preferred move to the Premiership already, so unless City can make him choose them with money - our Euro qualification and the chance to play upfront with McCarthy should really secure this for us. The money is an issue though, let's hope Sparky can persuade him.
