herbergeehh Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Decent reserve team tonight against Man City. ROVERS: Bunn, Marrow, Kane, Flynn, Winnard, Hodge, Judge, O'Keefe, J. Santa Cruz, Villanueva, Treacy. Villanueva behind Santa Cruz, with Treacy and Judge on each side of the midfield.. Four players with some level of excitement around them.

LeChuck Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 So Villanueva was fit yesterday but behind Fowler in the pecking order?
philipl Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 I've given up analysing the irrationality- there is no logic in the Ince regime.
John Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 I've given up analysing the irrationality- there is no logic in the Ince regime. Bit harsh Phil. Remember, Ince came in late in the summer so it has been difficult for him. Also, he has had the international breaks to deal with which have been unforgivable. In addition, he has had no money to spend on players, which he knew when taking on the job.
herbergeehh Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Still doesn't explain picking Fowler as a THIRD striker on the bench ahead of him, and I'm surprised Judge was picked ahead of him too. We'll see what happens later on though, for all we know Carlos could be feeling unwell yesterday and therefore made himself unavailable.

We hear Ince spout these excuses without you having to fight his corner.

Didn't he say he had money to spend, but didnt think he had enough time to evaluate who to buy and so wanted to wait until January after he had enough time to scout and decide... Also, i seem to remember JW saying we would bring in somebody as good as Bentley for RM, so that seems to imply we at least have a little money to spend in January...
almuncle Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 I am fairly sure I read that Carlos WAS ill and had ruled himself out but I can't remember where I read it .sorry.

It was that pillar of Premier league knowledge Ray Matthias, that said we would have to bring in someone "better than Bentley".

Phil was only saying if mr v was fit and ahead of grandad then its baffling, how can it be difficult for him he brought them both in.
herbergeehh Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Lost 1-0 to City, no mention of Villanueva on the official site after the first half hour - Treacy mentioned often though. Also, Winnard booked in the last minute for making an agricultural challenge. Good stuff, whoever wrote that Anyone there to report?
Parsonblue Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 I thought the first half was fairly even although City always looked the more dangerous of the two sides. In the second half, City got on top and looked far better and thoroughly deserved to win and, in truth, could and probably should have won by a wider margin. Carlos was again disappointing and did little to suggest that he is going to make an immediate impact on the Premiership. Keith Treacy had another poor game and seems to have completely lost his form of earlier in the season. I thought that, yet again, young Judge was our most effective outfield player. It was interesting to note that two players who have appeared in the first team - Andy Haworth and Marcus Marshall - had to make do with places on the bench. The player who really caught the eye was Vladimir Weiss of City. Here was a player of genuine pace who was a constant threat to our defence and who scored an excellent goal. On that performance he would walk into the Rovers team on the right wing. For the second week in succession the first team, reserve team and under-18 team have all lost. These really are depressing times for supporters.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 For the second week in succession the first team, reserve team and under-18 team have all lost. These really are depressing times for supporters. So Ince has succeded in one of his targets. He has got all three teams doing exactly the same.
philipl Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 When this sort of thing starts happening, it points to a total malaise running through the entire club.
PAFELL Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 When this sort of thing starts happening, it points to a total malaise running through the entire club. Unless I am mistaken, the club, at board level, seems very quiet at the moment. A lot of people have commented on here about wanting Ince out. In the let people have left comments stating the same. The boo's from supporters after the sunderland game, the article mentioning Ince in the Times. It would not surprise me if John Williams is already looking at a replacement and his staff. In the space of two weeks BFS, Curbishley and Billic have all of a sudden stated they are interested in returning to work for a club in the premiership. The sceptic in me believes it is possible that somebody, maybe rovers, has been sounding them out. But the Rovers board have made no comments whatsoever with regards to Paul Ince and the concerns of supporters etc.
rover6 Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Just to clarify, you cannot blame Ince for the failings of the U18s, and, I'd argue, for the defeats of the reserves either. (Incidentally, the reserves were doing okay results-wise until recently). The U18 youngsters coming through are poor. Having got our hands singed with German truculence, we have resigned to raiding the emerald island for most of our talent. Sadly, apart from Judge, there ain't much coming of it. (ah, yes, there's Aaron Doran too). A couple of our reserve/u18 regulars - Martin McCubbin and Conor Kavanagh (i think) have recently gone out on loan. Where? Non-league. Yup. And Martin McCubbin was awared a new contract recently for doing what exactly? Incidentally, it is very worrying that Treacy has completely fallen away. This is most peculiar. He has not, it seemed, gained any self-belief from his first team outings. Something is very wrong.

He's the same player now as he's ever been, - his performances just haven't been good enough. When you say "fallen away", is that not just down to your views, because you always push the youngsters as being good enough, as long as they're selected for the first team?
Parsonblue Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Incidentally, it is very worrying that Treacy has completely fallen away. This is most peculiar. He has not, it seemed, gained any self-belief from his first team outings. Something is very wrong. I wouldn't use the term "fallen away" with reference to Keith Treacy. I have watched him with both the Academy and Reserves and he has always been an enigma. He has shown himself to be a player with potential but one who fails to deliver more often than not. I don't think his present form has come as any great surprise to regular watchers of reserve team football.

broadsword Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 It was that pillar of Premier league knowledge Ray Matthias, that said we would have to bring in someone "better than Bentley". Also the bloke who said they couldn't stop Bentley leaving as players always want to better themselves at bigger clubs. He's got a lower leagues mindset, not surprising since he's never managed in the top flight. I don't expect to see him on "Mastermind" soon. "I'm sorry, I haven't a clue" yes, "Mastermind", no.
rover6 Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I've finished the sentance for you ... Ah, thanks Trisha
DingleBaiter Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 I wouldn't use the term "fallen away" with reference to Keith Treacy. I don't think his present form has come as any great surprise to regular watchers of reserve team football. So his pre- & early-season form, though probably closer to this potential, was a positive 'blip' and he's since reverted to form? Would you suggest the same has happened to young Judgey? Is it true that Carlos stormed off straight down to dressing room in this game? One has to wonder - without falling into the pro/anti Ince debate - what's happened to these 3 players that showed such promise and potential at the start of Ince's tenure, often being cited as a positive for Ince in showing faith in them? Is it just a function of not having the cojones to be bold enough to manage them properly, or possibly that's he's lost his bottle in them because of the present predicament? I'm aghast we've not managed to get the best out of Carlos still, and it's getting close to make-your-mind-up time. Ironic when one considers how little time he's played in his 'best' position and given he's got goals in him IMO.
philipl Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Isn't it painfully obvious that from top to bottom, we have a football management team that is totally out of its depth and needs to be replaced ASAP?
