Hasta Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Yep. Finished 0-0. Newcastle huffed and puffed for 60 mins then ran out of ideas. Too many pleayers past their best and too many not good enough. I think they're screwed.

Backroom Tom Posted April 27, 2009 Backroom Posted April 27, 2009 Nice result for us, honestly shocked they didn't win, as poor as they've been I thought they'd get there on will alone against a prettty much safe pompey team. A loss for them would have been better but we can't be too greedy. The best news is one of Newcastles easier games is now gone without a win.
Backroom DE. Posted April 27, 2009 Backroom Posted April 27, 2009 I've said all along Newcastle are crap, and tonight proves it. can't see them getting enough points now to survive.
T4E Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Absolutely love it. They're history, and I can honestly say if there's one team I would have wanted to go down its them.
Backroom Tom Posted April 27, 2009 Backroom Posted April 27, 2009 They're not down yet but it's getting harder for them, lets hope Liverpool turn up next week and we can sneak a point, 3 games left and 7 points ahead would be nice
Backroom DE. Posted April 27, 2009 Backroom Posted April 27, 2009 If Hull beat Stoke at home it is game over for Newcastle. That team will struggle to pick up another win this season. Teeside derby will definately decide one of the relegation places...
Mozzer Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 newcastle still have two winnable home games - middlesbrough and fulham.. id be worried if i was a sunderland or a hull fan-i cant either of those winning any of their remaining matches..
philipl Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 They are not down and out yet. You didn't see them tonight then.
Backroom DE. Posted April 27, 2009 Backroom Posted April 27, 2009 Most of the people saying they think Newcastle will stay up or that they can still survive generally have not watched them this season. I've been convinced since January that they were going down and I feel the same now. Their team has no creativity, kind of like us at times, but unlike us they have no desire and no passion. For the last 30 minutes tonight it was Portsmouth who looked like the relegation threatened team, and Portsmouth came closest (3 times) to winning the match. How many more "must-win"/"winnable" matches do Newcastle have to draw/lose before people realise the writing is on the wall? The only way they will get out of it is for Hull and Sunderland to lose all of their games from now until the end of the season. Admittedly, in both cases that is possible, but as it stands, Newcastle are staring Championship football in the face, and they have nobody but themselves to blame.
Backroom Tom Posted April 27, 2009 Backroom Posted April 27, 2009 Toon now need to beat Fulham and Boro and take a point off liverpool or villa and we need to lose all ours for them to catch us. A good target would be to seal mathematical safety at the pompey game to make the last 2 games a bit more relaxed.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 You didn't see them tonight then. I watched every minute.
tcj_jones Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I'm praying for Hull to pick up a win, because I think it will send Newcastle down. Just imagine how busy the summer will be if the likes of Coloccini, Beye, Taylor, Duff, Gutierrez, Butt, Guthrie, Owen, Martins, Viduka, Wheater, Huth, Downing, Tuncay and Alves are all sold / released.

thenodrog Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 The only person I feel sorry for is Mike Ashley. eh? I'm guessing that you're taking the p1ss there?
Mr. E Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 They are not down and out yet. I've calculated that they'll go down by one point. (currently 3 ahead) They've got Pool, Villa, Boro, Fulham - 6 points maximum. Hull have Villa, Stoke, Bolton, Man Un (who will be champions by then) - 4 points is quite achievable.
Iceman Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I cant see Newcastle getting more than 4 points from their final games. Liverpool- lose Villa- lose Boro- win Fulham- draw
FINRover Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Hmmm.. Liverpool- lose Villa- draw Boro- win Fulham- win NUFC total points 38.
philipl Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Hmmm.. Liverpool- lose Villa- draw Boro- win Fulham- win NUFC total points 38. There would have to be a dramatic improvement over last night's performance to get results like that.
thenodrog Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 There would have to be a dramatic improvement over last night's performance to get results like that. I find it's best to always assume the worst. On that basis we need more points. It'd be stupid to take our collective foot off the gas. Not necessarily. Pompey were scrapping for their lives too. Villa and Fulham are hardly form teams are thay? End of season matches rarely pay much regard to the league table
Guest Kamy100 Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 With last night's result I would say 2 more points would make Rovers safe.
hawkiiz Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 how are they going to pick up points from fulham and villa? they are pushing for europe, and playing very well. newcastle look like they have totally lost the plot. even the fans left the stadium 5 minutes from time yesterday. they are totally out of it. i believe they will win at boro, and maybe pick a point from the other three if they are lucky. even alan shearer was standing in the tunnel looking into the wall yesterday when it was 5 minutes from time. a complete mess.
Guest Vinjay606 Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 how are they going to pick up points from fulham and villa? Perhaps the same way Villa's last 9 league opponents have picked up points against them. Fulham have still been poor away from home for the majority of this season. A couple of away wins this year though most recently at COMS.
Eddie Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 There would have to be a dramatic improvement over last night's performance to get results like that. They didn't play very well and Portsmouth could have scored, but Newcastle had their fair share of chances.
LeChuck Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Toon now need to beat Fulham and Boro and take a point off liverpool or villa and we need to lose all ours for them to catch us. That's not quite right, Newcastle already have slightly better goal difference than us. If we lost all our remaining games two wins and two losses would be enough for Newcastle. Still seems very unlikely though.
