Dunnfc Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Juventus midfielder Almiron is apparently available on loan, must be worth a dig.
brian_gallagher85 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Please tell me I'm not the only one missing what all the fuss is/was with Drenthe? The one player I'd love to see us getting, who I actually believe is within our reach and in a position we are lightweight: 49. Stephen Hunt, 27, Reading Won't win popularity contests, but the plucky Irish winger is a perpetual-motion machine who seemingly never stops running. This season he has contributed a few goals as well. Might be tempting for someone looking to provide instant dynamism to their side.

Brfcrule1 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Hi all, hope everyone had a good xmas and new year was looking at the above times link and think maybe Diego 22 from weder bremen might be worth a shotdepending on price but looking at that list the good players cost a lot of dosh which is not something we can compete onas was said before we desperately need a takeover before we can think of competeing in the transfer market for a lot of those playersalso it seems as though this Diego is very much in the mould of a Bentley/Maestro type player laters all
herbergeehh Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I'd certainly rather have Drenthe, but Hunt is okay - must be good being such an easy target and still getting positive media.
rebelmswar Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I'd certainly rather have Drenthe, but Hunt is okay - must be good being such an easy target and still getting positive media. He reminds me of a shorter quicker less mouthy Sav.
herbergeehh Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 And yes, Diego would be swell. However, we're probably about 20 million pounds short.
brian_gallagher85 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 He's also a much more talented Sav. I love the lad, he plays with his heart on his sleeve, especially when in the Green shirt and seems to be chipping in with a few important goals of late too Please Mr Hughes, sell Robbie and stick a million with it to bring in Stephen
American Rover12 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I heard from a good source that we'd be getting Kitson from Reading. That source was just a voice in my head, but I rate him pretty well and would love to see him with us. We can speculate once in a while...
G Somerset Rover Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Out of that list we'd probably take all 49 of the others (Samba being the 50th) but in reality I very much doubt that we can afford to sign one let alone a few of them. Talk of Diego and Drenthe are just pipe dreams. The only way that we would have a remote chance of getting a player off that list is if we were to sell/exchange one of our biggest assets. Going along with what Nicko is saying, the only player who fits that bill would appear to be Benni, but quite rightly I'm guessing that Hughes would only do this should we have a ready made replacement lined up.
benhben Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Someone on loan would be a decent signing. Some steel in midfield but someone who can pass (Aka not mokoena). Was thinking of Obi Mikel on loan a while ago but he seems to get more games for chelsea. Fletcher from UTD? Zokora? Surely someone is available on loan thats better than Mokoena!!

We don't seem to be lucky with loan signings. Well not since Kevin Arnott anyway - and he turned useless when we bought him.
rebelmswar Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 We don't seem to be lucky with loan signings. Well not since Kevin Arnott anyway - and he turned useless when we bought him. I thought Florent Sinama-Pongolle had his moments

I know some would disagree, but the Nonda loan was a pretty good deal for us as well. Of course, there are some who didn't turn out too well, but no need to get discouraged by that as there are examples of the opposite as well.
benhben Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I thought Baggio was a genius in his time with us
John Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Shall we change this thread to: 'Unlikely Transfer Window Targets' Probably more apt given our current financial situation.
