The Spurs fans must be worried too, loosing to Boro - Berbatov likely to be off, Keane not replaced. It could be a long season for them. I know that they've some fantastic midfielders, but you wonder who'll get them the goals this season.

Really shocked by Hull winning as well, as when I saw them last season they were pretty poor. Still think they'll go down though. If Stoke couldn't beat one of the few teams who play a similar style to them, they'll be in trouble when they face up to the attacking pass and move of other premiership sides. They'll be down too.

Just wondering what the villa fans think of the back four that they will be lining up with this season - Compared to ours.

Friedel Robinson

Young Simpson

Cuellar Nelsen

Laursen Samba

Shorey Warnock

Seems a fairly solid back unit on the left if they can gel together.

Think as long as nelsen and samba can reproduce good form shown previously we can be fairly solid too.

Thoughts ??

Got to say I really like the Villans back four.. they also have Bouma, Knight and Davies there so some decent backup as well.

Quite happy with our own back four as well although Ooijer at right back yesterday looked pretty good.

In comparison though Villa's back four just shade it IMO

Harry Redknapp hasn't helped himself.

Why on earth did he sign Kaboul, who has proven himself a crap player at Spurs. Truly crap.

Djimi Traore, Milan Baros, Glenn Little, Jerome Thomas.... these managers prove time and time that they are avaricious fools. Why go a sign a bunch of mediocre/ complacent/ failed/aged players to pile up in the squad.

Don't Pompey have an academy? Don't they have young players that are showing promise? Of course they have but because Redknapp has money and expectations, he can't control himself and gives himself kicks by going shopping in the market place and picking up tat.

Aaargh, it infuriates me. Wenger must find himself constantly sniggering. He has spent less than Redknapp in recent years (considerably less, I think) and his team are somewhere like 2 million lightyears ahead of Portsmouth - even with all their "astute" squad players.

Don't be totally fooled by Wenger. He goes out and spends millions on young talent. Most clubs can't afford to do what Arsenal do, even if they can, they don't have the pulling power to attract players who are quite often from major clubs around Europe. Not like Arsenal are pulling players off the streets of London and turning them into superstars.

MU seem to be in a bit of a mess, todays team looks weaker than I can remember them putting out for a long while.

Maybe the barcodes are worth couple of quid at 14-1 on betfair.

Then again.....I think I ate too much cheese....

Newcastle's team looks bad as well though. Martins up front without Viduka or Owen, and the central midfield of Butt and Guthrie looks like relegation fodder.

Deco was class - how on earth Barry and Bentley are worth £17-20m when he was about £8m. Yes age is a factor, but i think it is over-rated english hype.

It's not as simple as that. Barcelona had already announced Deco wasn't part of their plans, and he's in his 30s, didn't really put Barca in a strong bargaining position. Bentley/Barry were probably the most important players in their team.

Portsmouth- very very poor today!

Give him time. Looking good against a Portsmouth side that was all at sea doesn't prove that he'll have a great year. Obviously he's been a great player, but anyone who watched him regularly last year will know that he seemed to lose a bit. Maybe he'll fit in well and be back to his best, but I think it is equally likely at this point that he ends up struggling to get in their side. 8 million is just about right for him, Barry and Bentley were both overpriced, but younger and proven in this league.

I thought at the time Deco was a bargain at 8m..

After todays game I am scared of Chelsea, Portsmouth are not a bad side and to loose 4-0 and get trounced in every area on the pitch was remarkable.

Well my money, given the squad that Chelsea has, is on them for the title this season, even some of their reserve players who did not make the bench would fit straight into our side and almost every position on the pitch has world class cover.

On another point.. what do people think of the current ManU squad? Surely giggs and Scholes (both playing today) are getting on a little.. To me they look like they are really lacking depth in their squad.

Maybe RFW was watching Arteta not RSC?
