philipl Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 But for the humiliation at Birmingham.... Group C is an absolute belter.

T4E Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Pompey in the San Siro? Crazy. Looks like a good tournament, plenty of depth.
CrazyIvan Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I heard all the comments about Ince and his 'you know's and I've just watch Craig Bellamy on Sky being interviewed. There was a constant stream of 'erm's and 'you know's all the way through. It's not just Ince in that situation. (Ince was much better on BBC on Saturday morning btw!)
Al Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 It will be interesting to see if Sepp Blatter's intervention will give cause for concern amongst prospective buyers of football clubs. With all the other uncertainty swilling around, I doubt anybody is going to be buying football clubs at the prices the sellers hope for. There are going to be too many better bargains of all sorts lying around. I always knew that if Blatter kept talking for long enough he would eventually say something sensible.

But look who was doing the interview and how it was conducted. Almost like a chat with a mate, which a camera just happened to be filming. It's when he's pinned down to an interview with the interviewer and camera close up that his nerves show. When he relaxes he's perfectly competent.

It's when he's pinned down to an interview with the interviewer and camera close up that his nerves show. When he relaxes he's perfectly competent. Yeah, that was sort of meant to be my point . Being in front of the camera in a pressure situation is not easy for the professionals who do it day in day out (it's funny when they get it wrong though...) and for those who are not used to being in that situation it's much more difficult. Watching Bellamy do it today was as painful as watching Inces first few interviews. He's getting better and that must be down to doing it over and over again. We were relatively spoiled with Hughes and Souness in that they had been giving interviews in front of camera for a long time with Souness working in the media on a regular basis.
gumboots Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Anyone hear Scudamore spouting about his beloved 39th game again last night? Looked for the proper thread but couldn't find it. He seemed to be saying that there were loads of different ways it could be done but yet again suggested it was bound to happen because of the need to be seen by the global supporters!
rover6 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 The PL has been given a timely boost by this foreign rich dudes. Had they not turned up, I think that "brand" gimmick proposals would be very, very serious right now. I.e 39th game and/or Celtic/Rangers joining. These things will eventually happen. The insatiable need for money will take us to that stage - maybe when domestic interest is waning under the ponderous weight of over-commercialisation of the game. I don't know about other people, but I'm really looking at football with a more critical eye these days. Half the "superstars" that the media drool over aren't that great - are they? It's just branding. I mean, is Wayne Rooney a 'great'. He just strikes me as a decent player with strong self-belief. He's not someone who would properly excite me as a football fan. In fact, the older and supposedly better he gets, he grows more functional. Where's the youngster who was taunting defenders with his hands on his hips or striking 30 yard spectaculars in the last minute of a game? Now, he's quite simply functional.
1864roverite Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Mark Hughes and Eddie Nezwiekci are reportedly FURIOUS with Rovers and the Land Banton who has signed for Rovers. It would appear that BOTH of them have been actively involved in the moves to sign him and have both personally paid visits to his family. Having offered the holy grail of youth team football at City where they have an excellent reputation over the years it now appears that the Youngster and his family opted or Rovers as seeing them in a far better position to offer a progressive footballing career !! Hughes is saddened by Rovers apparent hijacking of the deal although it has been suggested that the reputation of some of his youth team set up are the reasons why he failed to accept a City deal !! Further update re the lad Eccleston from Liverpool is that there are still ongoing negotiations on all sides for him to join Rovers. Picked up the infom from the LFA today and a quality source from none other than PNE !!

Hughesy Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Good I hope it has really annoyed them. Muppets! Banton is a rover, banton is a rover na na na na na.
1864roverite Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 They thought it was a nailed on thing for them to take him to City and did the old personal touch. However, Rovers have gazumped them for want of a better word.
Blue n White Rover Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 They thought it was a nailed on thing for them to take him to City and did the old personal touch. However, Rovers have gazumped them for want of a better word. Knowing our luck he'll turn out to be another Paul Gallacher. Anyway, good luck to the guy, won't see him for another few years. Interesting to see the Chelsea central defender I can't remember his name, begins with M, plays for England U21's wants out to progress his career. Would he be an ideal replacement in the future for the Admiral?
BuckyRover Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Mancienne. We should definitely be having a look at him (strangely I believe Ince probably already is)

However, Rovers have gazumped them for want of a better word. Delighted, serves them right for trying to improves thier new clubs profile by putting in a disingenuos bid for roque at the end of the window!!
DanLad Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 It's strange how players can be very different away from their clubs! From Yahoo Sport... "The Reds will also see Ryan Babel return to the club with an injury after the winger limped out of Holland's victory in Norway with an ankle injury after a hard tackle by Morten Gamst Pedersen." Is there a different MGP in the Norway team? Steven Reid sounds assured at CM for the Republic.* Allegedly past it and crocked at Rovers! * From previous performances, that is, apparently
Hughesy Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Yeah but he doesnt get a chance to take penalties at ewood - otherwise he would get knocked out by Jason Roberts who always wants to take and miss them!
CrazyIvan Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Not to mention Emerton! Actually, I think Bert has been brilliant this season. Not scored goals but his all round play has been excellent. Would be good to see him score more though!
dingles staying down 4ever Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Torres, robinho injured whilst on international duty whilst Owen injured and out for upto a month.
1864roverite Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Chelsea simply look awesome as a footballing side. Hope they have an off day at Ewood !!
Amo Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 1-1. Darren Bent has levelled. Tottenham having the better of the first half, despite being down to ten-men. I wonder what will be of Ramos even if Spurs fail to win this.
