Roar of the Rover Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Grant just can't do it for the big games, games that matter, Arsenal Away - loss, Liverpool Home - Draw, Carling Cup Final - Loss, Spurs Away - Draw and losing to Barnsley doesn't help.

bellamy11 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 That's just one game. Take a look at a lot of their results over the season plenty of 1-0 scorelines. Six, which is respectable. And two 4-4 draws!

thenodrog Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Didn't your king rafa lose to Barnsley? All knowledge of that match will already have been erased from his memory banks Bazza. By erasing the truth myths are perpetuated.
thecomebackid Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Are we entering a new era pf Newspeak with the Premier League megaliths and their lick spittle lackeys at the FA? 'Alex Ferguson tells players: respect the referee' http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtm...2/sfnwin122.xml As Orwell opined: "It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words."
philipl Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 We can no longer win the Premiership, but we should also be mathematically safe from the drop today also!
thenodrog Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 We can no longer win the Premiership, but we should also be mathematically safe from the drop today also! Damn! I suppose thats that then..... until next season!
RibbleValleyRover Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Some key matches for us today: Tottenham v Portsmouth- Could do with a draw here. I hate Spurs so i don't want to see a Spurs win even if it might be better for us if thats the result. Aston Villa v Sunderland- Always tricky facing teams near the bottom of the league fighting for survival. Villa have looked a shadow of their former self, due to injuries and a loss of form. A sunderland win would be nice. Bolton v Man City- Man city again like Villa not looking that good at the moment. I could see a draw here. Of course if these results go our way it will mean nothing unless we get 3 points from our game.

It seems the normally servile BBC have spotted the irony in this one: Sir Alex Ferguson reckons referees should be shown more respect. Next week, Heather Mills gives her tips on public relations.
Wolves_Rover Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Is Fergy speaking to the BBC these days or still 'boycotting' them?
RibbleValleyRover Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Is Fergy speaking to the BBC these days or still 'boycotting' them? I think he is still boycotting them.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Aaron Lennon must be the worst crosser in the Premier League. He's not had a decent cross yet and most are either scuffed crosses along the floor which rarely beat the defender or an over hit cross way into the stands. How some fans still rate him better than Bentley I will never know!
RibbleValleyRover Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Spurs leading Pompey 2-0. Good result for us i guess...
tcj_jones Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Lennon does everything right until the end product, which is usually either a shocking cross or a selfish attept to score. I used to rate him so highly, but his end product seems to have got worse over the last few years.

I used to rate him so highly, but his end product seems to have got worse over the last few years. I agree as do my Spurs fan mates. He's too much like SWP-but at least SWP has the odd game where your simply in awe of the guys ability (obviously not so much for England, but see Chelsea v West Ham last season for example). That is why that if it isn't Beckham for the right midfield birth then it has to be Bentley-with SWP coming on as an impact player.
tony gale's mic Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Apparently Sunderland have dominated at Villa Park...
RibbleValleyRover Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Apparently Sunderland have dominated at Villa Park... Ever since Curtis Davies got injured, they have looked real shaky at the back.
Eddie Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Aaron Lennon must be the worst crosser in the Premier League. He's not had a decent cross yet and most are either scuffed crosses along the floor which rarely beat the defender or an over hit cross way into the stands. How some fans still rate him better than Bentley I will never know! It's really quite simple, he has pace. In terms of technical ability you can't compare, but pace will trouble any defender and opens up options for the rest of the team, it also catches the eye a lot more than a good cross.
Hughesy Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Interesting that SWP, Jenas and young have all been dropped from the england squad - Looks like Bentley is winning his war with SWP. Piece of advise Mr Bentley - For the good of your career, stick with Mark Hughes
Eddie Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Well, more importantly, stick at a club where you play every week.
philipl Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Something to watch for- the Icelandic Krone is in freefall and all their banks are in such a deep mess that the Icelandic Central Bank is too small to rescue them even if it wanted to. I guess West Ham could be a fire sale very soon. Either the club itself will get sold or they might chose to strip the Eggman's over-paid mercenaries off the payroll. West Ham would still be a decent-ish side without Neill, Belamy and Upson. At the moment, the Sheffield United arbitration over Tevez with the Blades asking for £50m to be awarded makes West Ham unsaleable except at a massive discount. No doubt the refusal to fund any transfers is because the club is aware it might well have to find, say, £15m when the arbitration is struck. The parties to the arbitration of course know exactly how it is going which makes it different from the buttock-clenching moment when a High Court judge delivers his judgement but West Ham cannot wish away the Sheff U claim for £50m until the arbitration is finally signed and settled.
Hasta Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Bizarre and irritating scenes at old Trafford. Torres booked for complaining politely to Steve Bennet that he was being repeatedly fouled. Then Mascherano, who does admittedly run 20 yards to question that booking, is given a second yellow card by Bennet for dissent. Replays show that the Argentine is smiling and hardly 'aggresive' to the ref. Once again a referee has made an awful call and ruined a game of football. Fans pay hard earned money to watch competitve games and it is constantly ruined by referees producing the red card for two bookings way too easily. Maybe it's the fault of the laws and not the official. There was no lack of respect shown in the incident. In fact the biggest lack of respect was the referees inability to even talk or explain anything to the players. Bennett has been week and has reacted to recent events. I'm sure Hackett, Poll and several others will support and back him. Either way it is a rather petty and trivial way to ruin a game off football. As it's at Old Trafford in front of 70000 Mancs I wonder if Ronaldo will get booked every time he fails to get a free kick and throws his arms up in disgust? I don't think so either. Weak.

Completely agree, as incidents of dissent go, I wouldn't have classed either as particularly serious - there's absolutely no way he would have done that had it been atv Anfield.
