Hughesy Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 For a team to go down, they either have a poor manager or a poor team - which one is it Eddie?

John Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Southgate is apparently on the short-list for manager of the year......
thenodrog Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Southgate is apparently on the short-list for manager of the year...... I take it thats 'North East Manager of the year'?
amiplaying.com Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I think Mr. Shearer will win that one. When will clubs stop appointing past players with practically no managerial experience in the top flight? Our very own Mr Williams knows all about that.
amiplaying.com Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Wasn't Shearer JW's first-choice? Exactly. We couldn't get him so Ince had to do...
Amo Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 If JW really wanted to follow the Hughes model, he would have looked at Slaven Bilic. Young ex-player, successful manager at international level. Shearer had NO managerial experience, and Ince was a lower-league manager without the necessary qualifications. The only similarity between Ince & Hughes is they're both managers who played for Man. Utd.
waynerovers Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 been playing accumulators a lot and obviously not winning decided to try a different approach and go for a first goalscorer in the everton game. Didnt know you could get first goalscorer each way options, really increases your chances, I put a tenner on Fellaini each way, got myself a nice 70 quid which covers what i've spent this weekend, pleased as punch.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Currently Manchester United 1-2 Aston Villa. Scousers must be squeaking for all they are worth.
rovers1993 Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 hopefully we can ruin the party for the pools next week.
Rovermatt Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 F**king United. I just knew those flukey t*ssers were going to scrape it. Have to hope they drop points elsewhere. Arrrrgggghhhhh!
Backroom DE. Posted April 5, 2009 Backroom Posted April 5, 2009 Kinda glad to see Utd win, if only because I'd rather they won the title than Liverpool. Newcastle's last 7: Stoke (a) - DRAW Spurs (a) - LOSS Portsmouth (h) - WIN Liverpool (a) - LOSS Boro (h) - WIN Fulham (h) - DRAW Aston Villa (a) - LOSS That's IMO fairly optimistic from Newcastle's point of view and leaves them with 37 points. I doubt that will be enough to stay up. They're going to need to basically play like a totally different team to have any chance of staying up. Winning at Stoke would be huge for them, and they also have to beat Portsmouth & Boro, and probably win one of Fulham, Villa or Spuds to stay up.

Backroom DE. Posted April 5, 2009 Backroom Posted April 5, 2009 I don't have any affinity for Man Yoooo... but Liverpool fans get on my nerves far more. They still seem to think the Premiership belongs to them, despite never actually winning the Premiership title. They were top only by virtue of being 2 games ahead of Man Utd and now I'm convinced they won't win it. If Utd had lost today, it'd be fair game, but it wasn't to be. I think Liverpool will murder us next week, mind. 3 or 4 nil at least if we play as badly as we did yesterday. Unlike Tottenham, they will put us to the sword.

United lose today and the Scousers would be giving it both barrels against Newcastle . After todays result they may have given up the ghost and play the reserves. We'll find out on Saturday.

Tyrone Shoelaces Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Lets hope they're still only a point behind when they play Newcastle.
Backroom DE. Posted April 5, 2009 Backroom Posted April 5, 2009 Even if they're not, I can't see them giving it up until it's mathamatically impossible. They're playing us next week so that's 3 points in the bag for them, unless we somehow remember how to actually take points off a top four team. Utd have Sunderland so they're likely looking at 3 points as well. I reckon this one will go to the last couple of games of the season (I hope so, anyway!)
Billy Castell Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 With regards to Boro/Barcodes, and any new managers that could move in should they go down, I can think of one man who would be a brilliant choice. I'll give you a clue, his wife had better own fire proof dresses just in case................. However, I expect Newcastle to do something stupid like hire Paul Ince or Mickey Adams.
T4E Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 WBA 10 points behind Rovers with a goal difference of 16 to ours, in effect that is 13 points adrift of us I'd love to know how you've come to that conclusion.
CrazyIvan Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I'd love to know how you've come to that conclusion. Yep, better goal difference is only ever worth 1/2 a point. It can only ever come in to effect once two teams are on the same points, hence the 1/2 a point.
1864roverite Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Wheras the extra 3 points wouldnt come in handy to out do the goal difference between the two clubs would it ? The point I was making was that WBA have to gat an extra 3 points more than Rovers to counterbalance it so therefore as you cannot win half a point the three will have to do.

I know I've just got back from the pub but am I missing something here ? One point for a draw ?

Again, I'd still love to know how you've come to that conclusion. Its pretty simple really. If between now and the end of the season WBA make up 10 points on us, we'll still finish above them. If they make up 11 then we'll finish below them. The GD isn't enough to make up that whole point, hence the figurative "1/2 point" comment. In no way is our superior goal difference worth 3 points.
broadsword Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Academic, but I agree that GD is just worth one point. But WBA making up ground on us is about as likely as the Bride of Wildenstein doing an FHM look-at-my-monkey photoshoot. They are are the Titanic with a Barry Manilow Copcabana hemaphrodite beach party up on deck - they're going down and it's a nightmare in so many ways for them.
