Backroom Tom Posted April 7, 2009 Backroom Posted April 7, 2009 Surely the gap between 18th and us is all that counts? I'd rather any team below us lose where possible or draw if playing each other

thenodrog Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Man Utd drew with Porto, which may help us indirectly. They play Sunderland next, so with them needing a win in Portugal, they will rest a number of players such as Ronaldo and Rooney. Then, if Sunderland get something, and Newcastle lose again, a big gap would open up betwee 17th and 18th place. eh? What strange logic. Personally I want Man Utd to hammer Sunderland out of sight.
Whyoy Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Just to put our troubles and lack of funds into perpective, Sky Sports News are stating that Protsmouth have reported a £16.6 million loss in the year they went to the FA Cup Final.......now which Premier league team were some journalists speculating might go into administration this year??
Hughesy Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I'd take Martins from Newcastle. Been off the boil, but Sam is renowned for getting players back on track. He would also inject that missing pace up front. Exactly - he has raw pace and that is something we really lack when attacking.
Backroom DE. Posted April 7, 2009 Backroom Posted April 7, 2009 I have a Geordie friend who complains about Martins so often that it's put me off wanting him here. On the other hand, Newcastle does seem to be a graveyard for decent players, maybe we could revive him. Certainly can't be any worse of a finisher than Roberts, or any less fit than McCarthy, or any more injury prone than Santa Cruz.
Hughesy Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 He is an excellent finisher - he has pace - and he has strength and power in both his play and his shooting ability is quality, finally he isnt bad in the air either. Watch This vid & at 1.11 and 2.17, 3.03 - Tell me one player we have even close to capable of those goals
Fraserkirky Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Martins would be a sensational buy, I honestly think he would come here as well. Anyone who doesn't think he would be better than JR,BM and MD is smoking better ###### than I've got! Would take Duff for cheap maybe, even having lost a yard of pace, would still be more productive than the illusive MGP. Gonna get abuse for this but Barton was easily Newcastle's best player before he was injured, off-field problems obviously a deterant. Wheater would be good, but we dont need another centre half, Samba, nelson, zurab and hopefully Givet, is plenty. Would take Alves for cheap(1-2m), something there obviously had a shocker this year, but was scary good when he first arrived at boro. brom have a few good midfielder's as well who would walk into our team in James morrison and Valero. Possibly also Zuiverloon for right back.
47er Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Who would you guys have from the teams likely to go down (Boro, Newcastle, WBA, Sunderland and Portsmouth) Me: Tuncay (Boro) Wheater (Boro) Downing (Boro) Richardson (Sunderland) Davis (Pompey) Traore (Pompey) Taylor (New) Martins (New) That's it for me Huth?
Iceman Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I would prefer Crouch over Martins for some strange reason. I watched the lad Edin Dzeko against Bayern, and he was ace. Doubt we will get him as his price might have shot up, after 2 goals against Bayern. Koren(sp) aint that bad from West Brom, but i wouldnt touch players from teams going down. We need to look at better players, can we afford those quality is the problem though.

Billy Castell Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 eh? What strange logic. Personally I want Man Utd to hammer Sunderland out of sight. My thinking is that the bottom 3 will be entombed, and then we can relax and not look over our shoulder and worry. A draw whilst the barcodes lose again would be ideal. I want the 3 relegation places sorted out ASAP. There is a sense of logic.

My memory might be playing tricks on me..again, but in early April 1999 our fate was still in our own hands. The rest is history. Two differences from then to now: 1. Better players 2. Worse manager.
Grabbi Graeme Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Liverpool 1-0 up against Chelsea Torres the scorer, although Chelsea have just fluffed a chance to hit straight back. 1-1 now good goal from the corner, set pieces may be our only hope on Saturday, Drogba has missed 2 great chances to give Chelsea the lead.
Fraserkirky Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Roll another spliff fraserkirky and then let us know who you think Newcastle, Sland etc will take off us if we quite easily are the club to go down. Ha sure nae bother, Samba Warnock possibly MGP RSC Robinson McCarthy I would think thats about it. Yourself? On a side note liverpool's top guys played alot of minutes tonight, dare I say cheeky draw at weekend!
Backroom DE. Posted April 9, 2009 Backroom Posted April 9, 2009 I doubt Samba will be as effective against Liverpool's back four as Spuds amusing excuse for a defence. Is RSC still injured, and if so, does that leave Benni Mac as our only "fit" striker (not including Diouf) ?
Presty On Tour Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Martins would be a sensational buy, I honestly think he would come here as well. Anyone who doesn't think he would be better than JR,BM and MD is smoking better ###### than I've got! Since Ooijer scored the winner against the yids, I've been creative with some Dutch Passion Blueberry. Always been a favorite of mine since Amsterdam. The smooth fruity flavor explodes into a skyscraper relaxation high and has a balanced blend of THC, to keep the smiles and giggles over a longer period. Your view of Martins and Newcastle in general makes me think your on some kind of gear like Northern Lights. Used correctly it can become a top plant, a bit like Newcastle at football. Martins is a talent though his age has never been proven. If Newcastle were relegated I think he wouldn't come to any premier league club unless they were top 4 material. He would probably fancy a move abroad to warmer climates after the Antarctic Geordie land.

Two differences from then to now: 1. Better players 2. Worse manager. Well you couldn't get that much worse than Kidd. The likes of Samba, RSC and McCarthy are better than Waed, Peacock and Gillespie. Mind you, the midfield was more solid than it is now. McKinlay, Flitcroft, Dunn (the young, exciting version) and Wilcox has a steady feel to it. And only McKinlay could really be considered injury prone.
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Hamburg beat City 3-1 in the first leg of the Uefa Cup Quarter finals, though i heard it could have quite easily been 6 or 7-1.
