Eight games in and the newly promoted clubs have already collected 34 points between them.

The way this season is shaping up, looks like the magic 40 points really will be what is needed to stay up.

Spurs now have half their defence out injured or suspended for the next three games so they are not going to get out of this in much of a rush especially considering their next fixtures are Bolton h, Arsenal a, Liverpool h, City a. Tehee.

It is already looking very nervy for Spurs and Newcastle but with those two down there and surely capable of mounting a charge up the table at some point, the likes of Fulham, Bolton and Everton must be feeling the cold beads of sweat. Rovers are only 4 points above a releagation slot with one of the worst goal differences in the Prem.

That said, huge entertainment at Stoke and both sides looked rubbish.

For those who got on my case, I simply pointed out that I think 40 points really could be the safety target this season as opposed to mid to low 30s it has been recently. I don't expect us to struggle but we are not that far from bother.

However, all we need is some bad luck- more injuries on top of what we have, get involved in a red card fest, or Boro to suddenly click next Saturday and the table will suddenly look alarming.

All credit to JFK for putting some spirit and organisation into Newcastle. Duff is steadily improving.

Hughes is five or six players short of having a Big 4 challenging outfit at City despite the acquisition of Jo and Robinho, neither of whom look anywhere near as good as Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov, van Persie, Adebayor, Eduardo (pre-injury), Drogba or Torres. Worryingly, RSC and an on-form Benni would keep them both on the bench as well.

Perfect result- keeps Newcastle deep in the mire and City behind the Rovers.

I think the interest around 25year old Zaki highlights that there are plenty of players around the world (and probably in England as well) that haven't been snapped up and can be found with the right scouts in the right places.

There was a lot of criticism of Andrews saying if he was good enough he would have been picked up before, this is not always the case, and still means a bargain can be had (which is surely better than spending vast sums of money). I think in the current climate it will pay to be thrifty (and develop youth).

I think Blackburn Rovers will do quite well, we have a board that is not scared of NOT spending money, and I think at the moment, that will do us the world of good.
