roversmum Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Much as I hate Spurs it was a very good match and they were all over Arse. It was worth it to see the Arsenal fans leaving early! My heart says I would like to see Everton in the final to trounce Spurs but my head says Chelsea so the extra UEFA place is available. Mind, Spurs are yet still in UEFA so they might progress there as well, perish the thought

Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 "But Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insisted: "I did not know anything about it. I didn't see it." "
philipl Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Article on Everton but encapsulates everything the angst on thos MB has been all about.
John Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 I remember last year around this time, when we were in the cup competitions (especially UEFA & FA cup). I was thinking we are playing too many games, we might get injuries because we are involved in so many matches, or the players may suffer from fatigue. Oh, how I miss those days. It is so boring being out of every competition and just having the league to focus on.
Jordan Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Personally I would rather see Chelsea win. This is based on a) I hate Spurs and really dont want to see them winning a cup b ) if chelsea win the cup it guarentee's an extra european place to the league. I know Everton will probably finish in the top 6 however it is more likely that Chelsea will and also is Spurs win it then it definately wont go to the league.

Tim Southampton Rover Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 I'd rather Spurs win the cup for the sake of football. I know we'd have a better chance of qualifying into Europe but i'd rather see different teams win the competition because I want football fans to appreciate winning the Carling Cup. When we won the competition, it will probably rank up there with some of our greatest memories as a Rovers fan since we've supported the club and something we will always remember. However when United, Arsenal or Chelsea win it, it will just be considered a minor unimportant trophy to them as they are used to winning bigger competitions and as my Chelsea fan friend said "I don't care if we win it to be honest..." In todays game, i'm fed up of hearing about the top 4, i'm fed up of so called fans supporting whoever wins the league, i'm fed up of the money in the game and i'm fed up of our game being destroyed by people who don't care about the game. We need teams like Everton, Spurs, Villa, Blackburn and dare I say it, Pompey, to win the cup competitions to keep the love of the game alive for fans like us who love the game whether we win or lose. We need the game to return to real football fans. Come on Spurs!
American Rover12 Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Good to see the United States favorite club signing another. Eddie Johnson to Foolham.
philipl Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Not EPL news per se but the Russian FA have blocked FC Moscow from playing their May home league game against champions Zenit St Petersburg in London- Stamford Bridge to be precise. They've been told they have to play it in Russia. They have only 17 million square kilometers of Russia to select a suitable venue from. They could play at home in Moscow.
USABlue Posted January 24, 2008 Author Posted January 24, 2008 They could play at home in Moscow. What a novel idea. Wonder if that sort of thing will catch on.
brian_gallagher85 Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 They can host the Champions Lge final, but not a league game!
philipl Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 If Arsenal and Liverrpool survive their Milanese challenges, the chances are the Muscovites will be hosting a CL final doubling as an EPL league game which if the dream 2007 FA Cup Final is anything to go by will bore the world to death.
Hughesy Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Isnt part of the new TV deal in future so that each prem club plays at least 1 game a season in another country?
philipl Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Yes a friendly demo game, not a league match.
Grabbi Graeme Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Sentanta News reporting that Birmingham are considering 20 transfer targets.
BiggusLaddus Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Sentanta News reporting that Birmingham are considering 20 transfer targets. Hmm... The already have McFadden and O'Conner, perhaps the are after the rest of the Scotland squad? LOL
LeftWinger Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Obafemi Martins is set to have his 60k a week increased to 90k a week until 2013. Football has gone to the dogs. How can a half-decent footballer be commanding nearly 26m over 5 and a half years? Disgusting.
philipl Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 The tears in Geordie land could swamp a Tyneside ship launch if (when?) this all goes upside down.
Grabbi Graeme Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Wigan have signed Marlon King, although a fee hasnt been mentioned.
Cocker Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Wigan have signed Marlon King, although a fee hasnt been mentioned. I find this one mental. 1. The guy had previously scored loads in the championship 2. They then get promoted to the Prem and he is injured for the season so not proven 3. He isnt setting the world alight since coming back from injury 4. Fulham have a bid of around 5m accepted 5. The Fulham move falls through because he fails a medical - deal falls through 6. Wigan must have offered around the same as fulham and also let him skip a medical
speeeeeeedie Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 This season's end is going to be a real cracker. You can argue 1 of 3 can win the league, any 1 of 7 could claim the 4th Champions League spot, the same lot plus 2 could get a UEFA place, and the rest could all go down. Last night's results shifted the bottom around a bit. Boro winnig helped them at Wigan's expense but Brum getting beat off Sunderland evened it out a bit. I do like the Newcastle roller coaster, they are truly awful. Keegan can't get any blame yet, neither can Dennis Wise the Oracle. They have some horrific players, and they make Michael Owen look like a park player. He needs out of there quickly if he's to reprise any of his previous form.
philipl Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I agree, the season is building up to be one of the most exciting for a long time. Just for fun I ran the BBC predictor thing next to the Lawrenson predictions last night putting in reasonably likely results and not checking until the season end to see what happened to the table and was astonished by the Prem winners. Chelsea one point ahead of Arsenal one point ahead of ManU! Everton got 4th, Rovers just squeaked 7th and unbelievably tight 14th to 18th.
