Manc Rover Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Only seen the guy play twice but by the looks of things, what a great signing by Rovers. We can trust Hughes to spot a player and to get a 23yr old Dutch international for peanuts is unbelievable. Hopefully a great addition to our young and exciting crop of players and with Derbs, our future front line looks great already. C'mon you blues!

dave birch Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Notwithstanding Hughes' ability to pick a winner, If this guy is so good, why isn't he still at Ajax? I hope he turns out to be a gem, but Ajax don't let too many slip through their fingers.
neekoy Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Notwithstanding Hughes' ability to pick a winner, If this guy is so good, why isn't he still at Ajax? I hope he turns out to be a gem, but Ajax don't let too many slip through their fingers. Maybe he is a late developer? He might have left because he thought his future would lack first team opportunites with Van Der Vaart, Babel, Sikora ect
broadsword Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 How do you pronounce his name, is it "Rick-tahs"? Seems an excellent signing. Less than a million, no risk at all given current prices. Could well be the bargain of teh season when you think that Darren Bent went for 16 mill.
Rainmaker Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Notwithstanding Hughes' ability to pick a winner, If this guy is so good, why isn't he still at Ajax? If this Samba-guy is so good, why is he stuck in the Hertha Berlin RESERVES Seriously though, why do people always seem to use this kind of faulty logic when assessing a player?
dave birch Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 It was a question asked in a reasonable manner. Your rather terse comment answered nothing, you twerp. If you can't be civil, shut it. Rigter was brought up through the Ajax youth system. That he's not still there says something to me, even if you are incapable of understanding.
budha Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Notwithstanding Hughes' ability to pick a winner, If this guy is so good, why isn't he still at Ajax? I hope he turns out to be a gem, but Ajax don't let too many slip through their fingers. And if he's so good, why hasn't he been picked up by anyone yet? He's 23 and if he would be any good, I'm sure some bigger team than NAC (no offense) would've picked him up.. That said, he's worth the gamble for £400k or whatever. Blackburn chairman John Williams said: "We've been following him for some time after manager Mark Hughes identified him as a player he was interested in." So hopefully we've signed him based on something more than just the U21-champs.
rovers1993 Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 how about bentley?? look how much he developed under us and how he played at arsenal.... its the same thing with rigters... played not exceptional but still good at ajax, then moved and got to play regularly at henreeven so he grew into a good player and then moved to NAC and grew further more and got into the U-21 dutch team. then got 4 goals in the euro U-21 and moved to us.... similar to bentley as in when he played at big clubs he didnt get enough time to shine but when he moved he shun... im very excited about him and very happy to see him here... bellamy next!

So hopefully we've signed him based on something more than just the U21-champs. That seems a bit daft. Nobody else was interested in Samba, Warnock, Nelsen, Mokoena, Steven Reid, Freidel or Tugay yet all of those have been excellent players for the club. Just because no one else wants them does not mean they are a poor player. Samba was let go by Berlin for near nothing and looks outstanding. We shall see.

