tcj_jones Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I doubt it, he's their club captain and a first team regular. He's also younger than Benni and a fans favourite.

gazsimm Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 thats the kind of player we should be looking for though, not some unknown player we have never heard who will just play in the reserves and not improve our 1st team
rebelmswar Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 thats the kind of player we should be looking for though, not some unknow player we have never heard who will just play in the reserves I doubt we can even get Defoe away from them now never mind Keane. I agree that is the quality we should be after but with double diget millions flying around we are down to searching for players like we are panning for gold, not at all likely but sometimes you find a nugget.
tcj_jones Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Defoe would be a far more realistic option and would be an excellent signing for the club. I still dopubt that he would move though.
Oklahoma Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 The top priority should be the midfield. Katsouranis, Maniche could be loaned by their teams. They would be great for us. And if we sell (Roberts, Savage, Mokoena, Rigters, OOijer for example) we should try to buy a young centre midfielder...

Oklahoma Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Maniche is 30 and wants to play regular football to be prepared for Euro 2008. Currently, his situation in Atletico is bad. One player that might be in trouble and also be loaned out or sold is Miguel from Valencia. It all depends on Koeman's decision. If he came on loan, it would be great.

Exiled_Rover Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I think people just have to accept that we don't have the money to improve the squad. As Bryan said, we're defying gravity, but that's the way it's got to be.
Bazzanotsogreat Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I think people just have to accept that we don't have the money to improve the squad. As Bryan said, we're defying gravity, but that's the way it's got to be. The more relevant question is why don’t we have any money to spend. Clubs with smaller turnovers and revenues are spending/have spent more than us over last 5/6 seasons. For anyone that didn’t see it we are actually bottom premiership spending over the past 5 seasons And before people spout off im not suggesting we need to give out manager 20 million a season , just a workable budget, it’s the least he can expect given that our income has gone up anywhere between 25-35%
Eddie Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I agree with you there Bazza, particularly with the increased revenue from the TV deal. I don't understand how our revenue can increase and yet we don't have even slightly more to spend. I understand that the club wants to stand on its own two feet and that our wages may have gone up slightly (although I doubt that), but the club also has to operate in the real world and understand that it has to spend in order to survive, let alone have success.
vintageadidas Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 We have hardly any money and the club runs at a loss. The Walker Trust has also stopped the £3m a year due to the new television funding and there are many factors to why we have no money. The wage bill has shot up to nearly £37m and our turnover is only circa £44m a year. We have a £9m loan and our attendances are also a major factor into a poor spending power. Luckily the players we buy are usually paid in instalments over 3, 4 or 5 years. I personally think the TV money will help cover us for the next few years. An example (rough estimates also) is Everton; at £35 a ticket they USUALLY get 34,000 paying fans - over 19 games a premiership season that is £23m. Rovers charge mainly £15, even though attendances are up we still only averaged 21,000 last year and the year before. If we take our USUAL gate of around 22,000 (for this season) and our ticket price over 19 games we receive just £6m – a massive gulf.
brian_gallagher85 Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 That's the main factor VA. However how much have Bolton spent in the last few years?

Again you are missing the point: Are revenue has just shot dramatically, at a guess I would turnover for this years accounts will be circa 55 million. The new TV deal (yes I know I keep on about it) means a mid-table club will receive around 40 million a season in TV money alone, let alone money from cups (not much this year then). This in comparison to last year figures, which everyone keeps harping on about where mid-table clubs would receive 24-28 million in TV revenue. There is an increase of anywhere between 12-15 million, with even bigger rises in TV money on the horizon. Why does everyone think the current spate of foreign ownership has come about in the last 18 mints, the love of the game? The wage bill and turnover are figures that do not take not account the new TV deal. That's the main factor VA. However how much have Bolton spent in the last few years? More than us BTW
LeChuck Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Are revenue has just shot dramatically, A financial term I don't know about?
Bazzanotsogreat Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 A financial term I don't know about? No just spelling smartarse
Bazzanotsogreat Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Which word? Are you the self-appointed spelling & grammar chief? It’s a football website not an academic forum, I apologise for my profligacy’s sir Here are my corrections Our revenue has just shot-up dramatically
LeChuck Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I'm not really that bothered by correct grammar etc. but I really know what that sentence was meant to be. If something is 'shot' then isn't it considered to be ruined, or something along those lines? Also I didn't realise 'are' was 'our', that's not really a spelling or grammar mistake, it's an entirely different word. Anyway, I understand what you mean now...the reason I asked was because I didn't believe our finances were ruined, but because I couldn't make much sense of the sentence I thought I'd check first before arguing against it.

Bazza, with regards the extra TV money, has it been paid 'up front' or do we get it at the end of the season? Not a trick question, I don't know.

I would imagine in instalments? , with any pre-season budgets having to factor in additional revenue for the year.
herbergeehh Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Cissè was once a brilliant prospect, but his transfer to Liverpool did him a lot of harm. Houllier's tactics was awful, they were a defensive side and didn't really give him much of a chance with proper support. I think he can become a good striker again in a proper club, he's got awesome physical ability and finishing has a lot to do with self esteem. 7,5 million sounds ridiculous though, how good has he been for Marseille? I do not doubt he is a player Sparky might be interested in, but not at that price obviously..

I don't think Hughes will throw a huge amount at a striker I think he will sprinkle the majority of the cash at midfield.
emerton Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 cisse has been doing quite well in france. i think hes averaging just under 1 goal every second game. he has pace to burn and would be a good option if we could afford him.
