DeadlyDirk Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 BBC reports that Silvestre has now signed for Arsenal. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...nal/7573520.stm
T4E Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Thats a strange one, I wonder what has gone on there.
Billy Castell Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Silvestre may be an experienced squad player to add depth I guess. I'd have bought a decent defender to go into the 1st XI.
Eddie Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Well, if he doesn't think he's good enough for United, why would he be good enough for Arsenal? As soon as he's made that call it shouldn't matter where he's going. If Ferguson is right then Arsenal have wasted 750k plus probably decent wages. If Wenger is right then Arsenal have got a great deal. As he hasn't fallen out with Ferguson in public, I would say this is purely a football decision so Fergie will probably be right.
DeadlyDirk Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 It was a bit of an odd one, United don't have a great deal of strength in depth at the moment. I guess defensively is one of the areas they do have a fair bit of cover in but it leaves them short on left backs if Evra gets injured, especially if they have to use O'Shea in other areas. Ah well. Silvestre is probably looking forward to working with Wenger but at the end of the day he has probably just swapped reserved team football at Utd for reserve team football at Arsenal. He's decent at times, maybe Wenger has other plans for him? Won't be starting ahead of Clichy though and I can't see him taking the place of Toure or Gallas. Could be next in line I guess though, Senderos is all over the shop at times, Djourou is still a bit unproven in the premiership for me and whenever they've played Song there he spends more time up front.

Agree with all of that - I'm just thinking back to the Heinze/Liverpool situation. Fergie didn't want him either, but he still wouldn't let Liverpool give them £7m for him.
Billy Castell Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Given that the price is often quoted as £6-8m, I'd be surprised. I'm also surprised people may pay that much.
thenodrog Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Anton Ferdinand to Fulham? You're gonna have more players than fans soon ffan.
roverich Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I'm disappointed we weren't at all interested in Cisse after he completed his loan move to Sunderland, think he would be a good replacement if Benni were to leave. On the other hand with Sunderland landing Cisse, does this mean they no longer want Benni and he's staying? Probably I guess. Still waiting for us to sign Joaquin
Majiball Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Shrewd move by Harry: Portsmouth close in on? Berbatov signs United Signing I take it he has Inces old agent!!
LeChuck Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Shrewd move by Harry: Portsmouth close in on? I'd hardly call that shrewd, they already have Distin, Hreidarsson and Djimi Traoré, Lauren can fill in there if needed as well. Seeing as they have no right sided midfielders (didn't Glen Johnson play there on the opening day?) then it seems a complete waste time signing Jerome Thomas permanently to free up that space for a loan. I thought they'd done that to pave the way for Shaun Wright-Phillips to go there on loan, so the fact that it's another left back works well for us.
Rathbone Market Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Anton Ferdinand to Fulham? Not sure about that as he has very high opinions about his own ability and who he should be playing for. Doesn't particularly want to re-locate up North though so maybe it isn't such a bad shout after all.

I say shrewd because I rate him he looks a good prospect and he has pace to burn. Didn't know Johnson played right wing for them, who played there last year?

Didn't know Johnson played right wing for them, who played there last year? Excellent prospect certainly, but I doubt they'll get to keep him beyond this year. They played more of a 4-3-3 last year, Utaka was usually on the right, I think Baros was out there sometimes as well.
Hughesy Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Thiago has told Everton he isnt interested in joining them!! Ouch they have had a terrible summer
ffan Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 You're gonna have more players than fans soon ffan. 19 players went all summer.
philipl Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Just to dampen the hubris of the Villa supporters, Wenger came straight out and said he is monitoring Gareth Barry yesterday. Shevchenko's move to AC Milan is frozen- no doubted Galliano did not fancy a repeat of the soaking the fans gave him if he sells Kaka. Chelsea looking at spending £32m on Robinho. Bolton in for Bullard seems to be confirmed.
Billy Castell Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Odd one this: Crap young defender to leave England to replace pension age good defender in Italy?
Eddie Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 An agent on holiday in august? Who are his clients?
Majiball Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 This is one player I would love to see in the prem: Benzema If Berbatov proves to difficult maybe United will shift there focus.
Grabbi Graeme Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Odd one this: Crap young defender to leave England to replace pension age good defender in Italy? SSN also reporting that Newcastle are also interested in Senderos although if AC Milan are interested then it's no contest really. Also SSN reported that Silvestre who joined Arsenal yesterday, had talks with Sunderland and was having a medical with Man City when the call came from Arsenal. Poor Sparky, nothing going right for him
rog of the rovers Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Vincent Kompany signs for City Fabio Paim signs for Chelsea Have Big Phil and Sparky been playing Championship Manager 2003/04???
