StaffsRover Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 skysports news scott parker close to joining city. "For significantly more than the £70,000 a week he is currently on at West Ham"!!! The mind boggles.....is it just me who thinks he is only slighter better than 'average'. If Citeh want to pay his silly money to go it says 2 things to me 1) They are a joke side prepared to pay as much as they want for the best they can get 2) They can't get what they really want All in all it just makes them even more of a joke than they already are.....
Guest Kamy100 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 More importantly if City sign Scott Parker then it would indicate that they are backing Hughes on the players he wants to bring in and that in turn makes it likely that a bid for Roque is imminent.

I don't even think he would be a certain starter in our team if everyone is fully fit, he's no better than Dunn and we've yet to see what Grella can do. If City are serious about challenging for the title etc then its simply a stopgap until they can sign some better teams in the summer, he won't even get on the bench, let alone the team. It makes you wonder when clubs go chasing after the likes of Parker, Bellamy, Upson, Green, Ashton, among others, if they are that good then why are they at the bottom of the league and always scrapping for survival.
RibbleValleyRover Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 A lot of city fans calling for Hughes's head on BlueMoon. They wanted names like Kaka and Messi instead they have ended up with Scott Parker.

I am not surprised. Not only are they buying such dross BUT they are paying it Messi and Kaka type salaries.
Hughesy Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Parker isnt a bad player, but not a player you would want if you are attempting to break into the top 4 or 5 clubs.
philipl Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Parker isnt a bad player, but not a player you would want if you are attempting to break into the top 4 or 5 clubs. Or avoid relegation either.
bigbrandjohn Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 A lot of city fans calling for Hughes's head on BlueMoon. They wanted names like Kaka and Messi instead they have ended up with Scott Parker. Maybe Hughesie asked for Kaka on the phone and the agent thought he said Paka
alexanders Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 8.11 According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are close to agreeing a £15million fee with Portsmouth to re-sign Jermain Defoe, who is looking to leave Fratton Park. taken from Wiki: Defoe joined Portsmouth in January 2008 for £7.5 million Sure he has doubled his value in a year. Terrific piece of business from Spurs
philipl Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Tribal Bolton in talks to take Davenport from West Ham.
joey_big_nose Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Parker isnt a bad player, but not a player you would want if you are attempting to break into the top 4 or 5 clubs. Parker is a very good player in my opinion if you get the best out of him and he steers clear of injury - you can see that in how he has been performing for West Ham recently. He is close to an England recall. Works hard, can pass and get forward, tackles well. Problem is the awful lack of shape that Citeh have thanks to possessing so many attacking midfielders precludes the first condition (they need a "sitter" to hold things together while SWP, Robinho, Ireland get forward - not a box to box guy like Parker), and his injury record is abysmal. West Ham will be rubbing their hands at 12m! What is Hughes up to?

Majiball Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 More importantly if City sign Scott Parker then it would indicate that they are backing Hughes on the players he wants to bring in and that in turn makes it likely that a bid for Roque is imminent. Still gobsmacked they've moved for Parker, but like your thinking with Parker. A lot of city fans calling for Hughes's head on BlueMoon. They wanted names like Kaka and Messi instead they have ended up with Scott Parker. ROFL, what on earth makes them think they would join them? Robinho had no choice.
Nelsonfan Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Scott Parker - Bloody hell, a good player but hasn't played consistently, partly through injury, partly because he simply hasn't played well and they (City) are supposedly forking out more on his wages. No wonder he wants a move! Don't get me wrong, I think Scott Parker is a good solid player - but nothing more than that, mid table at best for me. I suppose you could argue that this is a building block and he won't be there after a couple of seasons, but even so - you'd think they would be setting their sights a little higher at this stage with the money they have got!

I agree with you that Cash is king, but you have to look into City's position on the table as well. They are relegation candidates themselves I am sure that star players wouldn't want to join them when they can play European football elsewhere.
Hughesy Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Robinho soon joined when the big bucks were flashed at him, so im sure there are plenty of others out there who could be persuaded. They should looking for better quality - more like Toure, Given, Joe Cole, Alonso etc.... not Parkers, Bellamys etc.
Majiball Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Robinho soon joined when the big bucks were flashed at him, so im sure there are plenty of others out there who could be persuaded. Robinho was very public with his comments about Madrid there was no way he could stay. Chelsea would not meet the asking price so in nipped City. What choice did he have? He would have chosen chelsea if it had been a straight choice, but as I said he didn't have that option.
tcj_jones Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 City's transfer policy is rather strange. It seems as though they are prepared to waste umpteen millions on players who will give them an immediate and short term push up the table but who are by no means good enough to take the club forward to a position whereby they can challange the big four. I know that players like Roque and Bellamy are sensational on their day, but both are injury prone and not in the league of the likes of Robinho, the kind of players the club needs to be challanging for the title. I know that there needs to be a process of transition, but the likes of Parker must know that they will not be first team players by the start of the 2009 / 2010 season. Likewise, if both Roque and Bellamy were to join, one would know immediately that they would not be first choice ahead of Robinho.
Majiball Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Walcott to leave? Walcott Capello speaks on Gerrard. Capello
speeeeeeedie Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I don't know why City need Parker, they've got Kompany who is a very good holding player.
Majiball Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I don't know why City need Parker, they've got Kompany who is a very good holding player. I thought he was a centre back first sitter second.
The Prof. Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 This window is loosing the plot already. Parker is a very good player but 12m is very high and if he's heading towards £100,000 or 5,200,000 a week then Hughsey need to see the therapist. Have a look who comes in at that: The world! http://www.futebolfinance.com/salarios-dos...utebol-0708-v11 With a euro = a quid you still get some match winning rather than good players for that £5,200,000 Other big salaries! in Euro's (the E became a box on pasting) Peter Kenyon Chelsea FC 2.320.000 € 2. David Gill Manchester United 1.800.000 € 3. Richard Scudamore Premier League 1.470.000 € 4. Rick Parry Liverpool FC 1.360.000 € 5. Daniel Levy Tottenham Hotspur 1.160.000 € 6. Brian Barwick The FA 800.000 € 7. Keith Wyness Everton FC 570.000 € 8. Allan Duckworth Bolton Wanderers 510.000 € 9. Jeremy Peace WBA 375.000 € 10. Alister Mackintosh Manchester C 355.000 € 11. John Williams Blackburn Rovers 350.000 € UK see - http://www.footballerswages.com/?p=119 (some surprises)
philipl Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Did this City £12m/£100K per week bid for Parker ever happen in reality? Suppose City bid for Roque and Rovers turned round and said "Nope, not selling him". Would City turn round and just disappear empty handed like they seem to have done with West Ham and Parker? What sort of message does that send to the owners of Kaka and Messi? Either West Ham are about to be bought by somebody with enough muscle to frighten away ADUG (are DIC back in?) or I don't think City ever made an offer.
