Exiled_Rover Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Exactly . I'm sick to the back teeth of hearing of poncy footballers who can't play twice in a week . They should take a look at other sports every now and again . Rugby for example - players who were staggering around semi conscious in last night's Wales/France game will be fine next weekend . Tennis is another example . The top players can be on court for 5 hours and do it all again the very next day . If Rovers do go down then it'll be more to do with mental weakness than anything physical . Try squash if you're going to cite a racquet sport. In comparison the fitness levels in tennis are a joke. That said, all the top teams have huge squads to cope with the demands of midweek games. Clearly the game is extremely physically demanding and two games a week is pushing the limits - despite their antics, footballers are far from soft.

Or the NBA here, quite a physically demanding game with sometimes as many as 5 games in 7 nights, often ALL away from home too.

It's often said that tennis players are the fittest of all athletes (the blokes that is .......) I tried playing squash a couple of times against a mate who was county level standard . I've never been as physically exhausted before or since - pure torture .......
1864roverite Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Despite our perilous position put youself in the feet of most Liverpool fnas and have a think about they are thinking. Midweek they go and get a result at Real madrid only for the ultimate ambition of winning the league destroyed by one person and one person only - THEIR OWN MANAGER The fat spanish Waiter has single handedly destroyed any hope they will ever have of landing the Premiership title and for the Red Scousers it must be as painful as losing to Everton. :!:
benhben Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 That middlesborough result is a shocker for us!!! :(
Blue blood Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 You can't rely on Liverpool doing you any favours. Absolutely gutted with the boro result, the most disappointed I've been about a non-rovers result for quite a while. This really notches up the pressure on tomorrow's game. If it wasn't a must win before, it is now. We simply have to win. Can't imagine Hull are too thrilled with boro's win either, and may make them think a win is much more needed than before too.

Rafa will go and they will get another top class coach, we go down we could be managed by the likes of Harry Bassett in the future.
Amo Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Not sure how badly injured Torres really is, but it looks like Benitez has already thrown in the towel and is saving him for the Champions League. Liverpool were poor. Because Benitez knows he has a better chance of winning the Champions League, which will paper over their failed title challenge.
Backroom DE. Posted February 28, 2009 Backroom Posted February 28, 2009 Liverpool are utterly pathetic... Man Utd are so far ahead of anybody else in this league right now it's ridiculous. Fergie must wonder how it's become so easy. As if tomorrow's game wasn't big enough already... now we really have no choice but to win. Anything less just doesn't bear thinking about.
tonygreenbank Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 If Liverpool are that bad having been beaten by Boro then why cant we have a chance to beat them also?
gumboots Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 If Liverpool are that bad having been beaten by Boro then why cant we have a chance to beat them also? Today's result changes nothing - we always had to win at Hull, perhaps not for the result itself but for what it will do to Hull and because we haven't had a win in a while. Winning needs to become a habit again. Yes, I'd rather have seen Liverpool win today, despite the fact that part of my heart belongs to the Boro as the team of my childhood, but it's really about us and the points we get. Our fate is still in our own hands and that of a competent ref. Who have we got tomorrow?

Our fate is still in our own hands and that of a competent ref. Who have we got tomorrow? This is true, we needed to win tomorrow regardless of Boro's result today. That result just means our run in became harder. I have to admit I had Boro as certs for the drop, but it seems they've gained some confidence at the wrong time as far as we are concerned. Still, if we win tomorrow we will hopefully jump out of the relegation zone with another game in hand to play.
Presty On Tour Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Disappointing Boro result but the bottom line is, with our games in hand, we are still in control of our fate.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Grim is what I call matters at the moment...my god how we need those 3 points tomorrow!!
thenodrog Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 The best time to play a top team is after they have given a cracking away performance in european competition a few days before. Happens time and again. Lets be honest last week with a bit of good luck we could have beaten MU at OT! Having said that tomorrows game now becomes even more important.

Liverpool were poor. ....and so much for the silly journos spouting about the most 'exciting Premiership race ever' a matter of weeks ago. It's all hype. As is "the tightest Premier League table in years"!

I hope he's less kind to Hull than the idiot who allowed Hull to cripple Dunn in the first half and did so much to wreck our season (not that Ince couldn't manage that on his own).
Rovermatt Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 That middlesborough result is a shocker for us!!! :( Terrible result for us. Having said that you can't rely on Liverpool to do anything useful these days, handing the title to those United @#/?s is just one of their many failings in the last couple of weeks. Liverpool are utterly pathetic... Man Utd are so far ahead of anybody else in this league right now it's ridiculous. Fergie must wonder how it's become so easy. It's become so easy because there is not a shred of organisation or wherewithal in any of United's apparent rivals. Each has conspired to make United's canter to the summit of the league (for yet another hat-trick of titles) embarrassing in its simplicity. Nauseating.

And worse they'll field weakened sides when the title is their's and when we've already played them twice
dingles staying down 4ever Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Disappointing Boro result but the bottom line is, with our games in hand, we are still in control of our fate. Woulkd rather have points than games in hand though
thenodrog Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Alan Hanson says that Lpool's squad is weak and they have no strength in depth. Considering the amount they have spent over the past years that is a shocking state of affairs. No wonder Parry is having to walk the plank. He deserves to.

Oh for the days when a little but very proud town club pushed Utd all the way and hounded them like hell....so privileged to say I was there to witness it.
Grabbi Graeme Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Megson has signed a new contract at Bolton, this now dismisses the rumours that he was about to be replaced by Colye, I'm sure the notlob fans will be happy with the news
Backroom Tom Posted March 1, 2009 Backroom Posted March 1, 2009 Horrible sounding injury for Behrami at West Ham - hope he makes a speedy recovery wouldn't wish an injury like that an any (well maybe some )
