Since it is now apparently prohibited to discuss other clubs takeovers in the takeover thread I will repost this here.

This article makes reference to a takeover rumour at Everton. I haven't read anything in the media about this. Maybe it's just an internal club rumour which has leaked out to fans. Kind of like the one on here recently. Anyone (A.Nixon perhaps) heard anything about this?

It sets a scary precedent if agreed, where is the line drawn on appeals?

I thought compassionate grounds was if a family member died or was seriously ill, and you needed time off work or whatever. I did not realise it meant they have to feel sorry for you because you made a needless tackle and the ref thought it was a foul and sent you off. You cannot surely, however unjust the sending off may have been, change the rules just because you feel sorry for the guy. Campaign to get the rule changed so that it doesn't happen again, but not make an exception for this guy in this year's tournament

West Ham owner £300m in debt.

How would that affect the Whammers? A quick sale perhaps? Or a decline akin to Southampton.

"West Ham insiders, though, insist they are wholly confident of meeting the conditions required to receive a Uefa club licence - needed if they qualify for the Europa League - and will submit the necessary accounts to the Premier League and FA before the May 31 deadline." Submitted personally by hand by a smiling Trevor Brooking with one trouser leg rolled up and his shirt open wide I guess.

Anyone see the Gary Megson interview the other day on SSN?

He mentioned how Chelsea's "long ball" tactic worked for them VS Barcelona, as Chelsea do not have the same amount of skill as Barcelona, so were forced to play long balls up to Drogba.

He then went on to mention, when his Bolton side emply that tactic VS other teams, they get slated for it.

Talked a lot of sense in my view. When the "top 4" play a long ball, it all of a sudden has a different meaning, and Andy Gray makes it sound better  . It's no different to Rovers nor any other side that employs that tactic.

Similarly Villa who have spent the season punting it to one corner flag or another setting up Agbonlahor or Luke Young in a sprint vs the full back. This is known as Martin O'Neil's tactical wondrousness.

No it's called keep doing it and you'll get found out, which is exactly what has happened to villa and why everyone else has now realised that they are really not very good if you stop them doing it. and yes, I did realise you weren't serious.

I reckon Ferguson knows that coming out and slating the ref will get him nowhere and he's being very shrewd here. He's giving UEFA an opportunity to appear benevolent and "do the right thing". If they don't go for it, United and Fergie come out of it with the moral high ground and UEFA look bad. If UEFA do go for it, he's got what he wanted. The flip side is that he is standing by his fellow countryman, a move which will further motivate the lad in future. Canny Scot, if you ask me.

I have to say, Fletcher's reaction after being sent off was a credit to him. It was certainly polarised by the Chelsea players' reactions which, if anything, will make Fletcher's case stronger. Not that he really has a case given the rules.

But rules didn't stop Liverpool defending their Champions' League trophy...

Interesting paragraph in todays Guardian - " The Uefa general secretary ( Mr. David Taylor ) added " I have spoken with with Alex Ferguson personally on this- as fate would have it we shared a car together after the match. We were rather thrown together but had an interesting discussion. I tried to give Alex as much advice as I could with regards to the procedure in these circumstances.

Funny thing fate isn't it ? Can you Imagine Fergie needing to go halves on a cab fare ????????

Just noticed Alan Hutton starts at right midfield ahead of David Bentley today for Tottenham. Pretty interesting and nice to see how he is furthering his career and playing regularly at a big club! I would argue he is getting what he deserves after the way he treated us

Hull are going down, they've given either Boro or Newcastle a real chance to stay up. WBA are 3-1 up against an awful Wigan team ! Wow. Things are getting interesting.