So hopefully we've signed him based on something more than just the U21-champs. Perhaps we've seen potential in him that his previous clubs didnt. It's a low risk signing and we've all got everything to gain from it, like it was with Samba, Nelsen and even Warnock!
dave birch Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I see your point JBN, yes, all those you nominated have come good to some extent or other (Friedel and Tugay were always good), but Ajax have a notoriously good youth setup. It's well known for producing the goods. All I was saying was that it says something that they let him go. Fair enough, if it was for reasons as Neekoy stated, but if it wasn't, then who knows. That said, I do hope that he turns out to be another of Hughes' gems.
broadsword Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Dave, he's only 23. Give him a chance. Bloody hell, why do Rovers' fans always look on the dull side? :-)
den Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 His arrival at Rovers is likely to hasten the departure of Franny Jeffers, LET
dave birch Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Dave, he's only 23. Give him a chance. Bloody hell, why do Rovers' fans always look on the dull side? :-) On the contrary, Bryan, I'm feeling quite positive about his arrival. It's just that Ajax don't usually part with quality, except for copious amounts of readies. If they've let one slip through their fingers and the Rovers have ultimately benefitted, then I'm more than delighted. I hope that Hughes can work wonders with him.
Rovermatt Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Potentially a brilliant signing. I didn't see the European Championships but the reports on him were good and you have to be at least outrageously talented to play up front for the Dutch. Nice one Rovers.
LeftWinger Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Who would you rather have - Nugent at 6m or the tournaments top scorer at a rumoured 400k? Its hardly a risk - and if it doesn't turn out well - no doubt we'll sell him on for a profit anyway. We like playing hard-ball over selling prices now - like Kuqi and Jeffers. You only have to look at how much Bentley has improved in the last 18 months to see how good the coaching staff at Rovers are - if anyone is going to get the best out of Rigters then its Hughes. His goal scoring record might not be the best - but Henry had scored 23 in 126 games before joining Arsenal from a similar wide position.
NAC_Breda Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I am happy with this signing especially regarding the fee Can you tell me that if as a wide player was he fast? and could he finish? do you think he has what it takes to suceed in the prem? do you think he could be a regular goalscorer? and do you think he will be better playing up front or out on the wing? thanks alot m8 btw the fee is rumoured to be around 500k The answers are provided by a feyenoord fan, I think i'm much more reliable -He's not the most fast player, but he is an hard worker, so he won't give up easily -At the EC -21 he proved to be a good finisher but most of the goals he scored were perfectly setup by babel.. -Here at NAC Breda we have doubts if he has what it takes to make it in the Premiership, NAC Breda is just a midtable team and he was average in our team. But with Holland -21 he played well because he had better players around him, what will also be the case at Blackburn! - If Hughes will use him as a striker he will be able to score goals, as a winger it will be far more difficult, regarding the 5 goals in 3 seasons for NAC - As I said, use him up front, or in a free role.. He did not impress me as a winger, but thats just me! I really hope he will do well for Blackburn any other questions?
NAC_Breda Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Potentially a brilliant signing. I didn't see the European Championships but the reports on him were good and you have to be at least outrageously talented to play up front for the Dutch. Nice one Rovers. You really don't have to be an outrageous talent to play up front for Holland -21. Huntelaar was selected for the national team, and except Babel there isn't really a decent striker under 21, it was a big gamble to put Rigters up front with babel. Rigters was one of the last names that were selected, no one expected him to play a whole match, and absolutely no one expected him to be topscorer..
SCF08 Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I've found some quotes of him in a couple of newspapers in Holland. ''I was definately ready for a bigger club and I'm very happy that a wonderful club like Blackburn offered me the opportunity'' ''Blackburn simply gave me the best feeling of all the interested clubs. I really want to show them what I'm capable of. I'll try my hardest to succeed in England'' ''I already knew Blackburn was a great club , Alan Shearer used to play there as well and he's a greatness in England'' ''Offcourse I knew Mark Hughes already. He was a super player and I heard in England that he was impressing everyone with his Managerial skills as well. The fact that he was a striker might come in handy for me too'' ''I've had a difficult time at NAC Breda last year. Thats why I didnt expect to play such a beautiful Euro Championship. And now this move has come on top of it as well. I cant really tell you how happy I am''
waggy Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 seems funny how a 23yr old plays for the under 21's,his goalscoring record ain,t fantastic, but we paid in the region off £500,000 .then liverpoo are paying £27,000,000 for a guy who scored 5 goals in the spanish league last season,
Rainmaker Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 It was a question asked in a reasonable manner. As did I. Your rather terse comment answered nothing, you twerp. If you can't be civil, shut it. Pot. Kettle. Black. What excactly was ' not civil' with my reply? You was just one of many dealing out the "he is an unknown, cast aside by club XXX"-card as an assessment of his skill. I simply pointet that out. Rigter was brought up through the Ajax youth system. That he's not still there says something to me, even if you are incapable of understanding. >> And Savage was let go from ManUtds youth system. Your point being? As for my capabilities of understanding thing, it is actually quite good. For excample I understand that in your reply to me, where you ironically called for a civil answer, your subject matter seems to be ad hominem.
Flopsy Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 well Bentley was 23, you have to be 21 at teh start of qualifying I beleive. Im quite happy to give the guy a chance. Look I know its no Dahlin but we have to do the best we can
LeftWinger Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 well Bentley was 23, you have to be 21 at teh start of qualifying I beleive. Is Bentley not 22?
