Portsmouth accept Spurs bid for Defoe.

Thought to be 15 million pounds. Im shocked Man City didnt go in for him at that price.

I believe the £15m is a BS number-

it includes Spurs paying themselves a £4m sell-on clause and paying themselves the money Pompey haven't yet paid for signing Defoe and Kaboul.

That is why Spuds held all the cards on that particular deal.

Did this City £12m/£100K per week bid for Parker ever happen in reality?

Suppose City bid for Roque and Rovers turned round and said "Nope, not selling him".

Would City turn round and just disappear empty handed like they seem to have done with West Ham and Parker?

What sort of message does that send to the owners of Kaka and Messi?

Either West Ham are about to be bought by somebody with enough muscle to frighten away ADUG (are DIC back in?) or I don't think City ever made an offer.

DIC are in dire straits; most of Dubai's holdings will be "rescued" (taken over) by Abu Dhabi in all probability

That ties up with what I have been hearing- but not all of them and only minority holdings probably.

City's reported £24m bid for Yaya Tourre is exactly the sort of purchase City should be making with all their resources rather than be mucking around picking up Prem players with iffy injury records.

Unlike Parker, Tourre will make a significant difference to where City might finish in the league table.

Spurs will need special dispensation to sign as a club cant re-register a player within 1 year. So the prem board will need to meet if this deal is agreed and give them the go-ahead. Rule L14 or something.

I doubt that will be a problem. The Prem were so worried about Pompey's situation, they had a hand in making this deal happen.

City really do baffle me.

They have had 3 months to plan for this transfer window, draw up lists of targets and then use their financial muscle to secure them. However it appears that they do not have clear idea of who they want. It appears that their are certain players Hughes wants and their are certain players that the board one.

Take our own Roque Santa Cruz there is no doubt in my mind that Hughes wants him. However the dithering is probably coming from the board who are reluctant to pay £18 million when they could go and sign a "bigger name" striker for a few million more. It is fascinating to watch and I hope all of this uncertainty continues for City throughout January, seems to me the focus at City is entirely on who is coming in and who is going out, existing players are unsettled as they do not know what is going on and this will result in them dropping even more points and staying in relegation trouble.

Hughes wants to build an honest hard working club, hard to beat and players who will give 100% for the cause , over time he wants to add players with flair and gradually mingle them into the team, city are a team that regardless of money have always been incosistant, hughes wants to work on that with players that will do a job every week.

The city board just want to bring in the biggest names they can asap , only one outcome here i think.

If they are so borassic then I think it's possible for Crouch to be linked with a return to Villa.

According to SSN that is what they have been hearing from the midlands too as Carew has picked up another injury. Pompey would go down if they lost him too.

Selling Diarra and Defoe will have sorted out the problem of having no cash to pay the instalments on old transfers as they fall due. Pompey still have the problem of the £90k a week golden oldies who are wrecking their day-to-day viability- James, Kanu and Cambell.

Remember, that on roughly similar income bases, Pompey's wages went to £58m per year when Rovers' were £36m per year.

1 win in 6, next 3 games against :

Portsmouth v Man City,

Tottenham v Portsmouth,

Portsmouth v Aston Villa,

Also now 9/4 with the bookies to go down and only 3 points off 3rd bottom

Looking at their next 2 games I hope they draw them as it will also keep City and Tottenham in the relegation dogfight.

Perhaps the rest of the Prem are ganging up a bit on West Ham and Pompey after being quoted high prices for players on ridiculous wages.

Villa have publicly distanced themselves from Upson and 'Arry has said no thanks to David James.

Two non-deals cannot help but raise the pressure- Pompey have failed to flog Utaka to Rennes for £6m and Faubert's £50K a week make him a no go £4m to Nantes.

Quite apart from Spurs to continue spending- a little line here that Spurs are NOT going to announce Defoe's signing to the Stock Exchange. Transfers of over £10m have to be disclosed.

Pompey's woes are made worse by the fact that Diop is now out injured for three months and that they are rated an insolvency risk by credit agencies now. Like West Ham, they are delaying publishing their accounts.

Was a bit of a joke of Sky to do that news flash that we'd had an 11m bid rejected. Am willing to have egg on my face if he ends up here, but 4CB's, three are as good (if not better) than Upson.

Sky always do this with us tho, last jan 'Villa have had a bid accepted for Kevin Prince Boateng', didn't even bid for him it was out of nowhere. Said we'd bid for Nakamura as well one window again nothing in it. I don't even trust SSN, don't believe anything until it's on our website and they're in our kit.
