imy9 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Hull 1-1 Newcastle sundrland 1-1 wigon bolton 0-1 fulham wigan 2-1 up bolton 1-1 If the results stay like that (they wont as Wigan are ahead again, which is great), then it will have been a GREAT day for Rovers, Boro look lost, Brom are pretty much down and Newcastle are to play the next three games against top 4 sides.
1864roverite Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Next 2 games for the relegation haunted teams. Rovers - Wham and Spurs at home (6 points) Pompy - Everton (h) and Hull (a) (1 point) Spurs - Chelsea (h) and Rovers (a) (0 points) Newcastle - Arsenal and Chelsea both at home (0 points) Boro - Stoke and Bolton both away (0 points) Stoke - Boro (h) and WBA (a) (4 points) Hull - Wgan(a) and Pompy (h) with a home game versus Arsenal in the FA Cup first (1 point) Sunderland - Wigan and Wham both away (0 points) Bolton - WBA (a) and Boro (h) (4 points) Fulham - Manure and Liverpool both at home (0 points) Have not included WBA as they are gonners ! as we speak Rovers under the cosh and Everton 2-1 versus Stoke Fulham 2-1 up now
1864roverite Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Fulham have scored a third goal to lead Bolton 3-1. Everton still 2-1 up v Stoke Hull and Barcodes drawing 1-1 Boro 0-1 Pompy and also Boro down to 10 men Wigon 2-1 up at Sunderland
Amo Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I don't like to predict the results of our rivals, because we all know anything can happen. Newcastle have Arsenal & Chelsea next, which you would expect nil points, but Arsenal are due a day-off.
Bobby G Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I believe Newcastle will pick up points against one of the two teams. Fulham safe now. Between Bolton all the way down, its anyone's game and thats better for us. The more the merrier. Id think 39 points may be enough, but we need to target 4 wins.
thenodrog Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 We need to stay clear of injuries more than anything at the moment. RSC, Givet, Warnock, Nelsen and Grella are damned big players for us.
Backroom DE. Posted March 14, 2009 Backroom Posted March 14, 2009 I don't think we're that worse off without Grella. The others are basically our key players, and having them all out at once is a disaster.
Hughesy Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Good play by Lampard to spot the opportunity though.
Mr. E Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 So, on the basis of the past few results, can we confirm that Martin O'Neil's decision to forsake the UEFA cup one of the dumbest in recent memory? Killed their momentum and may even cost them that CL spot.
Bobby G Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 I dont think the two were inter-related but you can understand why MON would do that considering their squad size and the challenge for 4th place being worth so much to them both in footballing terms and financially.
Backroom DE. Posted March 15, 2009 Backroom Posted March 15, 2009 Villa have bottled their run in spectacularly, oh dear.
gumboots Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 So, on the basis of the past few results, can we confirm that Martin O'Neil's decision to forsake the UEFA cup one of the dumbest in recent memory? Killed their momentum and may even cost them that CL spot. I certainly think so. Going out of the cup having given it a good go is one thing but in their situation sacrificing the cup has put pressure on them in the league that they did not already have. It's all they have now and the strain is beginning to tell. Our cup exit is not quite the same because we already had the relegation pressure on us.
Eddie Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I'm not sure the cup exit has contributed to their poor form, but it was a chance to win a pretty large trophy and they just threw it away. City's continued success goes to show that you don't have to be that good to and Villa were one of the better sides left at the time they chose to rest their first team.
jonv Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 They look fatigued and fresh out of ideas. Spurs made them play football. Something they can't do. No counter attacks or break aways means no goals for our Villains in B'ingham.
JC4LAB Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Maybe Heskey was a bad buy and has upset their balance... a classic example of fixing something that wasnt broke..
gumboots Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Maybe Heskey was a bad buy and has upset their balance... a classic example of fixing something that wasnt broke.. Carew was injured and they needed another option. And the cup thing just broke their rhythm and momentum. Souness always used to say that teams that are winning don't feel tired. It's when you get time to realise you are tired that you start to feel it.
Hughesy Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Villa dont have a big enough squad of real quality and they were always going to fade. They were also getting more than their fair share of luck - which appears to of dissapeared too.
gumboots Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Villa dont have a big enough squad of real quality and they were always going to fade. They were also getting more than their fair share of luck - which appears to of dissapeared too. The thing is they got a lot of success by being efficient too. What they don't have is a big match changer they can start with let alone one sitting on their bench they can bring on when they need to change things around. Carew came on yesterday and although he did make a difference he is the same kind of player as heskey (though much better at what he does) Look at the bench at Utd, Chelsea or arsenaland even as they were saying yesterday at Spurs. that's what makes you more likely to be able to turn things around.
