1864roverite Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 My take on City and the Kaka situation. If City are to be genuine top 4 challengers next season then they need a massive overhaul and NOT Kaka. Having Robinho and Kaka playing togehter is NOT going to make them worldbeaters at an instant, in fact, it would probably weaken their team morale overall. City need a world class manager first of all. They then need a right back, and 2 centre backs = Cost £50m PLUS. In midfield they need at least 2 more world class midfielders = cost upwards of £60m. Up front, Kaka plus A N other are required so lets be conservative and say the outlay for both is going to be £150m PLUS. Goalkeeper = Shay Given - cost = £12m Right back = Micah Richards - cost = free Centre back 1 = ? Centre back 2 = ? Left back = Bridge - cost £11.5m Right midfield - SW Phillips - cost = £11m Central midfield 1 ? Central midfield 2 ? Left midfield - Robinho - cost = £32.5m Centre forward 1 - Kaka - cost = £107m Centre forward 2 - Jo = Cost £19.8m Looking at their current playing staff here is list of players who will be unsettled/unemployed at the club as they strive for superclub status. Keepers - Hart and Schmiecel - Value in the region of £5m Defenders - Ball, Ben Haim, Dunne, Berti, Garrido,Mills, Onuerha,Logan and Zabaletta - Value in the region of £12m Midfielders - Fernandes, Hamman, Company, Johnson,Elano, Ethuhu, Petrov and Ireland - Value in the region of £25m Forwards - Bojinov, Caceido, Evans, Sturridge, Vassel and Benjani - Value in the region of £15m For me, the above players are NOt the type that City require to make the top 4 and even then move forward and challenge for the title, they need world class players and that is going to cost massive money. I can only see a period of unrest and uneasiness at the club as players get jealous of the funds handed over to so called big name players. I just cannot see it working for them.

Majiball Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Stan Wallymore, has just had talk-sports Italian correspondent on, he says that Kaka is done and dusted. He said he had spoken with a minority shareholder who said that the club where keeping it hush hush because they don't want to make the protests worse. Apparently its just a jog of dotting I's and crossing T's. We'll see.
budha Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Apparently its just a jog of dotting I's and crossing T's. We'll see. Or if we trust Hughes, there's still a lot of I's to dot and T's to cross.. "It's not going to be a deal that's done overnight," insisted Hughes to Sky Sports. "We've got a long way to go, a lot of bridges to cross before we even get to talk to the boy himself in regard to his personal terms," he added. "I'm sure it will take a lot longer than people anticipate it will, but we've shown our intent and we would like to bring him to the club if at all possible." Hughes - No quick Kaka deal
philipl Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 The Screws reveal documents which they say put WHam in the clear on Tevez. Well if that IS their evidence West Ham are totally screwed. Those letters were always known to exist and are confirmed as doing so in both subsequent hearings so big deal. The problem West Ham have remains: - solictor Sheard informed Lord Griffiths and the arbitrators that he was verbally informed by Duxbury that West Ham still acknowledged the existance of the agreement and on that basis Joorabchiam did not exercise his ownership rights and pull Tevez out of the last three games. - West Ham benefited financially from Joorabchian paying for the insurance on Tevez during the last three games after the agreement was "destroyed" which clearly shows the agreement was fully in force. - the Griffiths arbitration ruling documents over five or six pages how Joorabchian sold Tevez to Man U then under PL pressure, a face saving formula was put in place for transferring the registration documents from West Ham - West Ham settled Joorabchian's claim for payment which they would not have done had their been no continuing agreement.
philipl Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I have a lot of sympathy with David Moyes for slamming West Ham and Pompey as dangerous clubs who have damaged the Premier League as a whole. At least Pompey are being honest in the way they are unwinding thye mess they created for themselves unlike West Ham who are still lurching around like irresponsible drunks.
philipl Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Man City can make money out of their Kaka deal?
thenodrog Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Man City can make money out of their Kaka deal? Personally I cannot see it. "That means City will have to get back £50m per year. "Their commercial and marketing firm will be able to get millions from friendlies all over the world. "At the moment City can probably earn £200,000 for a friendly. With Kaka they will get £2.5m in the Far East. 1. ONE PLAYER WILL NOT MAKE THEM A GREAT TEAM. THE COSTS OF GOD ONLY KNOWS WHO ELSE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. 2. HOW MANY FREINDLIES PER ANNUM? 2/3 MAYBE? 3. BIT PICKY BUT WHILST KAKA IS A GOOD PLAYER BUT IS NO PELE / MARADONA IS HE? MARKETING WISE HE IS NOT AS ATTRACTIVE AS RONALDO. "The sale of replica shirts around the globe will boom. I MAY BE MISTAKEN BUT I HAD READ THAT HE KAKA WAS RETAINING HIS MARKETING RIGHTS. "And with a star like Kaka they can justifiably put £10 on the price of every season ticket next year and expect a bumper sale. THATS AN INCREASE OF £400,000 UNLESS THE BLOKE MEANS PER MATCH. "They'll look to exploit TV rights and contracts to all South American commercial stations and to the Middle East, Far East and Australia. "I'd guess they'll take £5m from increases in sponsorship."" WELL I DONT GUESS ANYTHING WHAT I DO KNOW FOR CERTAIN SURE THAT NO AMOUNT OF MARKETING SPIN CAN DISGUISE THE FACT THAT THE WORLD IS IN SERIOUS RECESSION. Just as an aside I reckoned up that accepting a wage of an average 30k pw KAKA's proposed weekly wage would have virtually paid the wage bill for BOTH sets of players on the pitch yesterday!!! (Taking Owen out of the equation of course)
Majiball Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Manchester City are in talks with Paris St Germain about taking a stake in the French club. (Mail on Sunday) Taken from the BBC, perhaps the arabs are looking to build an empire. Paris as a feeder team for City?
jonv Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 QUICK question; do we want fulham or west spam to get the points this arvo? and do we want pompey or spurs to be nabbing the points?
philipl Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Theno- I don't see it either but Cook is supposed to be the best sports rights marketeer around. If Kaka is on, he will be a busy boy selling rights all over the place at the moment and eye off the ball on any other deals. jonv- Fulham to beat WHam definitely the best for Rovers. WHam far more likely to slip into relegation trouble of the two and we have the mid-March trip to Craven Cottage by which time hopefully Fulham will be savouring the giddy delights of 40ish points already. Spurs and Pompey to draw with a couple of straight reds would be sweet.
DeadlyDirk Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 QUICK question; do we want fulham or west spam to get the points this arvo? and do we want pompey or spurs to be nabbing the points? I guess a draw in both games wouldn't be a bad result for us. Would love to see Spuds stay bottom but don't really want Portsmouth to get a win!

braddock Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 West Ham 1-0 up a draw would be good would keep us 6 points from 8th

The thing is, all this marketing assumes that we are all gullible fools and will pay up extra just to watch one guy play/for the pleasure of owning a City shirt with his name on it etc. Now there are plenty of gullible fools around and a fair number are City supporters but to grow success and global fame on the back of one guy signing seems to me a bit unlikely. Obviously they hope his arrival will open the flood gates but not every club will be as open to the idea of selling their stars as Milan appear to be. Not every team needs a major overhaul because the majority of their squad is aging or whatever.
Jim J Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 1-1 konchesky Tremendous strike, reminds me of myself in my younger days
