DeadlyDirk Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 It is good to see City collapsing all over the place thanks to their dodgy owner who everyone seemed to know was a crook. They could be in serious trouble. We should put in a bid for Johnson, he could be keen to jump a sinking ship, he might not want to go, but might think its a better option than staying at the doomed City, the worst that can happen is it would trigger a bid from Liverpool or Arsenal or another club and at least we could laugh at City some more. Seeing Mark Hughes struggling at City is like when you bump into an ex girlfriend and see her with her ugly low life boyfriend and think to yourself, 'Wow you really did well for yourself after you left me!'

budha Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Interesting thing with City - is that they have enough saleable assets to get them out of immediate financial trouble. However, where that will leave them in terms of premiership survival is anyone's guess. Relegation from the Premiership would leave them in genuine trouble - unless somebody decides to bale them out. Do they? If they still owe £40M from last summer's transfers in installments + reported £15M of installments for Jo. That means that even if they sell let's say Jo, they probably can't even recuperate the £15M they still owe. All they have to actually sell are their own youngsters like Hart, Richards, Onuoha, Ireland and Johnson..
AussieinUk Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Some news off a Spurs board, that I just got emailed from a mate, just now (he didn't write this and he is not your typical 'gobby' Spurs fan). Some Arsenal going on... "I have some arsenal 'In the know' which I found out today, I can assure you, he has VERY close links with the Arsenal board and David Dein which is why I'm passing this info on with full confidence. There's probably a lot of info here which some of you were already aware of but IMO, it was good to get it backed up by someone who is definitely 'ITK'. A brief summary; 1. Veloso - they WERE interested but a lot has changed in the past 3 months. He said there is NO chance they will get him. They simply can't afford him at the moment. 2. I asked him why Arsenel has not spent heavily this summer and what was stopping him? He stated that Arsene would have had up to £25m for transfers this summer, but the board had to reluctantly cut the transfer kitty, as Highbury village has still a lot of unsold apartments (which were in the current budget). They have really suffered due to the fall in the housing market and the stadium costs have also accumulated. Wenger has been told that he does not have much liquid cash to spend and needs to sell, if he wants £10m+ buys. 3. They will go in for Inler and possibly another CB, although nothing major. Wenger has been frustrated that he is in a position, where he has had to sell players in order to fund transfers this summer. The transfer of Hleb (which everyone at the club was 'gutted' about) basically funded a bulk of their transfers. 4. They have also offered Adebayor a bumper contract to keep his mouth shut and stay put. The board was extremely 'peeved' with his attitude, but Wenger desperately wants to keep him. 5. Spurs came in for Diarra in January, before he went to Portsmouth, but Arsene said something on the lines of "no f***king way, can we sell to them!" 6. They (the board and management) are genuinely concerned about our (spurs) progress over the summer and he said that Ramos poses a huge threat, this season to the top four. They all know that Ramos knows how to challenge the big teams and believes that he will do this, with spurs what he did with Seville. 7. He said there are a few in the board who are already thinking "what could have been", as Wenger has not had the chance to get all the players he really wanted. 8. He admitted that the board were wrong, to not offer Flamini a lucrative, extended contract last season and took it for granted that he was still there. 9. He expects Wenger to stay for 3 more years. 10. Finally...he expects David Dein to be back at Arsenal at some point this season in a permanent role. 11. Forgot to mention this initially... it wasn't all doom and gloom apparently, they really have high hopes for Aaron Ramsey this season and think he will be a major star for them and that Carlos Vela will have a bigger impact this season then our (spurs) Giovanni. All info passed on, is in good faith. This is a person, who I hope to get further 'in the know' from in the future. It's always good to have someone who knows what's happening across the divide. It's amazing how the whole credit crunch thing and housing market crash has had such a significant effect on them" Now, take this as you want, but I though some bits were quite interesting..
