Bing Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Care to tell us who you're implying shouldn't be sat on our bench at the moment? Was just a general point about how our team looks to be being set up at present with size and strength valued over talent and ability. Specifically, Carlos would be the obvious name to mention. There is no reason (besides Big Sam's hoofball dogma) why he couldn't be played in a wide position, told to fill in when we lose the ball and then be relatively free to go central and get involved once we are in possession - as for example Everton do with Arteta.
Guest Kamy100 Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Glad the scousers didnt win. We needed them to win today so that they still feel that they are in the championship race as they play Hull on Saturday.
neekoy Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 United champs again. I don't know why people are rushing to make this asssumption, as it sits Liverpool is top of the table, United still need to get points from two games yet to play. It is not like they have been setting the world on fire lately. Whilst I think United will probably win the league, it will be because Liverpool can't stop goals being scored against them and not from United being a superior team.
Shaddy Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Whilst I think United will probably win the league, it will be because Liverpool can't stop goals being scored against them and not from United being a superior team. Um... but ManU can stop goals being scored against them. Doesn't that make them the superior team? Liverpool's attack is better, but ManU's attack is good as well as having better defense. That makes them better balanced and superior in my books (and to my chagrin). Especially if they win the title (which looks very likely now).
modes98 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 We needed them to win today so that they still feel that they are in the championship race as they play Hull on Saturday. They still have to win, they have to win every game. Equally their form is such that I can't see them not putting 5 or 6 past Hull.
rover6 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I know Liverpool have been scoring goals for fun recently but I tell you, take Arsene Wenger out of the Premier League and the English game is far, far poorer. For all his myopic delusions, the guy has football ideals, which include a duty to entertain (most of the time). Admirable, also, is his club's insistence on a certain wage structure. Emmanuel Petit recently found fault with this, insisting that Arsenal can't compete unless they pay higher wages - his argument slightly weakened by his examples of supposed great recent player losses, Hleb and Flamini (neither of whom are truly outstanding).

Hughesy Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 We needed them to win today so that they still feel that they are in the championship race as they play Hull on Saturday. I think it only increases the importance to Liverpool. Lose and they are defintley out of it, they will still want to keep the pressure on, and I would expect them to go on a strong run now. As for Arsene Wenger - When was the last time Arsenal won the a trophy? (04-05?) He is probably the only manager that can get by year after year without winning anything at a top club and survive. For the money he has spent he should of achieved more.

So really it was just like many posts on here recently - having a dig just for the sake of it since it has no real foundation. If you're comparing Villanueva to Arshavin then it's even worse than I thought. Carlos doesn't play on the wing because he makes Tugay look like Speedy Gonzalez. There's probably a decent player in there somewhere, but not in the Premiership.
T4E Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Carlos doesn't play on the wing because he makes Tugay look like Speedy Gonzalez. There's probably a decent player in there somewhere, but not in the Premiership. Are you sure about that? At worst, he's at the MGP level where he could go a couple of seasons being pretty anonymous but grabbing a few goals. With the shot/set piece ability he's got, he will score goals if he gets a run in the side.
Hughesy Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Agree with T4E - to me Villanueva has bags of ability, we just need a better system which will allow him to sparkle. Next season, 2nd season in prem, better midfield around him, and maybe a pacey attack would see much more from him. I think we should try to extend his loan or reduce the fee so its heavily reliant on appearances/ goals etc.
LeChuck Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Pedersen is decent in the air and covers a hell of a lot of ground. I don't doubt his set piece ability but I'm just not sure what else he could bring to the Premiership given his physical limitations.
Hughesy Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Pedersen whilst tries hard, just has lost his confidence completely. He needs a fresh start. We had a great chance to equalise at Stoke, he had got past his full-back and instead of playing a simple ball along the ground, he smashed it over everyone in the box.

blue/white Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 He reminds me of a young Zola I hope you mean Emile, Neekoy.... b/c besides their surnames there's not a thing Morton Gamst shares w/ the great Italian.
Backroom Tom Posted April 22, 2009 Backroom Posted April 22, 2009 Did he not mean Carlos reminds him of a young zola? I'm lost
blue/white Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Did he not mean Carlos reminds him of a young zola? I'm lost sorry.... jumped the gun a bit there-- But i'll maintain that a Carlos /Zola comparison is not any better.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 United 0-2 Tottenham. Interesting. And Big Club 1-0 Preston = bad. Burnley are pretty certain of a play-off spot now. 2 sent off for Brum. Probably a fight, one from either team. United 2-2 Tottenham. Big Club 1-1 Preston. United 3-2 Tottenham. Vinjay must be weeping.
Iceman Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 2-2 now in the United vs Spurs game. Good game this! Oops make that 3-2. Champions stuff this from United 4-2 now United, Spurs completely losing it now lol
brfcshabba Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 United helped by Webb, 4-2 Iceman - You're behind!!!
leftfooter Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 United helped by Webb, 4-2 Terrible decision by Webb. Bad result for us - let's hope Liverpool aren't totally drained of Title motivation by the time they play Newcastle.
