I cant see City approaching Rovers for Hughes and co. I think he has already got his man in place and that man is big Phil Scolari.

City wont just see the end of SGE without having a ready made replacement. Rumours amongst City supporters is that they have already have their man and a big signing is due to be announced a week on Monday.

SGE talk City players out of strike action. This could cut one of two ways- City performances imploding or exploding into 6 points from their last two games forcing Rovers to have two win twice. City could stick Boro deep into relegation trouble if they stir themselves and Brum, Reading and Bolton all win this week-end.

What did Curbishley think he was doing? We all know Curbishley-managed sides give up after Christmas but it seems he now wants to play Premier League Champion-maker. Whatever happened to the spirit of Ludo at West Ham?

Arsenal fire their MD after surrendering the Premier League leadership. Looking for an operator in the transfer market and brand builder.

Well we were all banging on about how United are now only sign players with pace. Ashton has to be one of the slowest in the league! Also there is something about him that suggests to me he doesn't want to go anywhere to sit on the bench which is all he would do at Old Trafford most of the time.

I am certain united can easily afford a striker who is big and powerful, technically gifted and quick. No need to pick up a disgruntled player from a midtable team.

Incidentally it is clear Ashton is one of the most technically gifted English centreforwards out there. The Engalnd national team has greatly suffered imo by the fact he is completely crocked, although that probably shows the paucity of English striker talent rather than anything else...

Apparently United are after a strong centre forward - with Ashton being linked!!

Isn't this just typical of the way players from smaller clubs are linked with the bigger club they are about to play?

That was my reaction too.

Villa are deeply unimpressed by Liverpool's offer for Barry. Hopefully they will resist and set a pattern of clubs in the top half resisting the advances of the Big 4.

Villa are deeply unimpressed by Liverpool's offer for Barry.

O'Neill was quoted on the radio as saying that the offer they had received was a sort of mish mash of player exchanges rather than a straight cash offer so it's hardly surprising if it receives short shrift.

More often than not it seems to be the liverpool way to show interest at/bid ridiculously below the odds for a player - perhaps in an attempt to unsettle them?

No perhaps about it Rev. They weren't that happy when Chelsea came for Gerrard, were they.

Your very right about that Den.

Perhaps, and maybe it is my personal view, Liverpool have got a bit ahead of themselves recently when it comes to buying English based players. Benitez automatically thinks that in todays football climate, there are players who will break every sinew just to go to Anfield, on that score he is sorely wrong, clearly evidenced by players such as Bellamy, Crouch and more recently Pennant.

The Liverpool of today are not a very good example of a club that is hell bent on winning a Premiership title. it seems, to me, that the more they say they want it the less they actually do to go out and buy the CORRECT players required to challenge the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manure.

They are capable of the odd result but are incapable of removing the INCONSISTENT label dangling around their scouse necks

That reads like somebody at Liverpool has cobbled together some sort of offer without having the authority to spend any money.

Given the behind the scenes shambles, that is highly likely to be the case- neither Gillett nor Hicks will be writing any cheques at the moment, the banks will be looking for any excuse to limit their exposure to LFC they can, Parry knows 50% of the shareholding wants his hide and Benitez knows that Parry, Gillett and Hicks have all plotted to get rid of him in different ways at different times during the current season. Any approach on LFC- headed paper is bound to be responded to by "Hello, but who am I talking to?"

Without saying anything perjorative, Martin O'Neill has effectively blown Liverpool's credibility in the transfer market until they resolve their ownership issues by revealing the pathetic state the offer for Barry arrived in.

Looks like Curbs wasn't joking when he said Man U would win the Premiership. His West Ham outfit are a Charlton-esque disgrace on evidence thus far with sold in the summer Lucash directing traffic towards his own goal.

Chelski will be fuming and rightly so.

Bolton got the desperately needed lead against Sunderland but now need to hangon and if possible widen the winning margin.

As things stand, if there is a net swing of 10 goals in Bolton's defeat at Chelsea and Reading's win at Derby next week, Reading would send Bolton down on more goals scored if Fulham get a win at Pompey next Sunday.

Alan Curbishley is a pathetic manager.

Oh, red-card for Nani.

True... He has excuses coming from his mouth, ears, arsehole AND japseye... Every time he speaks it gives every excuse for his overpaid bunch of has beens to play ######. I'd be gutted if he was Rovers boss...

His players are supposed to think he's ###### too...

I came across this post on another forum by a Man City fan discussing what the next manager after Sven will have to do/achieve, it made me chuckle:

Wanted

man (or woman) with a dream

Must be able to convince mid table players they are good enough to finish top 4 in premier league.

Must complete year 2 objective for previous man in first year or else you are not good enough.

No money to spend unless chairman can get big name who doesn;t play that good anymore to sign in which case 30 million available.

Last manager loved by supporters so expect a bumpy ride with fans

If stadium doesn't get filled you will be sacked.

If you fail to improve on last year's 2 derby wins you will be sacked.

Even though year two objective is top 6, if at any time we are in top 4 and fail to stay there you will be sacked.

If you are realistic in your knowledge that certain players won't join the club you will be sacked.

oh yeah and can you please convince the captain to stay as well.
