City - Thaksin update

Shinawatras wife was jailed for 3 years yesterday for offences unconnected to Thaksins fraud charges...but it doesn't bode well for him, as the judges now seem to be totally independent after the coup last year, something that definately wasn't the case when he was in power.

He probably thought that as his political allies took power after the coup his charges would be dropped, but they are being pursued to the full. He has now been charged with a third set of fraud charges, now related to £500M that "disappeared" from the Thai national lottery.

There is a growing consensus that the new cases being brought will, if successful, make it very difficult for him to re-secure his £800M.

His main chance of escape seems to be a political decision to change the constitution by his allies to weaken the judiciary.

However this may provoke either A, another military coup or B, the political removal from power of the current government who have a very loose grip on things and are are the target of regular street protests.

Meanwhile, City fans have started a campaign to re-claim their identity from that of a Thai brothel.

I am still sure that Thaksin's only input has been the cash to buy the club. Nothing into transfers and wages as yet.

SSN must be bored...

Sky HD worked with top model agency D1 Model Management to study high definition footage of crowds from every Premier League match last season, and name the top 10 best-looking clubs as:

1. Liverpool

2. Fulham

3. Tottenham Hotspur

4. Sunderland

5. Chelsea

6. Newcastle United

7. Arsenal

8. Bolton Wanderers

9. West Ham United

10. Manchester United

Surely a mistake there!!

I must admit it does look a bit on the low side - second or third possibly! :D

Seriously, what planet are Newcastle United fans on????

In the last 50 years they have won promotion from what is now league 1 and what is now the championship, that is it! Until Keegan took over the first time they only averaged around 20,000 fans a game.

Why oh why do they still chirp on about being such a big club??

The only thing big about the club is the wage bill they have racked up over the last 10 years on mediocre players.

Tottenham Hotspur were last night on the verge of agreeing a £6.8 million fee to sign Vedran Corluka, which would take their spending on players this summer to more than £50 million.

The Croatia defender was used at right back by Manchester City last season, but Tottenham believe that he can replace Ledley King in the long term as a central-defensive partner for Jonathan Woodgate. Tottenham, who were unable to complete deals to sign Fernando Meira or Fabricio Collocini, have been looking for a centre back because of fitness concerns about King and the erratic form of Michael Dawson last season.

Tottenham were interested in signing Corluka in the middle of last year and playing him at right back, but they did not follow up their interest with a firm bid and the player moved to City from Dynamo Zagreb for a fee of up to £8 million last summer. Tottenham then signed Alan Hutton, the right back, from Rangers in January.

Corluka’s proposed move is not without complications, but it is likely to go through. City are willing to sell a player who made 35 league appearances last season so that they can fund a move for a recognised right back. They have enough cover in central defence, with Richard Dunne, Micah Richards, Nedum Onuoha, and Tal Ben-Haim, just signed from Chelsea. Onuoha’s opportunities were restricted last season, after a 2006-07 campaign in which he had established himself in the first team, and he is attracting interest from several clubs.

It's still getting worse for Thaksin.....

The Supreme Court's section for political office holders on Friday agreed to open a new case against ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra on charges of abuse of power in pushing a state loan to Burma to help his family's telecoms empire.

The court set September 16 as the first day of the trial which will examine whether Thaksin abused his position as prime minister when he ordered the state-owned EXIM Bank to extend a loan of 1 billion baht (30 million dollars) to Burma's military regime in 2004 to develop its telecommunications infrastructure to the benefit of Shin Corp, then owned by the Shinawatra family.

So Sparkys wages come from alleged illegal loans and monies allegedly stolen from the Thai Lottery. Not to mention the sale of land owned by the state to his companies and family for peanuts. This has already been proven.

Meanwhile the average wage in the country is £120 per month.
