tcj_jones Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Newcastle Enquire into Diarra's Availability If Newcastle are in, then we have to make an offer. He looks a far better player than Sidwell and a far better prospect than Huddlestone. That said, Newcastle will probably be able to offer wages that we cannot afford. The guy only wants first team football and hopefully he will show some ambition and sign for us.

1864roverite Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I'm a big fan of French football, but the idea of spending £7.5 million on a guy that has only scored two goals all season is ludicrous. Cisse was a big flop with Liverpool and his performances for Marseilles don't suggest that much has changed. For £7.5 million you could be making bids for people like Alexander Frei, Mladan Petric, Mario Gomes, Vagner Love, Javier Saviola, Jermane Defoe or Alexander Kerzakhov. If Hughes is willing to spend this sort of money on Cisse, then surely he must realise that are better options out there. ITS PAPER SPECULATION. There is not a way in the world that we would pay 7.5m for Cisse. He aint worth it, he aint done anything to warrant such a speculative fee and if he cant hack it in Frog football what makes anyine think he can go on and hack it back in the Premiership ?
Ronin Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Didn't even think we'd have £7m to play with anyway, especially to blow it all on one player!
joey_big_nose Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I can see us going for Cisse. a) Clearly available- itself a rarity in January. Sparky did desperately want Anelka, Cisse is a similar sort of player. c) Could be cheap compared to most of similar pedigree. d) Sort of player with obvious talent which has vanished in recent seasons. Sparky will rightly feel after Bellamy, Roque and McCarthy that he can bring back the form in quality players who have declined. I would be willing to stake a tenner on us putting a bid in, but it being much nearer 4m than 8m.
LeChuck Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Sparky did desperately want Anelka Hmm...that comment is based on what?
brian_gallagher85 Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 You still putting that cash on? http://www.om.net/fr/Saison/101002/Infos/3..._ne_partira_pas
joey_big_nose Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 You still putting that cash on? http://www.om.net/fr/Saison/101002/Infos/3..._ne_partira_pas I think its just a screen. I think they want to move him on. For Le Chuck: I am pretty sure nicko's info about us wanting Anelka was accurate. Its all speculation but I just have a feeling Cisse will tick all the boxes for Hughes- pacy, proven high quality, probably good value, perhaps willing to move to a club like Blackburn (even if his career was nearly ended at Ewood). Whether we will actually get him is another thing. Sort of depends whether Bolton or Man City come in and put in bids larger than we want to pay or if Marseille are only looking to sell for loads of cash. He also might not be so keen to move out of a club where he has a decent chance of CL football every year to one where he has very little. Its a hunch.
RoyRover Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Cisse is the type of player who looks the part and seems to have all the attributes to be a top player, pace, power, strength, flamboyant hair style, wears white boots and was a lethal goal scorer for Auxerre, but in truth he has never lived up to his potential. Mutton dressed as lamb.
rebelmswar Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 The lad we are after is the number 17. On this one he is the step over before the pass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUuuFGidcss Nice first goal
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I don't want Cisse, he's a show pony, we've had enough of those over the years. I'm hoping City get lucky this time.
AggyBlue Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I don't want Cisse, he's a show pony, we've had enough of those over the years. I'm hoping City get lucky this time. Agree 100%. He's made a mint out of fancy hair do's.

BRFC1995 Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Did'nt cisse's scouse missus have the cops on him before he quit liverpool? Got to be wary of anyone that gets bad press outside the sport section, plus he stank worse than Kuyt at liverpool and made Baros look good! Don't believe this rumour in the slightest! Can only see us bringing people that are (a) foriegn ( no older than 30 © never tried and failed in prem before. Way too many other clubs would be in for sidwell and he earns silly money, Hughes ain't afraid to buy players from any league belgium, german,american,portugese,swiss,.................... fully expect a gem to be unearthed from lichtenstein by Feb 1st!
herbergeehh Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Why can't we buy players that have tried and failed in the Premiership before? Hughes is no Houllier.
RoyRover Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 BBC gossip page linking us with a move for Lassana Diarra and Hasan Sas. Apparently Arsenal have put a £6 million price tag on him, but we always see about a loan move that could become something permanet. As for Sas, I would have said yes to him after the 2002 World Cup, but now it seems like he has fallen off the radar a bit. Anyone heard anything about him since then? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/g...ers/7178302.stm

I wouldn't mind if we managed to sign him. Young, English, highly rated and considering that he's English, pretty cheap if it's £1m. Is a right back (which is what we need) and can also slot in up front if we need an emergency striker.
bellamy11 Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Halford is apparently a diabolical defender. He signed for Reading for about £3.5m and never played. They sold him less than a year later to Sunderland, where he has been dropped. I don't think he's the answer - not for a million pounds when we have priorities more pressing than a reserve right-back.
Eddie Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I wouldn't take Diara on loan. The guy is a good player, if we take him on loan he will probably do well and then we will never be able to sign him. Of course if we can't find anyone else then he will do well until the summer, but I'd much rather we just try and sign him outright right now. I just can't see it happening.
Oklahoma Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 One name: Katsouranis! Benfica want 10 million € for him but I doubt anyone will pay that. Rovers getting him on loan would be good for all involved. He would be great for our midfield.

We are a player like Diarra away from being a top half team that can more than cope with the moneybags of Villa, Man City, Spurs and Everton. Okay, Spurs and Everton don't have a super-rich backer but they do throw money around prodigiously. However, I just cannot see him signing for us. However, that shouldn't stop us looking at the French Ligue 1 for someone of Diarra's mould. France, with their African players, seem to produce an abundance of technically gifted midfield players. EDIT: Just read that Tranmere and another club have had bids accepted for Rovers reserve left back, Andy Taylor. He was pulled from Tranmere's game due to the bid from the unnamed club and now Ronnie Moore has confirmed that Tranmere have had a bid accepted. Unnamed club is said to be Blackpool.

Not another youngster that lot's of people wanted in our first team, being released? There are a lot of lower league teams very grateful for the money and time our club has devoted to the youngsters.
