Guest Vinjay606 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Ha! Fletcher sent off for a fair challenge and will miss the final. No appeal apparently. Penalty for Arsenal. Goal.

T4E Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Penalty to Arsenal. Absolutely gutted for Fletch, great tackle and now out of the final. Can that be rescinded?
Backroom DE. Posted May 5, 2009 Backroom Posted May 5, 2009 Very bad decision, if Fletcher can't appeal I feel sorry for him.
adopted scouser Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Penalty to Arsenal. Absolutely gutted for Fletch, great tackle and now out of the final. Can that be rescinded? Pathetic decision - he clearly got the ball
Guest Vinjay606 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Penalty to Arsenal. Absolutely gutted for Fletch, great tackle and now out of the final. Can that be rescinded? Apparently not.
Backroom Tom Posted May 5, 2009 Backroom Posted May 5, 2009 I hate Darren Fletcher so on a personal level I have no sympathy for him, however a harsh decision. He'll get it rescinded though via the 'United ruling'
T4E Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Apparently not. Not cool Vinjay, I've got no time for United either but thats an absolute shocker that will only affect one man, not the team himself. Fletcher is a good honest player who has been robbed of the biggest night of his career. Biggest competition in World football at club level and it can't be appealed. Diabolical.
Backroom DE. Posted May 5, 2009 Backroom Posted May 5, 2009 TCO, Why do you hate him, has he done something to you personally? Can't believe he can't appeal that, the ref has cost him the chance of playing in a Champions League final.
67splitscreen Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Could be worse, at least with manure, he'll get another chance next season.
adopted scouser Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 And then Adebayor dirty b***ard gets away with it. Glad they're out, poofs.
Backroom Tom Posted May 5, 2009 Backroom Posted May 5, 2009 Honestly DE4life it's for something so pathetic that I can't even remember, hate was a bad choice of word Maybe time to let that one go. The fact is there is no appeals process it will be a disgrace IMO if the card does get rescinded, even though its a disgrace that he should be banned. Catch 22 situation Edit: upon reading this makes no sense. What i mean is the decsions was a shocker but if the rules are changed to allow him to play then that is worse. Rules are rules are rules no matter how stupid. It would be like the time Liverpool got the rules change to allow them into Europe.

Backroom DE. Posted May 5, 2009 Backroom Posted May 5, 2009 I'm no bigger a fan of Man Yoooo than any other Rovers supporter, but I think that card should get rescinded, and I'd say that about any team and any player. Clearly the wrong decision, there's not even any doubt. Even Beglin admitted it.
Backroom Tom Posted May 5, 2009 Backroom Posted May 5, 2009 See above T4E, the rules are set at the start of the season and shouldn't be changed now no matter how extreme the situation.

Ah I get ya, not so much that it shouldn't be rescinded, more that the rules shouldn't be changed now. Can't really argue with that.
Backroom DE. Posted May 5, 2009 Backroom Posted May 5, 2009 Hmm, I suppose. What's more shocking is that there isn't an appeal procedure in place.
tony gale's mic Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Yeah I've always liked Fletcher, makes the most of the talent he's got and isn't an excrable human being like half of the big four players. Gutted for him.
Backroom Tom Posted May 5, 2009 Backroom Posted May 5, 2009 Yup, thats it, for once Sir alex will be justified with his issues. As much as i have disliked Fergie over the years when you look at what he has done and is still doing you have to respect him. At teh same time I have enourmous respect for the man in the opposite dugout and his devout football policies, they truly are the greatest 2 managers of the generation on these shores. Apologies for my earlier childish remarks about Fletcher, not quite sure what it is but the blokes always got on my wick.
Backroom DE. Posted May 5, 2009 Backroom Posted May 5, 2009 Fletcher's actually come on remarkably as a footballer in the past few years. Quiet lad who plays the game the right way and stays out of the spotlight. Shame for him, he deserved to play in the final.
Claytons Left Boot Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Gutted for the lad. Yet another example of how video technology could (and should) be used to improve decision making. When the ref reviews that, I think he'll feel rather bad but one thing is sure, not as bad as Fletcher.
T4E Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Unbelievably Andy Townsend has just made an excellent point. If somebody threw a punch on the pitch and the ref missed it, the mechanism is in place for it to be dealt with, possibly with a suspension, at a later date. Seems a bit remiss that it can work that way but not the other.
Backroom DE. Posted May 5, 2009 Backroom Posted May 5, 2009 I turned it off after the final whistle.... Townsend never seems to be able to shut up, even when other people are talking.
Guest Vinjay606 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Would be so much less to talk about with video remakes. Controversial decisions make the game interesting and I can't understand why any newspapers would be in favor. Wonder what Mr Nixon thinks about the issue. I'm sure it will be brought in sometime unfortunately. I have no sympathy for Fletcher at all. It was the only thing to cheer for tonight. The day I feel sorry for a Man United player I'll visit the doctors for a scan to see what's wrong.
