Eddie Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 What a difference a year makes. Last year hardly anyone predicted United for first, this year not a soul has predicted them lower than 1st. I was the only person to predict it in this last year, which was quite surprising (had to get my moment of success out there).

I like to think on the negative side - then anything else is a bonus But then I noticed how many mediocre sides there are in the Prem. Think Robin Van Persie will take over from Henry and keep Arsenal in the top four - but I expect the top two to run away with it - with a gap to Liverpool and then another gap to the rest. Think Newcastle will just pip us to 6th spot - they should have plenty of Goals in them, and Allardyce has set about improving the defence by getting rid of Bramble.
Philly Rover ® Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 I think that last year's prediction league thead was brought back by Philly a few weeks ago. He usually spends his free time, which he clearly has too much of , totalling up everybody's points come the end of the season. Guilty as charged. With my options being either: [A] study for finals, or do anything else, I embraced the virtue of procrastination. Speaking of procrastination, I was wondering when someone was going to start this thread this year. I think it's always fun to look back at these at season's end and laugh, so please feel free to write as much as possible (as long as you don't mind taking a bit of stick from everyone when May rolls around)! The way I've run the prediction game is this: Predict the entire 20 team table before the season starts (i.e. no later than, say, noon on August 11). Then, at the end of the season, for every spot you're off for each club you get one point -- for example, if you pick the Big Club to finish 8th and they actually finish 20th (we can always dream), you get 12 points. Picking the correct champion subtracts 10 points from your score, and you also lose 3 points apiece for each relegated club you get right. Person with the lowest score wins. Naturally, I'll wait as long as possible before posting my table (notice a trend here?), nominally for the purpose of seeing last minute transfers, injuries, etc. In reality, that stuff doesn't really matter; given the unpredictability of the Premiership season, a trained monkey drawing random names out of a hat has as much chance to win this thing as anyone else. This, of course, gives hope to the bob flemings of the world, so I suppose it's not altogether a bad thing. Scotty won it two years running before FourLaneBlue took home the title last year. Here are the links to the score totals and wrap-ups from the past three years: 2006-07 Season 2005-06 Season 2004-05 Season

Have a dig from your Safe Philadelphian Home (wasn't that The Clash?). How's about a 3 year culmulative table? Whilst you're doing nowt like?

Derby Reckon it's the usual Top 4, although depends on how the new look L'Arse and Spuds turn out for that last place. Plus I think it'll be close for the UEFA Cup spots, with anyone between us, Spuds/L'Arse, Newcastle, Everton and possibly Villa, Pompey. Either way, looking forward to the start of what should be another good season for us.

philipl Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Too early- there are pre-season games which might give hints whether duds or diamonds have been bought, eg how good is this Boateng Spurs have just spent £5m on from Hertha- if he is 18 times better than Samba he is a frightening prospect?!? or players to get injured in, Newcastle and City are surely going to buy defenders, Arsenal and Chelsea are sweating on Immigration officials making favourable decisions on Da Silva and Alex, If West Ham do sign Eidur, they have replaced Tevez and look a wholly different proposition, Several clubs (Boro, Bolton, Sunderland, Brum) which could be in trouble are in reality only one or two inspired signings away from mid-table safety- if they can find them.
LWX Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 lets make it more fun.....what about a table for what you'd like to see happen in a perfect world...... 1 Rovers 2 Birmingham City 3 Derby Co. 4 Boro 5 Sunderland 6 Arsenal 7 Wigan 8 Reading 9 Portsmouth 10 Fulham 11 Newcastle Utd 12 Everton 13 Man City 14 Spurs 15 Liverpool 16 Aston Villa 17 Chelsea 18 Man Utd 19 Bolton 20 West Ham Utd phew.....thats actually really hard to work out, i mean where you want everyone to finish...obviously top spot aint so tuff..
grizfoot Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Here's my prediction then: ------------------ 1. Liverpool 2. Chelsea 3. Man Utd 4. Blackburn 5. Arsenal 6. Tottenham 7. Newcastle 8. Everton 9. West Ham 10. Portsmouth 11. Man City 12. Aston Villa 13. Reading 14. Bolton 15. Middlesborough 16. Fulham 17. Wigan 18. Sunderland 19. Derby 20. Birmingham ----------------- Here's some other predictions I'd like to make: - Liverpool will win the title and Rafa Bentiez will go through with the shaving off of his goatee after he agreed half-way through the season to shave it off should Liverpool win the league. - Chelsea will come second again, scenes of John Terry & Lampard crying will be splashed across the papers. They will however win the FA Cup after a bizzare cup final against Liverpool were neither team as a shot on target, and Chelsea only win thanks to a passback which Reina was unable to keep out after he fell asleep on his goal-line. - Man Utd will reach the Champions League Final but are chucked out of the competiton after problems arise over whether on Tevez's registration papers he actually says his proper name is 'Carlito' rather than 'Carlos'. - Man Utd will be awarded twice as many penalties as any other Premiership club. - At least 4 premiership managers will moan about the Africians Cup Nation and use it as an excuse for the teams poor performances. - Arsene Wenger will criticise a team for being 'too physical' or blame the weather for being 'too cold'. - Craig Bellamy will suffer an injury at some point in the season. - Sven-Goran Ericksson is re-hired as England coach after leading Man City to the dizzy height of 11th. - Titus Bramble is awarded Wigan's player of the year. - Titus Brambles gets an England call-up and comes on as a second half sub and takes up a postion on the right-wing. Our Dave is left sitting on the bench. - Rovers lose in the final of the UEFA Cup against Roma after leading 2-0, Roma sub Shabani Nonda comes on and scores an hat-trick within 10 minutes, all the goals being from no more than 5 yards out. - Robbie Savage will pick up the most yellow cards in a season since records began with a totally number of 36 in all competitions. - Aaron Mokoena will win Barclay's Premiership Player of the Month for Novemeber, yet some board members will still critise his performances. - And finally Big Club will be relgated by Februrary and Rovers beating them 6-0 on the last game of the season enables us to nick fourth on goal difference.

Cocker Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I didnt want to open a separate thread for this but I was laughing at my Liverpool mate last night while watching their game. Their 20m star striker who has only previously started 1 pre season friendly for them came of the bench last night and was at first stuck on the right wing. Gerrard was moved to the left wing to accomodate Alonso and Mascarano. That new Fat Emanual Petit they have up front did sod all when they played us and I reckon he will do sod all for them this season. They do have a good team and if Rafa would stop chopping and changing all the time then I really think they might have a go at Man U and Chelski but he now has too many players to pick from. I dont think they are going to do as well as some predict.
brfc fan Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Actually I think Liverpool will come second but it will be close between United and Liverpool.
