It'll be good to hear BBE in full voice but don't be too hard on those who don't want to join in. It really narks at away games when some fans take exception to others who don't want to join in singing. It's more annoying than those fans who complain about those singing in the first place. Some people don't want to sing and unless there's a specifically designated singing area, they shouldn't feel intimidated.

Oh, and can you make the songs reasonably easy to understand, otherwise I'll waste even more time trying to explain to my father "what are they saying?" over in the Jack Walker. ;)

One thing that might encourage people to join in would be more songs rather than the repetitive "get into em" and "barmy army".

Also, if one side of the b/burn end start off a song, by the time the other end has joined in, its come to an end, "there's a pub down in burnley...." etc

I'm all for a good sing song, and would love for some more up to date stuff, but it'll be difficult to get new songs going. I dont think song sheets are the way to go, they'll end up being thrown onto the pitch as paper planes.

What we need is a biggish group sat together who can start off a new song, and when others have picked up the words and tune, they can join in. Maybe the biggish group should organise a sort of choir rehersal, extreme, but it might work.

Good post, agree wholeheartedly, something needs to be done!

BBE Lower, row 17 seats 48, 49 & 50 do a lot of singing, there's about 10 others around us that join in, we usually wait for leading of the TRH Corner of the BBE, however, ther's obviously a fair group in the Middle of the far left hand side of the BBE Lower also, then you have the drummers crashing the songs by their lack of rythm, however, I do start some as well, but it's hard going if the other guys around don't pile in.

(However, the response to Charlton with Stand up if you're going down I'm quite proud of (Amongst others))

I'll have no voice on Monday as per...

Yep. All it needs is people to get involved and sing up ! The fact the everyone is spread out around the ground can actually work in our favour.

As for people moving. Forget it. We've talked about this time and time again, the problem is everybody (including myself) likes where they sit and doesn't want to move.

And that's the biggest stumbling block. No pain, no game - people will have to make sacrifices.

If people were organized enough and the club were receptive to the idea, I see no reasons why people could not just move to a different part of the stand and arrange to be sat with their mates.

Moving seats is not necessary to make this work, a change of mindset in some people could well be necessary though.

Glenn, Ste, Stu - we have a problem, well to be more specific I have a problem. Like a lemon I was thinking that the England game is 2 weeks away, it isn't it's next week so I can't make the meeting on Tuesday! - Tuesday afters no good either as I'll be attempting to show off my footy skills.

<_< Sod that! I`m not wearing any choirboy gear.......at least not in public anyroad!

Why not get a bit of banter going amongst the crowd? example.....remember the old "the east side, the west side" chants of the old BBE. Or "Riverside Riverside give us a song?"

I find that whiskey also works a treat to dampen those inhibitions :tu:

"Come on you Blues!"...where`s that gone at corner time?

And we were great in Rotterdam. I was over at the other side of the stadium and recorded a movie in which you can all hear 'small town in europe' very clearly, over all the Feyen**rd (Ajax-fan speaking, no swearing) scum!

Don't forget there are always 100's of people who want to sing, but won't start. So if a good song gets going...we can do it!

And herein is part of the main problem - respect has to be given to those who don't want to sing etc (don't undertsand myself as its about supporting the team )

Being a singer / aggravater / pain in the arse / banter maker - its always difficult to draw a balance in the modern day game especially at away games where you try not to be disruptive to the enjoyment of a fellow supporter whilst trying to avert the attention of a jumped up steward or copper whilst giving your all to try and help the team.

Effectively it will be down to the club in the end, but the only way I can see it starting is by having a designated area(s) and make it known that they are so those sitting standing know what to expect so they have no complaints. From that it could help build the norm and get people into the mode of how it used to be (most of the time).

The club really need to do a survey to start with to gauge numbers of those who would be prepared to move to a designated singing area. However, if in the Blackburn End, this would have to be over to the rhs because I couldn't see a non singer in the middle willingly giving up his seat were the middle area chosen.

For me the ideal area would be in the Riverside, last three blocks up towards the Darwen End. Being nearer to the away fans there would be more 'banter' anyway. I'd do it. :brfc:

I seem to remember we ran a poll on here a few years ago, hundreds posted it was a good idea. None posted they would move.

To me, we alredy have a singing area, it's the Blackburn End and that's always been know. If people don't want to sit with noisey, vociferous fans then we have two other stands that would suit their needs better. I think currently we have too many people who have moved to the Blackburn End for the atmosphere, but don't wish to contribute to it.

Totally agree here Glenn, but in the owd days the Riverside also contributed in its way (where I first started watching). As you mention its about people agreeing to move etc but to me that's where the club comes in - ie initially designating an area(s) and sticking to it for a trial period with a disclaimer to say as such when tickets are sold - therefore nobody has any excuses.

BTW is the 'tete a tete' you mentioned still going ahead?

I have moved this season from N04 to N02, purely based on the fact that they tend to make more noise and start more chants. The people i used to sit with were top people, however I wanted more noise around me. Therefore there will be even more noise around N02 this year!

And i will stand up and sing when I want! :brfc:

My season ticket is on the Blackburn end near the back in the corner nearest the Jack Walker and it is a good atmosphere. From about row 25 up most people stand up and start up all the chants. My advice if you want a good atmosphere come and join us!

It would be an idea for the club to maybe designate this area a singing section or something.

I'm not knocking the idea, far from it, and the BBE is clearly the best place to encourage it. (I wouldn't want waking from my slumber in the JW Upper.)

But what if someone likes sitting in the BBE and really doesn't want to sing? Will some degree of tolerance be extended to them? Will they be forced to move seats to a non-singing area?

Why should they be seen as less worthy of sitting in the BBE than someone who sounds like a strangled cat being put through a meat grinder?

Again, I'm all in favour of getting those who want to sing having the opportunity, but I'm even more in favour of every fan following the club in the way they want to.

Fans should be allowed to stay where they want, however they should be made aware that the Bburn End is the noisy end and that from time to time they will have people standing, singing etc and that they will have to tolerate it as it is the designated singing area or something like that.

That way it should stop any moaners telling you to sit down etc!

I think designating the entire BBE lower as a singing area would send out a better signal!

We're not that loud round my way (back of the BBE just to the right of goal) but I'd be loath to move as I like the folks I'm sat next to.

Still I'll see what I can do - I've got a few chants going away from home before now.

Cut the Cr*p.

Make the whole BBE unreserved seating....every game.

If you want the same spot, you get in early like fans used to do.

I think this is an excelant idea and should have been covered a long time ago.

We need to get more atmosphere back into the home games and I think the manager and the players would definitely respond to more singing and chanting from the fans. In fact Hughesy has been seen to ask the fans to get behind the team more in games.

I sit in the lower tier of the JW central and do my best to sing as much as possible, much to the anoyance of the so called fans around me, the best that they can achieve is to clap.

Having said that, the noise coming from the Blackburn End is not much better, although there are still times when the singing makes the hair on the back of my kneck stand up, so it can only encourage the players to do well as well.

COME ON YOU BLUES GET BEHIND THE TEAM AND START MAKING SOME NOISE !
