philipl Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 If they go bust and into administration - what happens to the £30m debt to sheff utd? Interesting question. If it is deemed by the FA as a football debt, they will have to pay it in full before being allowed out of administration or else face multiple points deductions like Luton, Rotherham, Bournemouth and Leeds. But to an extent we are in uncharted waters as no Premier League club has gone bust before.

Am I being a bit thick here or isn't it that this 10 point deduction (for clubs going into administration) only applies for clubs in the football league (i.e. Championship and below)? I'm sure the Premiership has a different set of rules (i.e. make them up depending on who you are...)

I'm sure the Premiership has a different set of rules (i.e. make them up depending on who you are...) The Premier League like the Football League is (in theory) ultimately subject to FA rules. The PL has had plenty of forewarning that something might happen to WHU so should have worked out what they would do- and probably have done. WHU still have the issue of having been adjudged to have broken PL rules again after the £5m fine and the PL has done nothing about that so the make it up and turn a blind eye seems to be continuing....
Majiball Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 We're gonna need 2 more to follow them. Whats the chances of that? Come on Drog we're not as bad as WBA yet! Curiously where has this rumour come from regarding the Hammers? Any players that would look good in a Rovers shirt? I'm not sure about Bellamy, what type of injury did he have?
ABBEY Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 not as bad as wba? were only 1 point better !
Hughesy Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 WBA have a horrible run of games though, except for maybe this weekend. They are a sure bet to go down - Mowbray has said they need to sell before they buy in January too and they want 2 strikers. Maybe we could flog them Roberts?? I think WBA will be bottom, so its 2 places up for grabs really.
Ricky Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Upson would be one to look at if we do lose Samba. I'm sure he'd have bigger teams after him but it would be worth a try.

thenodrog Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 WBA have been playing some nice stuff so they could pick up. Don't rule them out of surviving. My lad went to the Hawthorns and in his opinion we were very much second best to WBA.
LeChuck Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 If West Brom had a half decent front man they'd probably be in mid table by now. They absolutely battered Wigan in the game they lost 2-1 a few weeks back. If they're still in touch by January and can get a decent striker (Miller has been ruled out of the season so they'll definitely get someone) then they've got as good a chance as anyone. All it would need is a Marlon King-esque loan deal and they could be safe.
jim mk2 Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Rovers were lucky to get a point at WBA having been outplayed for almost the whole 90 minutes and gifted a dubious penalty. I remarked to my WBA-supporting friend after the match that both teams were bottom three material. Keep faith with Paul Ince however because he and John Williams (the Dream Team) will get it right in the long term.
BuckyRover Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Nothing to do with having 10 men for over half the game. Nothing like a bit of selective editing.
LeChuck Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Not that West Brom's job wasn't made much harder by us getting a complete non-penalty. Nothing like being selective when complaining about selective editing.
Backroom Tom Posted December 12, 2008 Backroom Posted December 12, 2008 You seriously think roberts wasn't fouled for our penalty Lechuck? Wow I swear some people who watch football have absolutely no clue what the rules are.

Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Not that West Brom's job wasn't made much harder by us getting a complete non-penalty. Nothing like being selective when complaining about selective editing. It was a penalty. If the laws are followed to the letter, it has to be a penalty. The only reason it was surprising is because nobody thought he'd punish it when Roberts wasn't going anywhere.

Wow I swear some people who watch football have absolutely no clue what the rules are. I seriously think it wasn't a penalty. I'm aware that, by the letter of the law, it's a foul...but there's an unwritten rule in football that things like that go inside the penalty area, otherwise we'd end up with rugby scores. Watch some of the matches tomorrow and you'll see dozens of similar incidents where penalties aren't given. The look on Roberts' face said it all. I'm fully aware of what the rules are by the way, and if you knew how you probably wouldn't make such a pathetic attempt at being patronising.
Backroom Tom Posted December 12, 2008 Backroom Posted December 12, 2008 Fair one, I apologise it was a bit of a flippant comment I'll admit. However I stand by saying it was 100% a pen however you are right saying it wouldn't often be given but that doesn't change the fact that it was a blatant foul.
Billy Castell Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 So the Whammers are not in administration then. Haven't checked BBC this afternoon.
Zulu Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 I'm sure the Premiership has a different set of rules (i.e. make them up depending on who you are...) Brilliant - and so true, sadly. Fair one, I apologise it was a bit of a flippant comment I'll admit. However I stand by saying it was 100% a pen however you are right saying it wouldn't often be given but that doesn't change the fact that it was a blatant foul. And they're not rules, they are Laws. So meh!
thenodrog Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 It's no wonder Pennants trouble and indisciplined is it? http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2008/dec/13/u...ootball-pennant Reminds me of Gazza and his daft Dad. Some people should not be allowed to raise children.
