DeadlyDirk Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 How many points do Newcastle have? Anyone got a live table? They have 23 and Sunderland have just scored to go 1-0 up through Cisse. If you look at Newcastle's team, especially the bench it sums up how bad they are, especially without Owen. Carrol and Ameobi upfront, terrifying!

jonv Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 do we want sunderland getting confidence from a win? in the long run isn't a draw better for us?
rover6 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Fulham signing Oliver Dacourt and Brian McBride...oh dear... McBride's always good value - well he was but I don't know if his legs will still carry him in the Premier League. As for Dacourt...mmm...hard to tell without knowing how he's been doing in recent seasons. BTW: What's happened to Zamora? At his previous clubs, he always scored goals when given a run in the team.
Guest Kamy100 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Robbie Keane not involved in the Liverpool v Chelsea game. I would think that Liverpool are therefore looking to ship him out. Could have implications for the Roque to Spurs transfer.
philipl Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 At this point in the season, a two goal win dumping Newcastle beneath us would be just fine. Perfect warm-up for the replay: 100mph football, crunching tackles and yellow cards.
gumboots Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Newcastle piling on the pressure now. I think, in view of our upcoming fixtures we get Newcastle below us now and worry about the rest later.
rovers1995 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Cisse limps off, could be good news for us in regards to wednesday

Perfect warm-up for the replay: 100mph football, crunching tackles and yellow cards. That's what I think, we only need 3 teams to be worse than us this year. If Newcastle lose to their arch rivals at home and slip into the bottom 3 at the start of February I don't think there is anyway back from them without some kind of magic signings tomorrow. They have no strikers, no Owen, no Martins, no Viduka, if I was JFK I would 100% be giving Shearer a ring tomorrow morning, not to coach, to bloody play!! He's gotta be better than the likes of Xisco and Ameobi!

Zamora has been playing with a couple of niggly injuries and illnesses this season, for example he was playing with flu/cold yesterday. His finishing is poor, his hold up play good but in general he's just a frustrating striker. His heading is awful too.
Guest Kamy100 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Newcastle v Sunderland is good result for us, as it keeps both clubs in the relegation dogfight. The game in hand against Fulham could prove to be crucial.
Mr. E Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Given joining City is a bit surreal. Not too long ago Souness dumped us for the "bigger and better" club, and now their best player of the decade (after Shearer) is selling out for a contract to "pursue his ambition". Football continues to progress.
Exiled_Rover Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Ameobi equalises from a very very soft penalty I don't get that - BBC Five Live are calling it controversial in their bulletins. Taylor was brought down from behind, it doesn't get any more clear cut than that. And Lampard has just been sent off for winning the ball. Jesus the standard of officiating is pathetic.
Grabbi Graeme Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Ameobi equalises from a very very soft penalty At least Dave from Newcastle will be happy, if you have seen I'm on Setanta Sports you'll know what I mean Lampard just been sent off for Chelsea.
RevidgeBlue Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Ridiculous decision to send Lampard off, I thought Alonso was late and more at fault than Lampard in the challenge. Yet another "home" decision by an official for one of the big four.

Football continues to progress. I think that's a little harsh on Shay, he's stuck with Newcastle for a long time when bigger clubs have sniffed, Newcastle are going down and City unfortunately can only get better. You don't get many players who will give 10 odd years to the club these days, at 32 it's probably one of his last chances for a 'big' move.
gumboots Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 The newcastle penalty was soft as ther was contact from Taylor on Malbranque (was it?) too. It was one you'd be delighted to get for your team but up in arms about if the opposition got it against you.
DeadlyDirk Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Considering how short of players Newcastle are I think that alone tells you just how far Smith has fallen in the last couple of years. You'd think if he had much to offer they would want to keep hold of him. Can't see why you want him?
Exiled_Rover Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 If Alan Smith is played upfront he's not a bad player. He's not a goal scorer, but he'll put himself about and get himself on the end of things. I assume he's being brought into the Fulham team for the target man role. Bloody Torres - fantastic finish mind, but completely undeserved.
Rovers in America Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Wow, Bosingwa should have been red carded for the studs in the back of the Liverpool player there.

Bloody Torres - fantastic finish mind, but completely undeserved. Disagree to be honest, even before the red card Liverpool were on top, Chelsea never really threatened, don't remember Reina having a lot to do. So Chelsea haven't beaten any of the other top 4 yet, not good for them, Scolari is under pressure here, potentially 8 points behind Man Utd now if they win their game in hand, on current form even if Chelsea won every game I can't see Man Utd losing 3 times. I'd be surprised if Liverpool keep up the pace, may as well send the trophy to Old Trafford now. 2nd to 5th is wide open, don't think any of Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal or Villa are certain to finish in the top 4, but on the other hand they all look as likely as each other to finish 2nd at the moment.
