Manc Rover Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Something I have also been saying for ages in accordance with the Academies Agree about Lampard though Yeah, if someone like Roy Keane, Terry Butcher or even Jamie Carragher said it then fair enough but Frank Lampshade? Do me a favour! Rant over, back to work!

Eddie Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 What's the difference between Carragher and Lampard? They're basically the same age. It has nothing to do with how he is treated now, but how he was treated as a youngster coming through.

LeftWinger Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I watched a little bit of Boro and Sheff Utd last night. One player that caught my eye was Adam Johnson. Looks like a potentially fantastic winger. Beat his man time and time again. Afonso Alves is starting to look sharper too - think he'll do well for them. They deserved the win despite it being a really scabby goal. Did anyone see the tackle Beattie did at the end of extra time? He ran back the length of the pitch and put in a last ditch tackle that Bobby Moore would have been proud of. I wonder if he could finish his career at centre-half?
rover6 Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Yeah, I saw the game. Adam Johnson does look excellent and as he proved at Watford, he can score goals. Surely, Downing could play right and Johnson left? Arca and Rochemback (sp?!) looked a very, very weak central midfield duo. Even our lot would probably fancy their chances against them. The game as a whole was DIABOLICAL. Sheffield Utd were terrible and Boro only marginally better. This is the problem with English football. I know Utd are an out-of-form CHamp side and Boro are managed by - let's be brutally honest - a 3rd rater, but the standard was hopeless. Kick, rush, kick, rush, rush, kick... There are players earning millions out there and they simply could not get the ball down and pass the bleeding ball. What does it say about the Prem and Championship if Sheff Utd and Boro are successfully treading water in their respective leagues? BEst league in the world, my behind. BTW: Jon Stead, except for a moment of skill when he took down a cross in the box and then fired wide, looked a total loser - although, for some absurd reason he was playing right wing. WOrk that one out.
Billy Castell Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Put £1 on Boro going down next season. Southgate is a bad manager, but Gibson is unusually patient with his managers.

Last of the big spenders! I actually think you'll lose your pound. They've got some decent youngsters - and I think a fully-fit Alves will score the goals to keep them up.

I'm sure this is the guy I mentioned about after we played Boro away at the beginning of the season ( thought he was called Taylor though unless I got the name or player wrong)

CAPT KAYOS Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Maybe you're getting confused with Taylor I think Johnson got about 5 minutes as a sub against us at the start of the season - Andrew Taylor is a defender. Nope definitely him -just got the name wrong Didn't see him last night but was certainly impressed with what I saw in that game at Boro. Looks better than Downing to me.

Looks better than Downing to me. Yeah he looks better than Downing to me - and I like Downing. I'm actually jealous of Middlesborough in some ways. I'd love to have as many good youngsters coming through our ranks. Downing, Cattermole, Adam Johnson, Wheater, Taylor, Hines, Grounds, Turnbull, McMahon Gives you a great base to build upon when you've got a quality spine of home-grown talent.
Grabbi Graeme Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Anyone see Fergies interview after the Man U game today, the inerviewer mentioned that Utd would have gone top if Arsenal hadn't scored in added on time. Fergie replied "yes the usual 7mins added time at Arsenal" Would that be the same as play until Utd score the winner at Old Trafford then
Plastic Head Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Elano is going to be the Premiership sensation. What a midfielder he is. If Man Citeh can keep this spirit going, they'll be a real contestant for Europe! Elano has head problems. Been found out now. City not looking so good now eh?
Hasta Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Two games to be interested in today. Bolton V Liverpool Everton V Portsmouth Everton are 5 points clear of us with a game in hand. Obviously we don't want a Pompey win. A draw still takes Pompey above us. Is it time to cut Everton loose, say they are too far clear and hope that they win??
Eddie Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 I think so. Certainly either has to be an Everton win or a draw.
philipl Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 What we didn't want for sure was for Juusi to be a prat and gift Liverpool a soft goal. On another track, anyone else noticing that according to the press, Chelsea, Arsenal and Man U are all struggling to hang onto key players this summer. Just goes to show the extent to which journos make things up and/or listen to avericious agents all racing each other to make their man the next £100k a week wage "earner".
grizfoot Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 2-0 Liverpool now. On the bright side at least this keeps Notlob in real trouble.
Hasta Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 For Bolton how bad is that Steinsson at full back. He was taken off after 40 minutes after babel just kept skinning him. This is the same guy that allowed MGP to look good last weekend. Not only is he contributing to Boltons downfall, but they've paid 3.5 million for the privilege !
Mr. E Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Everton are just too consistent I'm afraid. It's between them and Pool for 4th. Personally, I'm rooting for the Toffees.
Grabbi Graeme Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 West Ham now conceaded 8 goals in 2 games, which is good for us as their goal difference is now 0