Blue blood Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Some interesting stuff happening at other clubs. Some of the Arsenal stuff is common sense (who wouldn't be naffed off with Adabeyor sp? flirting with every big club going) but some of it is really interesting reading. Suprised they think Ramsey is that good, and the money thing is a wee bit of a suprise given they were the most profitable/mostt income/something like that club, a year or so ago. As for City it's turning into a nightmare. I can remember watching them pre Sven (last game of the season, and then in the FA Cup the season after) and commenting that they were an utter dire team. If the situation is as bad as it seems, then the team will quickly revert to that kind of quality. The youngsters will go to raise funds, and as for the foreign stars the board will be begging people to take their huge salaries off their hands. It could well be they're back to the quality of Dickov, Vassell, Samaras and Mepenza up front in the non too distant future.
Ronin Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 So it could be that the 8-1 drubbing from 'Boro on the last day was only the beginning of their troubles?
blammo Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Gathering momentum of rumours that three signings will be announced at newcastle in the next couple of days including possibly a major transfer coup
den Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Gathering momentum of rumours that three signings will be announced at newcastle in the next couple of days including possibly a major transfer coup Why would any of us be interested in Newcastle?
JAL Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 After reading some of the goings on at City and Arsenal, I see it as only fit and proper that Rovers DONT spend any money as it looks highly possible that the economics of the premiership could be just about to financially readjust themselves downwards to a more realistic reasonable level - the bubble could well be about to burst.
1864roverite Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Not premieship but Gullit has resigned at LA Galaxy whilst Alexis has been sacked as GM
blammo Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Why would any of us be interested in Newcastle? Why not? This is an "Other Premier League Happenings" thread is it not? Is Newcastle not a Premier League team? Is it not right to print their happenings in this thread? Is it just because you don't care? Seems to me that you have made a pretty asenine and worthless comment that I am not interested in
den Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Is it not right to print their happenings in this thread? Not unless it's rovers related, no.
blammo Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Not unless it's rovers related, no. considering the post above yours talks about the la galaxy - i am just going to assume your a prick
daren Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 wrong thread, I think Den "Other" Premier League happenings kinda covers everyone else. The tagline even says "All and sundry about other games". Admittedly no games, but then it is pre-seaason!
Hasta Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 You are joking with that Den I presume. At least put a smiley after your post so we know. Only Rovers related on Other Premier League Happenings.
Drakefyre Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Isn't the point of this thread to talk about the non-Rovers-related Premier League/world soccer happenings?
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Excellent article by Tim Vickery on south american players and their contribution to the English game: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/timvickery/2008...t_of_a_for.html
thenodrog Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Not unless it's rovers related, no. considering the post above yours talks about the la galaxy - i am just going to assume your a prick Now you've taken off your tin star you might find that it can be pretty tough out here Den.
den Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Now you've taken off your tin star you might find that it can be pretty tough out here Den. Oh yes, I remember now. I'd have banned him for that insult. Still not interested in Newcastle though.
blammo Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Oh yes, I remember now. I'd have banned him for that insult. Still not interested in Newcastle though. That's funny, cause you have a newcastle legend, and a current newcastle player in your signature.
brfcshabba Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Villa have agreed a fee with Rangers for Carlos Cuéllar
brian_gallagher85 Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Great that he's leaving Rangers....bad that Villa have signed him
philipl Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 That's funny, cause you have a newcastle legend, and a current newcastle player in your signature. You got the dreg ends of your legend's career- he was knocking them in at twice the rate for Rovers than he did at Newcastle and Duff is today a sad apology for the wizard who was raised and sparkled with Rovers.
John Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Villa have made some decent signings this summer. Gers fans rate Cuellar very highly. Seems to be a buzz around Villa at the moment. They have a manager who gets the best out of his players and a decent (seemingly) sensible owner. They also have bought players who are British or have played in the UK before as well (therefore unlikely to be any 'settling in' problems).
Bobby G Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Building a good team steadily but how many center backs do they need? Laursen, Davies, and Knight added to them will be Cuellar...
Flopsy Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Knight's a disaster that makes Amoruso look like Maldini, Davies ditto. They're short of full backs and have a squad thiner than Ste's hair. Oh and a second rate goalie from a second rate team
