Hull 1-1 Newcastle

sundrland 1-1 wigon

bolton 0-1 fulham

wigan 2-1 up

bolton 1-1

If the results stay like that (they wont as Wigan are ahead again, which is great), then it will have been a GREAT day for Rovers, Boro look lost, Brom are pretty much down and Newcastle are to play the next three games against top 4 sides.

I don't like to predict the results of our rivals, because we all know anything can happen. Newcastle have Arsenal & Chelsea next, which you would expect nil points, but Arsenal are due a day-off.

So, on the basis of the past few results, can we confirm that Martin O'Neil's decision to forsake the UEFA cup one of the dumbest in recent memory? Killed their momentum and may even cost them that CL spot.

I certainly think so. Going out of the cup having given it a good go is one thing but in their situation sacrificing the cup has put pressure on them in the league that they did not already have. It's all they have now and the strain is beginning to tell. Our cup exit is not quite the same because we already had the relegation pressure on us.

I'm not sure the cup exit has contributed to their poor form, but it was a chance to win a pretty large trophy and they just threw it away. City's continued success goes to show that you don't have to be that good to and Villa were one of the better sides left at the time they chose to rest their first team.

Maybe Heskey was a bad buy and has upset their balance... a classic example of fixing something that wasnt broke..

Carew was injured and they needed another option. And the cup thing just broke their rhythm and momentum. Souness always used to say that teams that are winning don't feel tired. It's when you get time to realise you are tired that you start to feel it.

Villa dont have a big enough squad of real quality and they were always going to fade. They were also getting more than their fair share of luck - which appears to of dissapeared too.

The thing is they got a lot of success by being efficient too. What they don't have is a big match changer they can start with let alone one sitting on their bench they can bring on when they need to change things around. Carew came on yesterday and although he did make a difference he is the same kind of player as heskey (though much better at what he does) Look at the bench at Utd, Chelsea or arsenaland even as they were saying yesterday at Spurs. that's what makes you more likely to be able to turn things around.
